Our dinner was horrible and the price was outrageous. The only thing that was decent was the deserts. I will never go back.

We dine at The Prune once each summer, when we make our annual visit to the Stratford Festival, and always have a fine experience. The (Old) Prune has been a longstanding favorite when visiting Stratford. This past weekend we found the service and food up to its typical high standard. Hidden Gem

The Prune of Stratford is one of those 'hidden gems'. Set a block from the main drag, but easily walked to from town. Excellent choice of menu and selection of wine and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Food is served 'nouvelle cuisine' - meaning just the right amount and not piled high on your plate. The Prune is certainly among the best restaurants in Stratford, Ontario. As one would imagine they cater to the theater crowd but even a small pre-theater meal will be outstanding. Great pre-theatre restaurant

My wife and I had a great three-course prix fixe dinner at Prune. Our server was attentive and our courses arrived at regular, unhurried intervals. The food was outstanding and we will return when we are in Stratford next.

The Prune was VG, not excellent

Although the atmosphere at the Prune was lovely and the service perfect, the meal was not without its disappointments. We were ready for the portions to be modest/small, as is customary at some of the finer restaurants. The food was delicious. Without a doubt the Cod was cooked to perfection with a Thai flavor to it. And the sweet pea soup had a wonderful, light flavor to it. Great Evening Eating

Once again a great meal at a comfortable table with a perfectly trained and informed staff. The seared tuna was done the way it needed to be. The wine list provided the necessary choices. Dessert and tea ended the meal with perfection.

Great for Special Occasion

We went before the evening show. The food was very good. The service was attentive. We selected a bottle of lower priced wine and were pleased with our selection. Although pricey, I would say it was a reasonable value for for what we paid. I would recommend the place for a special occasion or as part of a romantic evening.

Interesting Menu

One of the things that we enjoy most about going out for dinner is having choices on the menu of items we wouldn't or couldn't prepare ourselves. The dessert we had from this menu was not only delicious, it sparked our interest and was totally different from what we ever could have imagined. It was a real treat to go to this restaurant!

Too much.....

While the ambience and service at The Prune were excellent, the kitchen tries too hard to be gastronomically cutting-edge.
If a chef wants to do molecular, please be easy on the foam. Please cook the lobster completely. And please, please stay away from parsnip ice cream and rhubarb jelly. That dessert dish was tortured out of all resemblance to its original elements.

Would not recommend

Staff was not engaged and bordered on snobby when it came to ordering our meal. We came to celebrate a special occasion and it felt as though the staff could've cared less. Food was well prepared, but uninspired. Ambience was in line with a "modern" retirement home.

This was a wonderful find. We were in Stratford for an evening show. We wanted dinner beforehand. Decided to try The Prune. We were not disappointed. High rates on all counts. Portions were perfect. For the higher price point the food was good but the service wasn't. Staff was fine but the entee didn't show up for over an hour after ordering. Forced to jam dinner, desert & coffee into 20 minutes to make theater on time.

We have spent many weekends in Stratford and somehow missed this restaurant!!! From the minute we entered the restaurant we knew we would experience a culinary delight. A find in small town Ontario

The service was attentive and impeccable. The flavours were fresh and unusual and I had a great meal. The use of Miso to enhance the black cod was inspired and my hanger steak was cooked to perfection and the vegetables served with it perfect. We found no fault and had a fantastic meal.

We selected the Prune for a pre-theater anniversary dinner. We were greeted at the door warmly. From appetizer through dessert was a special dining experience. The plated presentation was exquisite! Our server "James" was excellent. Flavors and ambiance will not disappoint!!
