Always a Treat

This review comes after my 6th visit to this fine Japanese restaurant. The Tuna Tartare was excellent as was the Volcano Sushi Roll. The taste and presentation suggests a high end restaurant yet the prices are affordable. The restaurant charges for the tea but the pot is refilled. All-in-all, this isa high recommendation. Excellent Japanese food!

I checked this place out after work. High quality Japanese food beautifully presented. The assorted sashimi was fresh and well presented. Good Group Lunch

Attentive and reliable service makes this a pleasant dine-in location for friends and coworkers. Food arrived quickly which is a must for work lunches and was very fresh and flavourful. Now on my radar for reliable places to eat and bring others.

Really nice Japanese food

Reservation was poorly treated

I booked this reservation very much in advance. Was called 15 minutes before I arrived, asking if we could leave within 2 hours to make room for another reservation. The food took so long to come, that some of my guests had to cancel their orders. I didn't even get to eat dinner, just had a pitcher of beer before we had to leave

Went to this restaurant at the recommendation of the bellman from our hotel. Excellent service. Had the wild salmon teriyaki - so good and the godfather roll. Casual atmosphere with good food.

Real, authentic Japanese food

Even though we weren't feeling our best (jetlag day 2), we had a good time at Shuraku. We had a friendly waiter, Jeff, who helped us to pick out some nice sushi and nigiri. We will def return here in July.

Hank Shuraku

We went for a late dinner and were greeted immediately. The waiter was excellent and made some recommendations for both food and drinks based on a brief discussion with us.
He didn't let us down, as the food was soooo fresh and tasty with great flavors and the selection of drinks complimented our meal perfectly.

Food was good as always, and fairly quick to respond considering the lunch rush.

Wonderful find. There are few restaurants on granville and this one fits the bill nicely. Service was quick and we were able to have a leisurely meal before heading to the orpheum almost across the street. The food was wonderful and although we didn't try the saki the list was impressive.

I always order the stone curry bowl with either pork cutlet or chicken karage, which is usually good. Bad Sashimi made us sick

We shared some tuna and salmon sashimi at this restaurant today and both of us were sick immediately after. While the servers were friendly, poorly handled raw fish is inexcusable. AVOID

Tried Shuraku without any knowledge of it. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. The ambience wasn't to the same level - needed dimmer lighting and more professional serving staff. A great meal though and would recommend to any sushi lover.

The staff was so accommodating and found some wonderful GF/Vegan options for us - YUM! I highly recommend getting the tofu and avocado salad then paying an extra dollar to sub more ago for the tofu ;)

Pleasant

Went there for the first time due to a recommendation with my dinner companion. Very pleasant atmosphere and service, though the service was a little slow in the beginning. The food is good and reasonable priced, I'd personally would give it 4 out of 5 stars and would come back.

Very Helpful Staff

We had never eaten sushi before and sought advice from the concierge at our hotel. He recommended this place. It's lively, full of Japanese, and clearly authentic. We went here on Xmas day because it was one of the few places that were open (we were visiting from away and love sushi, so it was perfect). The spicy tuna was amazing. The server was hilarious and made us feel very welcome. I would definitely go back.

Superb sashimi

For good down home food on Granville, I suggest dining at Shurake Sake Bar & Bistro. The service is great with the authentic Japanese customs and courtesies.
Go with miso soup, wild mushroom salad, kogomi, avocado rolls, mushroom ohitash, live spot prawns, kuro macha, genmaicha, ebi gyoza, tuna isobe ago and salmon teryaki - all balance between veggies and proteins.

Expected better

Tried Shuraku for lunch a few times mostly because a friend and colleague really likes this place. I think the location is great and the restaurant is nicely decorated, unfortunately, the food is kind of average and not great. I'm sure that I'll be back but not because I pick the place, hppefully I'll be more impressed next time.

The food was wonderful. Our only complaint is that we ordered several dishes assuming they would bring them over a period of time. Everything came almost at once. I don't know if this is usual in this type of restaurant. I would suggest ordering only a dish or so at a time to avoid this.

It looks unassuming from the outside. Inside: great food, friendly and efficient service, a comfortable, unpretentious setting. Three of us tried a wide selection of dishes.
