Our dinner was horrible and the price was outrageous. The only thing that was decent was the deserts. I will never go back.
From start to finish this was a wonderful experience. All four of us were wondering why we had not tried the Prune before. Every appetizer(soup, pate, smoked salmon) was a happy dance in the mouth. Every main was delicious.
Service was beyond amazing--friendly, attentive (but not too attentive) mannerly, and full of wine paring expertise. The restaurant was very busy, so would suggest...

We dine at The Prune once each summer, when we make our annual visit to the Stratford Festival, and always have a fine experience. This year we began with smoked salmon with deviled quail eggs and wonderful velvety chicken liver mousse, after the amuse bouche. I had delicious black cod in an Asian preparation and my wife enjoyed a lovely pieced of salmon, complemented by glasses of Malbec.... more
The (Old) Prune has been a longstanding favorite when visiting Stratford. This past weekend we found the service and food up to its typical high standard. The menu has changed a bit and you now have a choice of a mid-dinner course. Our table had the cod, chicken and baked pepper (vegetarian) entrees and all were exceptional. Try the chicken-liver mousse as an appetizer and don't miss the... more
Excellent food and service. Menu interesting and varied. Will definitely be back but would request Garden Room table as front room tables were very close together.
The Prune of Stratford is one of those 'hidden gems'. Set a block from the main drag, but easily walked to from town. Excellent choice of menu and selection of wine and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Food is served 'nouvelle cuisine' - meaning just the right amount and not piled high on your plate. A high recommendation.
We dined at the Prune for the first time to celebrate our 21st anniversary. This was absolutely the best dining experience we have ever had. Every course (4) was culinary perfection. The wine selection is unique and outstanding. The food was matched by the incredible service. I had requested a quiet table to celebrate our anniversary and we were accommodated. What's more several of the staff... more
We try to get to the Prune. Every time we visit Stratford. We think it is the best restaurant in the area with great food, great ambience and an attentive and knowledgable staff.
Food was creative -- very good tasting and well-presented. The service wasn't so great. Our waiter took quite awhile to come to our table and after our order was taken he passed by once to ask how everything was but we never saw him again until we walked out--he was at the front desk and just say "bye guys" to my husband and I. The restaurant has a lot of young people supporting the... more
Great place for a special occasion or pre Theatre. Food was excellent- nicely presented. The buns to die for. Our server (Alex) was the best, professional, friendly - he was very knowledgeable about the food - able to answer all questions. In fact his description of the black cod made it sound so good that I decided to have that instead of what I had chosen, it was cooked to perfection and it... more
The Prune is certainly among the best restaurants in Stratford, Ontario. As one would imagine they cater to the theater crowd but even a small pre-theater meal will be outstanding. Great food, great presentation, innovative and creative. Eat there when you have the time to fully enjoy the food and service.
We chose the Prune for a family celebration and the night couldn't have been better, from the beverage selection, to the menu choices and of course the outstanding service, we all felt perfectly attended to and loved the food immensely. Thanks to all at the Prune
My boyfriend and I visited the Prune in Stratford for a romantic evening out. The Prune was outstanding. Romantic setting , professional service and the food was fit for a king. We loved this experience and will be back . A great place for friends to have a lovely time and a great place for lovers to find that sparkle.
Lovely restaurant , creative dishes ! Appreciated the choice for 2, 3 or 4 courses for prix fixe selection
This was our best dining experience at The Prune in our decades of visiting this wonderful restaurant. The food, our waiter, the ambience, the wine advice, all were top-notch. In fact, when asking about wine, our waiter/sommelier told us that there was a wine not on the wine list that would be perfect for what we ordered, and it indeed was. It was also the last bottle they had of this... more
My wife and I had a great three-course prix fixe dinner at Prune. Our server was attentive and our courses arrived at regular, unhurried intervals. The food was outstanding and we will return when we are in Stratford next.
Although the atmosphere at the Prune was lovely and the service perfect, the meal was not without its disappointments. We were ready for the portions to be modest/small, as is customary at some of the finer restaurants. But the rolls were just a step above hamburger bun quality- white puffs, little texture or taste, no butter. Two of us had risotto which we found chewy, not creamy, like a scoop... more
We go once a year to Stratford to enjoy the Theater Festival. You can be sure that Prunes will be part of our regular itinerary. Amazing food, ambiance, décor. All the ingredients were there to ensure an amazing moment. Service from Alex was exceptional. He has this sense of finding how the guests like to be served and customizes accordingly.Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! to the team. Way to go! We'll be... more
The attention to food is fabulous at the Prune, The use of local foodstuffs is great. The meal overall first rate.
Lots of really great things on the menu, all carefully planned, beautifully presented, and delicious. I had the beet salad, risotto, the salmon entree, and chocolate bread pudding. My dinner companions had the soup, hangar steak and potatoes, chicken and chard, strawberry dessert, and apple cake dessert. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We had dinner after a matinee performance. It was a really... more
The food was delicious. Without a doubt the Cod was cooked to perfection with a Thai flavor to it. And the sweet pea soup had a wonderful, light flavor to it. The risotto was a let down, rather bland (there is no salt or pepper on the table) and way to many peas in it. If there are only 2 of you, beware of where they seat you. It's an old house made into a restaurant. Very cozy and eclectic in... more
We went to The Prune to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I noted this in our reservation with Open Table, and all of the serving staff congratulated us. Simply put, the food was divine and the service exemplary.
A favorite Stratford restaurant. Excellent service; great staff. Our party of 4 enjoyed the full meal with wine. Great attention to detail; answered all questions about the menu items with specific information. Support staff was excellent making sure our dining experience was excellent. A definite return visit will be planned. We also went to the new restaurant, The Bruce. The Prune is... more
We had an delightful dining experience and will definitely return.
The Prune is a favourite spot of ours in Stratford. Every time we come to Stratford we enjoy a delicious meal here. We can count on attentive service and are never disappointed with the food.
Once again a great meal at a comfortable table with a perfectly trained and informed staff. The seared tuna was done the way it needed to be. The wine list provided the necessary choices. Dessert and tea ended the meal with perfection.
We started with a glass of sparkling wine to celebrate Canada Day. Appetizers were an heirloom beet salad, house cured salmon and their take on oysters Rockefeller which featured Caribou oysters with a miso-flavoured crumb on top that was lightly broiled (delicious). Two of us had the roast chicken with foraged mushrooms (morels - yum) and the others enjoyed the stuffed poblano pepper entree... more
We went before the evening show. The food was very good. The service was attentive. We selected a bottle of lower priced wine and were pleased with our selection. Although pricey, I would say it was a reasonable value for for what we paid. I would recommend the place for a special occasion or as part of a romantic evening.
One of the things that we enjoy most about going out for dinner is having choices on the menu of items we wouldn't or couldn't prepare ourselves. The dessert we had from this menu was not only delicious, it sparked our interest and was totally different from what we ever could have imagined. It was a real treat to go to this restaurant!
incredible foods and fantastic service I recommend this to everyone
This was a lovely place to celebrate a special birthday. The food was I great and the service was excellent.
We had been to The Prune in the past and found the service and food not the best. This time we had the best service and amazing food. So far the best dinner in Stratford
While the ambience and service at The Prune were excellent, the kitchen tries too hard to be gastronomically cutting-edge.
If a chef wants to do molecular, please be easy on the foam. Please cook the lobster completely. And please, please stay away from parsnip ice cream and rhubarb jelly. That dessert dish was tortured out of all resemblance to its original elements.
The pea and asparagus soup...

