This massive eatery seats up to 1,000 people. The last of Chinatown's dim sum palaces, Floata offers a huge lunch menu that ranges from well-made classics (steamed rice rolls and shrimp dumplings) to more daring fare (jellyfish and pig's trotters). Deep-fried wontons are light and crisp and come with a drizzle of sweet and sour. Try the moist steamed sponge cake (locals always choose the edge... more

Food was good. Had an early dinner at 3:30pm, some of the help were sent home so some of the dishes we could not order. They need to get rid of the gnats flying around while eating.

An adventure
August 21, 2014

If you do not speak Chinese, and do not know about dim sum dishes (we don't), this is an adventure. It certainly would be better to go with a Chinese person. In this huge restaurant, there was only one other table of non-Asian diners. We were simply at a loss trying to understand how to order, and trying to understand... more

We were lured by the free parking for 30mins. And then saw the big ad for a seafood place in the 3rd floor. We went up and got in -nobody else is around except for the waiter that upon close inspection later got some nail fungal infection going on.. Yuck. Kinda pricey. Food is ok - nothing special. There's better,... more

Went here on May 17 for a spot of dim sum brunch, first impression of the place is it is massive with lots of diners, but couldn't help noticing how dated the decor was! How was the food going to be?? It is a cart service, so the food came quick and fast, the quality was so so. The diners... more

Mry wife and I stopped in at the Floata in Chinatown to eat some dim sum for lunch. The dim sum was excellent with a large variety of types to choose from. The restaurant was clean and the service excellent!

Disgusting
April 11, 2014

The men's washroom has been divided in two by a small screen so that women can use two of the stalls since the ladies bathroom is 'under renovation'. There was a hose running to the faucet. Gross.

I should have gone with my gut instinct never to return to this hell hole again. My last visit from about 4 years ago was terrible but when friends wanted to go again 2 weeks ago, I relented just because it is so close to the Chinese New Year parade. Service was non-existent. I gave up waiting and walked to... more

Great place to eat before hockey game
December 31, 2013

This is a great place to go and eat before a Canucks' game at Rogers Arena. Food is good and service is great because there is very few people there at the time. I've never been disappointed. My friends love it. The bonus - parking is also free if you eat there - taken off your food bill.

December 23, 2013

In a world where there are amazing restaurants, Floata really is disappointing. Especially in a world-class city like Vancouver, BC, don't waste your time and hard-earned money at Floata. They acted like they didn't want to serve us and that it was a chore to provide us water with our meal.
They literally tossed several of our plates on the... more

September 29, 2013

We visited Chinatown area one day and was told that it' a well known restaurant. The restaurant is located within a mall, it' divided in dining area and karaoke/dining area; we ate at the dining area, it looked kind of old, if the carpet is changed, it would have made it looked newer and nicer. We brought our European guests here for some authentic Dim Sum. Sadly we got the caucasion table. You know.. the one by the bar, under the screen, and by the waiter's noisy dish station? Yeah that one.

Our party of 7 dined at an off time, around 3:30pm. Because of the off time, most of the dim sum menu was unavailable so there there really weren't very many choices on the menu. We figured eating in Chinatown was a must, so we took a concierge's recommendation and went to this restaurant. Bad decision. Despite living in Vancouver, we seldom venture down to Chinatown to have dinner--the suburb restaurants have far surpassed our aging tourist spot both in terms of quality and convenience. Don't be put off by Floata because it is receiving some poor reviews, it's just because reviewing a real Dim Sung place is hard. This was my first dimsum restaurant in Vancouver. Maybe I had too high expectations or we went at 3pm when it was nearly over. Anyway, it wasn’t good. The steamed pork buns were ok. Most dim sum here is $2.75 per plate. The quality is as good as any other dim sum we tried in Vancouver (that is, good).
