Peppermill is Closed

This restaurant is now a Mediterranean place. We read good reviews on the pepper mill but when we arrived if was a Mediterranean restaurant.

Very enjoyable

We had a family dinner here and enjoyed our food very much. All of it was done exceptionally well; no one walked away from that meal hungry. Go for the fresh seafood when in season, and most likely, you will not be disappointed.

Does anyone know if the Peppermill has shut down?

Good food but take note of Pepper in the title of the restaurant:) We have steak and I felt the pepper was a little overdone, I like to 'taste' my steak:)

Wonderful Surprise

What a great little treat to find such good food after wandering looking for an eating spot. We were fortunate to stop by early enough to make a reservation for later that night.
Great east coast seafood options, friendly service, of course, because it's Nfld! The coffee was the best of our journey so far! Highly recommended!

Excellent food

Whenever my son visits from Alberta this is the one restaurant he does not want to miss. It is a small restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Excellent Halibut

We decided to go out to dinner for New Year's Eve and lucky for us the Peppermill had an opening for two. Unlike most restaurants, they stuck with the regular menu. Great Seafood

The Peppermill is a quaint, small restaurant close to the Waterfront in St. Johns Newfoundland. My husband ate there while in the city with friends of ours and has been raving about the halibut ever since.

Wonderful fresh cod

I wandered in here while I was looking for a place to eat. I had the cashew crusted fresh cod - it was amazing! I am still salivating over it. Fast service. Anniversary Favorite

We ate at this restuarant for our first anniversary, and it's now an anniversary favorite for all of our close friends. The menu is small but excellent, very nice ambiance.

Came in 30 minutes before close, greeted with excellent service! The wine suggested to us paired nicely with every course we ate. A nice find

We wandered by late one evening and Peppermill still had a table. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this restaurant. The food was very well prepared and tasty. Service was great. We loved it and it was reasonably priced.

Though we had a reservation for four people, the table was only set up for three which we found to be odd especially since the restaurant was not full. Sad attempt at upscale food. Wine list deplorable and to make matters worse, our first selection was ' not available' as was our second and our third. Go for the food

I ate here April of 2012. This place doesn't have much for seating space, but the food it so flavorful. If you are looking for tasty fish look no further. Staff was very friendly. Parking is a bear, since it is downtown. Would highly recommend.

Don't let the decor scare you off

We look in and I thought we were back in the 1980's. Make sure you stay to eat. Food was very good and service even better. If you order the mussels for an appetizer, skip dinner. More than 30 and some of the best I ever had. Chicken dinner was just as good.

Outstanding food and service

My tour group of 11 ate here recently. I was very impressed how efficiently they dealt with the large group, and everyone agreed the food was outstanding. We felt fortunate to get a reservation on a Saturday night of the long weekend. I had the cashew-encrusted halibut...very tasty! Service was great, friendly and not slow at all. Highly recommended.

Best place to eat in St. John's

It is a small place, but food and service are exceptional. I had dinner there the other night, food was fresh and delicious. Prices are very reasonable compared to other places in town. Servings are generous, as somebody else here noticed.

Great dinner place in St. John's

We ate dinner at the Peppermill and had an excellent dinner. I had the duck with partridgeberry which was cooked to perfection. The serving was very generous too. And the sweet potato fries were outstanding. My husband had the chicken stuffed with canadian bacon which he enjoyed enormously. We brought our 8 month old and they were very accommodating.

One of Our Favourites

Dinner, once again was lovely : Salmon and Lobster tail with a beautiful sauce cooked to perfection and chicken with a great reduction. WOW !! Service was friendly and efficient. We are never disappointed. Reservations a must as they turned away a number of people. Great place for an intimate dinner.

One of the best in St. Johns

I've eaten in a few of the better 'so-called' restaurants in St. Johns, and I find this has been one of the more reasonably priced and satisfying restaurants of the bunch. Hoping that doesn't come across as negative, because it it not intended to be. This is a fine restaurant.

Dropped in with family on a Wednesday night and got the last table with many others turned away. Our family rated dishes as very good (fish chowder, mango chicken) to excellent (fishcakes, organic salad with wilted greens, cashew encrusted cod). Service was friendly but a bit slow. the blackened halibut is excellent. you have an assortment of fish dishes prepared elegantly. you can also find traditional newfoundland dishes such as cod tongues and they too are delicious (skip the jelly bit tho..) great wine list to accompany and usually a lot of specials available. make reservations in advance!

Quite Good Food

This was our second visit to this restaurant, we went July 5, 2011. Our meal was fantastic, the sever was very pleasant and helpful. I had the cod dish with scrunchions and it was absolutely delicious. The rest of our party of 4 had fish dishes which were also much enjoyed.
I can highly recommend this restaurant.

A nice restaurant in downtown St John's

We tried the obligatory cod's tongues here, which were good. Nice chowder and a huge steak meal (though slightly over done for rare). Great friendly service. Definitely worth a visit.

Great food, excellent service and nice people

The prices for the food was reasonable to good for the high quality.
Staff was superb even when things went badly. A server tipped a glaas of water on one of my guest s, he took it in stride and strangely the whole evening got better.
The atmosphere was great, wine list good, menue varied and excellent.

Went to The Pepper Mill on a whim, had never tried it before but thought we would give it a go and didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly suprised! This is not a big restaurant, in fact I found it a little on the small side, but the food was delicious and I liked the menu. Overall a great experience.

Good food, Good Service

The fresh food and atmosphere were a nice change. My husband had a stuffed chicken breast special and a piece of ligonberry pie. I had the fantastic mussels in white wine sauce and a salad. Great service. Look forward to going back when next I'm in St. John's.

Loved the food, loved the atmosphere. Try the wilted spinach w/prawns for lunch or the prosciutto Cod w/brie for dinner, unreal.

I only ate there once but I did feel as though it was the most disgusting restaurant food I had ever tasted! I would never go back there. The restaurant was freezing, there was water all over the floor (from snow), it was uncomfortable. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere, which really isn\’t even spectacular when you\’re faced with other choices in the downtown area.