Staff was not engaged and bordered on snobby when it came to ordering our meal. We came to celebrate a special occasion and it felt as though the staff could've cared less. Food was well prepared, but uninspired. Ambience was in line with a "modern" retirement home.
This was a wonderful find. We were in Stratford for an evening show. We wanted dinner beforehand. Decided to try The Prune. We were not disappointed. High rates on all counts. Portions were perfect. Food excellent. The service impressive. Very nice atmosphere. Everything was what a fine dining experience should be.
dinner was excellent in spite of a; lost reservation and b; a woman alone doesn't get the same service. All in all I hope to return
For the higher price point the food was good but the service wasn't. Staff was fine but the entee didn't show up for over an hour after ordering. Forced to jam dinner, desert & coffee into 20 minutes to make theater on time.
The Prune has always been a very good restaurant but they have upped their game so that it is much better with a new menu and wine list that is even more imaginative and of high quality. All four of us enjoyed dinner immensely and agreed it was the best restaurant in Stratford. The presence of the Chef in the dining room was a very nice touch and always a treat to see the genius behind the... more
I cannot express how incredible the evening was. It was for a graduation dinner and it was made very memorable by the awesome staff and wonderful food. The little extras, appetizers and desert offering, were just the icing on the cake. My guests were impressed!! The interesting coincidence was the honoree of this dinner had just graduated from Fanshawe where she was a student of hospitality... more
We have spent many weekends in Stratford and somehow missed this restaurant!!! From the minute we entered the restaurant we knew we would experience a culinary delight. The food was spectacular with a mix of ingredients which fused together perfectly. The ambience was great and the service impeccable. A special thank you to Jen who's service was faultless. We will be back.
We had a wonderful dinner at The Prune. The food was excellent and the service couldn't have been better.. We would highly recommend it.
Had dinner there on five special occasions over several years.
I have not been disappointed jet . (picky eater)
Good price to value Prix fixe menu with appreciated 2-3-4 course option with few add-ons. Service was a balance of friendliness, attentiveness and yet non-intrusive. Began with a nice bon mot, refreshing, slightly sip of spicy cucumber soup. I had their signature liver pate with cognac prunes. My wife loved her Terrine of smoked quail & foie gras. Shared a perfectly cooked angus rib steak,... more
The Prune is without a doubt the very best place to dine in Stratford. We eat there at every visit to the Festival, and have never been disappointed. The food, the ambience, and the service are all world class. Can't wait for our next visit!
Another delicious dinner. Excellent service. Looking forward to 2015, for my next visit. Wish you were in Toronto.

The service was attentive and impeccable. The flavours were fresh and unusual and I had a great meal. The use of Miso to enhance the black cod was inspired and my hanger steak was cooked to perfection and the vegetables served with it perfect. We found no fault and had a fantastic meal.
We selected the Prune for a pre-theater anniversary dinner. We were greeted at the door warmly. From appetizer through dessert was a special dining experience. The plated presentation was exquisite! Our server "James" was excellent. Flavors and ambiance will not disappoint!!
Dear Bryan, Joel and Staff, when driving home on Saturday night after a wonderful evening at The Prune - Lars and I both agreed it reminded us of the movie Babette's Feast. It reminded us also that 20 years ago our daughter was with us for dinner and how we loved everything about The Prune especially the food. And this night, May 24/14, we were with our daughter and had the same experience.... more
There've been changes. Food remains outstanding, although the eggplant with my tuna dish was perhaps bland and not particularly interesting. My risotto starter and very creative ice cream dessert were delightful. Service is, as ever, attentive, knowledgeable, gracious, and interested. The revamped basic decor is now perhaps a bit sere/bland while the hung art is 'nice.' (Not a Good Thing.)... more
