Nothing high tech about this ecology centre. Just sound basic exhibits with some interesting info about the local flora and fauna.
We ended up here because the price of Capilano was extortionate.
There were not nearly so many people. A relaxing and pleasant hike with the bridge attraction an obvious asset. Also it was free and still enjoyable.
The food was not anything special and not exactly cheap. Seems to be the going theme everywhere these days!
If you are a local or visitor and it's raining, this is a good place to spend an hour or more. Especially fun for little kids and possibly up to age of 12. Educational
If you're planning on going to the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge, then take a few extra minutes and visit the Ecology Centre, it's only a few steps away. It's very informative about the area
Visiting the Ecology Centre at Lynn Canyon gave us all the information required when visiting Lynn Canyon. Displays are excellent, well worth spending time here.
We paid the centre a visit after we had went for a walk round the suspension bridge and the twin falls. Great prices in here, very informative with lots of displays to let you know what is going on. Three of my children came into the centre and they all bought presents to bring back for their friends. Great selection... more
It was small but had many displays of educational information about the eco system and wildlife. My 2 year old daughter enjoyed the animals in displays and the sounds of each animal did. They have gift shop where travelers can purchase from postcards to stuffed animals to other Canadian souvenirs. We really enjoyed it.
Have been to tons of State and Federal Parks all over the USA and this Centre is just mediocre, more of a typical gift shop than informative centre.. They have stuff like a ranger to speak to and I think a film, but the room with explanation was pretty sparse....we literally walked in and then out! But had a great... more
Its great to find information on the ecology and environmental practices of places we visit. This center is small but offers a lot of interesting facts and it is clear they are devoted to environmental issues.
A small charge but worth the visit. Lots of great explanations of things in the area. There are even interactive consoles for kids and adults. Along with the park it is well worthy the time to go. Easy to get to anywhere from North Vancouver.
If you find this helpful please mark it so.
After touring through the gorgeous Lynn Canyon park (which includes a wobbly suspension bridge over a 200 foot deep chasm and many waterfalls) check out the ecology centre to find out more about living things on the North Shore. They've got dioramas, stuffed animals, and large displays about our local ecology. Entrance is by donation, so bring cash.
For a freebie, this is well worth the time to stop in and visit. My older daughter had a great time looking through everything and it was a good prep for our own unguided visit to Lynn Valley park. Learn about the local forest & its inhabitants. The attendants are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the forest, that's for sure.
Love this place and have for many years I will come again and again. All my friends that have come by my recommendations love it as well.
I was last here with my high school on a field trip and it was an interesting place. I recommend this to people interested in wildlife around the area.
The Ecology Centre gives visitors basic forest ecology, great for all ages, but especially for the younger visitors. there is no charge to see the presentation, but donations are gratefully accepted at the door. For all you geocachers, there is a 'multicache' right here, as well as other caches in the area. The Lynn Canyon Park area is nice for... more
This could be fun for kids but I think it needs some tech improvements for most kids four and older.
Very good displays, and lots to learn. No entry fee. Great place to take children to get them started on the right foot.
Not only can you browse their extensive ecology library on anything and everything you will also have the opportunity to purchase Items from them if you so well please.
Pretty basic stuff, clearly designed for school age kids. Worth doing if you are in the park. 10 minute look. Donations at the door.
This is a great alternative to spending a fortune buying a ticket to get into Capilano Suspension Bridge, there is a suspension bridge there not as large but, it is a beautiful park and a great rainforest walk. In summer you can swim in the pools at the bottom. Great fun.
Great Day Out - so relaxing and like paradise. My favourite place to visit on a sunny day!!
Tip:Pack a picnic it can be costly in the restaurant.
and don't forget to leave a donation as the enterance is free :)
This centre has beautiful hiking trails, a neat gift shop & snack location plus a FREE suspension bridge that rivals the Capilano Suspension Bridge not too far away.
A very interesting display that we nearly missed, glad we went in and had a look at the beaut display.
Great way to spend a cheap afternoon.... nice walks, cafe (spring to fall only) and ecology centre with lots of interactive quizzes and great information.
The displays are very well done. The information given
is very informativ. Children are enjoying the displays.
very interesting for kids, lots to do, price
We had some family visiting with kids from Surrey ( 5 and 7 years), they love it as much as we (locals) do.
Good but small. Would like more information/a larger display.
This is a great place to bring children & out of town guests to learn about the flora & fauna of North Vancouver!
This is great FREE ecology centre that you can stop in while visiting the park. The Centre will explain all of the ecology about the park and there are souvenirs here as well.
Informative, interesting diversion/addition to a Lynn Canyon hike for kids, families, especially if wet weather. Some special kids programs at certain times of year (spring break?)
You will like this as much as your kids will, but don't waste your money in the cafe...much better eats in Lynn Valley Centre like Tommy's.
Definitely worth the time if you are in the Lynn Canyon area and not anywhere as touristy (or expensive) as Capilano. We send all our out of town visitors here and they rave about it.
I've been here on multiple occasions for educational purposes. Fortunately it's free, because it is extremely minimal in terms of activities and things to see. It is in need of an update, though I suppose the fact it is a non-profit attraction explains its condition. If you've never been here before, you might find the information interesting, especially prior to... more
The Suspension Bridge is not always comfortable, but it's great to say you've been brave enough to cross. Some unhappy history, but the forest is still there, with the river surging below.
A small place, tells about the history of the Lynn Canyon nature etc. but nothing too great.
My children and I went to Lynn Canyon for a walk across the suspension bridge and exploring the trails on the far side of the river. The suspension bridge was packed! Word has got out about this park since the last time I was there (in 2008). But the trails are still lovely, and the children loved the "green water"... more
Lynn Canyon is my #1 spot for a short hike in North Vancouver. Free parking , free entrance, well maintained trails, and terrific views. The suspension bridge is shorter than the Capilano Suspension Bridge but that hardly matters. The trails also connect to the North Vancouver wide trail system.
My wife and I went to Lynn Canyon almost directly after Capilano Suspension Bridge, and what a night and day difference, Lynn Canyon was far better in almost every conceivable way. Less crowded, less overbuilt, less commercialized, nicer trails, better views, free parking, and nicer people... hard to go wrong.
Lynn Canyon's bridge is a fair bit shorter, but the...

Located in Lynn Canyon Park, this center has exhibits on local flora and fauna.
This nature hut is nestled in Lynn Canyon Park. Featuring hands-on displays about animals, plants and the urban environment, it is a great way for families to round out an afternoon in the park. You can also enjoy films in the mini-theatre, play with the puppets or relax while the kids play with the piles of animal and nature toys around. The park itself is home to the Capilano Suspension... more
