I really like this place. The appetizers here are especially good. We often just make a meal out of them along with our drinks. The service is great and the staff is very friendly and attentive.
This is a typical pub with a relatively small bar area and somewhat larger dining area that can accommodate medium sized groups. It also has a roof-top patio in the summer. The NTN trivia is a draw for the after work crowd and is popular for some prime time slots.
Staff members are friendly and quick to recall preferences if you are a repeat customer. The food is of the usual tavern style with the Tandoori wings standing out. A nice variety of beer is on hand both in draft and bottle. Prices are quite reasonable.

Small pub with good food (we had burgers, sandwiches and salad) and beer selection, average price. Service was attentive and prompt. I learned that you can ask for 1/2 salad and 1/2 fries ;)
Still on our nostalgia trip, the New Edinburgh was our go-to local when we lived in Ottawa. Located just by the Rideau River in twee but lovely New Edinburgh. When the weather is nice, go up to the rooftop terrace, which has its own bar. Great pub food, from salads to burgers and more inventive fare. Live music from time... more
$5 plus tax for a half pint of cider is a bit steep. The beer prices put us off this otherwise nice pub. Two average priced dinners, one regular beer and a half of cider for almost $50 in a pub is high. Lots of other dining choices in the area that we will try on our next visit.
We had a family surprise birthday party at this location on a Saturday afternoon and this restaurant/Pub Bar really provided a great day. Appetizers were ordered for the group and all the food was laid out on a table and everything was fantastic. We had fried zucchini, chicken wings, bruschetta bread and nachos. OMG, everything was fantastic and tasked awesome.... more
The New Edinburgh is definitely a locals pub, but more in the family sense than a "full of sketchy folk" sense. Ottawa seems to be overly populated with Generic chain "Irish" Pubs (Royal Oak, Heart & Crown, Darcy's etc..) that are all pretty much the same so it's nice to get a different atmosphere. The rooftop patio is nice, with a good view of the Rideau River, however this does means you do... more
This cozy neighbourhood pub is a good place to catch up with your buddies over a cool one, in this hustling and bustling, vibrant neighbourhood. The rooftop patio is a cool place to hang out. I was impressed with the patio stones on the floor here - glad to see that the roof of the pub below is sturdy enough to support this!
Honestly, the best part of my experience here was the company I was...

If I lived nearby I could definitely see myself becoming a regular here. It's got the feeling of a local watering hole. and with friendly staff, delicious drinks and a rooftop patio, there's not much more that I would need to convince me to return. I didn't get a chance to try any food, so I'll have to return and review that part of the pub.
As an west-end girl, I must say this place was a...

nice patio to have drinks and watch the cop cars go by - 3 on our count.
i had the fish that was recommended by our server with the sweet potato fries - it was ok, certainly not a foodie haunt but if you just want to have a good pint, and stick something down your throat.......then here you go.
This place can be hit-or-miss. I live in the neighbourhood so I love being able to stop by for a beer, but I know to never expect great service during the day time.
You'll have a great experience during the evening/night, and there's nothing better than sitting on their rooftop patio, especially when they have live music.
I once went in with a friend for lunch during the week - we were there...

It is a pub so..its going to be simple fare..the menu has impoved drastically over the years..which is great they just have to retain a great cook to stay there- Beer selection is interesting...but .service was negligible at best.. the patio upstairs is probably cleaner than restaurant... This place needs a MAJOR cleaning (ick) .ie: even walls smell like stale beer...and change in... more
The New Edinburgh Pub is a great place to gather with friends to have some drinks and watch a game if you are into sports. I went here with my sister and her boyfriend for wing night.
We started out with a pitcher and some sangria. There are lots of different beers on tap. The sangria is made to order, not just out of a box.
The wings were very good and the waitress didn't mind that we made a...

New Edinburgh should be better, and tries to be really unique; the problem is it tries too hard.
The look and feel of the pub is definitely not of your typical pub, the colours, configuration and setup is different. At first you think, 'ok, this is different, let's see how this is!'. Unfortunately somewhere along the line of trying something different, the point of a bar/pub experience is...

Waitress was a bit slow to get my order. Food came, I ate while watching the game. Waitress completely ignored me afterwards though she paid lots of attention to the tables directly next to me. So I got no drinks, dessert, or whatever for the next 2 hrs or so while I watched the game.
She probably saw little tip coming from a table of one -- and she got exactly that -- but that was all her...

Yep... gotta agree! Poor service, c@!%!y food! Pickwick's up
the road is so much better, and even they aren't that great!
Very overpriced. POOR service.Food is nothing you can't
get better elsewhere.
The food is overpriced and can be found elsewhere with better
service and better taste.
Slow service, so-so food. My order was messed up, so they cleared
the bill, but I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes to bring
the correct order.
The New Edinburgh Pub is an established eatery that has been serving Ottawa area customers great food in a relaxed atmosphere for over 20 yrs
