Panaderia Latina Bakery

Empanadas. It seems its my “thing” of the past year in terms of something to eat that I’ve deliberately sought out more often than any other food. In doing so, I’ve had a few different takes on it. But in the end, I think I’m really all about the salty, savoury taste that only a delicious melted cheese inside can provide.

Hidden behind a nondescript storefront just north of the Joyce SkyTrain station, Panaderia Latina Bakery serves up mouth-watering South American treats like pandelos de crema (turnovers filled with cream) and sticky-sweet hojaldra (layers of pastry and dulce de leche). Everything is made fresh on the premises daily—Chilean owners Aida Ordenes and Jose Riqelme lead a team of bakers that includes... more

Panaderia Latina sells tamales with bone -in pieces of chicken. Quite unheard of in most circles and generally considered a foul practice. It will be my last tamale from there and a zero star review although you cannot leave a review without a rating.
Also their Argentinian chimi churri was , due to unchewable chunks of green matter such as parsley detracted from its palatability and did not... more

Like this bakery, it satisfies both my husbands need for savoury (tortas! Empanadas!) and my sweet tooth (lots of dulce de leche / caramel coated pastries,).

Couple this with friendly proprietors and a selection of hot sauces, peppers, and snacks makes this a place to revisit.

As an homesick chilean, I must say that their meat empanadas are really good! I also tried the cheese empanadas and the milhojas cake.... very good as well. Will go back again to try the pastel de choclo.

Had an Empanada craving so I made the drive over to this place.
1 Beef, 1 Chicken and 1 Cheese Please.

The beef was very tasty and had a few olives as a nice surprise.
The chicken was OK.
The Cheese was the star but is was in more of a puff pastry than the others.

Now what looked really good were the steak sandwiches every one sitting down was eating. Will be back to try one of those bad boys... more

One word. Chacarero. Huge, messy, beef-y filling sandwich goodness!!! The staff is always extremely nice no matter how busy it is. And it's always busy! I can get my tamarindo soda fix when I'm here, or a really really stuffed empanada if I'm not as hungry for a chacarero. Plus they have a good selection of grocery items if you are in need! Thank god for this place.

I love coming here. The empanadas are great, the baked goods are amazing! I am Salvadoran and I think their pupusas are pretty good and decently priced. A bonus is their grocery section and also the cola champagne. The staff there are also always very friendly and I don't remember having to wait at all. My half bro is from chile and he loved it! Highly recommend this little place!

Needed to get take-out in the area and saw Marc D.'s review for the chacarero sandwich. Tried it and loved it! Thanks Marc!

Will return as they have a lot of Latino products (Mexican, Chilean, Peruvian), and the sweets and pastries look divine!

WHAAAA???? A CHILEAN BAKERY IN VANCOUVER???? SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!... was my reaction when I found out about Panaderia Latina Bakery.

Being a Chilena myself (and having grown up on traditional Chilean cooking), I tend to have some pretty high standards when it comes to the cuisine, but ya know what? All of these standards have been met at Panaderia Latina Bakery (Yaaaaaayyy!).

So what do I... more

Gosh I love this place when I can get down.

I don't remember the names of the sandwiches (actually chacarero is one - beef with green beans) and they have one with beef and cheese. MMM. I had the big sandwich with half of each.

It is a GUT buster and only those with huge appetites (like me) will be able to finish it in one sitting!

* Chilean bakery, sandwiches, and grocery *

I'm a big fan of this place. It is primarily a bakery, but also offers sandwiches and has a small grocery section offering Latin products. The operators are Chilean, and they offer Chilean sandwiches as well as Chilean pastries.

I had the chacarero sandwich (sliced beef with tomatoes and green beans). The meat was clearly prepared to order as it was... more

Once and awhile if you have spent any time in the southern cone of South America you just gotta have a real Chilean empanada pino style, not those tiny bites the neolatin restaurants offer but a big honken handful of meaty goodness, so head on over, grab one of the few tables and watch the pre-recorded Chilean TV shows while digging into a real empanada, the comings and goings of the locals are... more
