The staff was not great. Parking is an ISSUE. Couldn't get parking at 11 when we arrived in Vancouver. Went back at 3.30 to find out there wasn't anything available. 30 minutes after it was 'first come first serve'. At 6.30 after searching for parking went back to ask the front desk where I should park only to find out there actually WAS parking. And the guy that originally told me there was... more
Decently priced option that was a quick bus ride away from the convention center/Gastown/other downtown attractions. The staff were quite friendly and helpful. The wifi would go in and out without notice, and it sometimes felt like I needed to do a magical conjuring to get the hotel login screen to show up on my computer. Small inconveniences with the room, like the water kind of dribbling out... more
Recently stayed at this hotel/motel (May 2014). It needs some sprucing up -lets just say that. It smelled and felt like road-side motel. Bed was uncomfortable, bathroom was clean, but needed some good power scrubbing, shower curtain should be replaced - it was white and the edges were grey - from age and use. And did I say it smelled like a motel?
You could hear people talking/laughing in...

Good Staff, Room is good, excellent price.Location is so so, it is Granville street after all, there are a few adult shops, homeless, pawn shops around but on the other side there are a lot of coffee shops and little restaurants.I was traveling by my self so it was OK, family maybe I would find something else.
Nice hotel in general, great ubication, nice and friendly staff
Not recommend the Howard Johnson Vancouver to anyone spent six sleepless nights, I found a mouse in my room, and the direction of the hotel said that is normal? How so? Only changed the room? I want to be compensated for the stress that I spent all day sleeping in the hotel, is absurd! Mouse is actually cleaning, pest control and hygiene!!
I paid quite expensive not to have comfort and peace...

Spending a Wednesday night at this hotel, we probably had one of the quietest nights along Granville Street - an area well known for being the strip of bars and clubs in Vancouver. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic were definitely audible in our room on the second floor, but we were able to sleep through it. If the club beneath was open (Barcelona), I imagine the night would have been... more
It is quite close to downtown. We could easily move from the hotel to all places. People are gently. The bed broke so they gave us another room.
Nice place price not Bad for Downtown Vancouver. However I asked for a Geust that was staying there and front Desk told me he was not in Hotel. Turns out he was and lied to me as He told me my life long friend was not booked in Hotel. He was and under his name. Very dissapointed as our meeting almost did not take place.
That's good, not so expensive hotel in Vancouver Downtown.
Noisy --- ask a room further from Granville Ave. Parking is fee ($12/night) is not included in the room price. Also is very limited (not guarantied ) and if you arrive late night it’ll, most probably, taken by visitors of a nearest bar.
good location, good access from the air port. but I send e-mail pirior, but they didn't reply to me,,,
Very Clean. I was in room 403 that fronts the street. It can be noisy but I had fun watching a couple of arrests and all the people. There is a great sports bar downstairs in the building. It is in the center of the action, hence the arrests. All the staff were great. It was a very good stay. Only reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars is because the room is small. But then again the price was... more
The hotel is located right in the heart of downtown Vancouver on Granville Street. It is easy walking to all the bars and night life. The room was cramped but comfortable. For being in downtown, it was a good price compared to other budget locations.
It's in a great location, but the old, musty-smelling rooms were hard to take. One receptionist was very friendly; one totally ignored me. Occupants with cars should know that it's $19 a day to park in the hotel lot.
We found the hotel was clean and staff friendly. It was a very good location for us. Close to transport, restaurants etc
Not the swankiest hotel in Vancouver, but for the price and location, it was a good place to stay. The hotel was clean, staff were friendly, and rooms were adequate.
The room was cozy but basic. Aside from the TV with basic cable and pay-per-view, there was not much reason to stay in the room. My interaction with the workers was pleasant and the hotel appeared to be neat and clean. There is a restaurant attached which is nice for lunch, dinner, or pregame. The hotel is located in the heart of the Vancouver nightlife, so on weekend nights the street fills... more
I was actually uncomfortable here. I loved the location, but hated the time in the hotel, other than the nice sports bar downstairs.
Although location was great, the room was small. Both the bed area and the bathroom felt cramped and there was no shelf space in the bathroom.
The location is near Granville Island so it is a long way to walk if you are going to the Waterfront VCC. Take the bus for $2.50. Walking maps are provided and a bus stop is just to the right as you are leaving the front doors. The hotel refused to offer professional membership discounts if not booked directly through them. This is a bit more run down section of town and there is more noise.... more
The best thing about this hotel is its location and proximity to public transit, the downtown area, convention center, and lots of small eateries. When I arrived my room smelled vaguely of sewage and bleach and though the smell dissipated in my room (or maybe I just got used to it) I was assaulted by it every time I ventured out into the corridor. The room itself was small and though I asked for... more
If you are thinking about staying at Howard Johnson on weekend, please look for other options. The club downstairs makes noise till 3:00am and you won't be able to get good sleep. The price and location was great but the rooms are small. Again, look for different options before booking this hotel for your stay on weekends.
very comfortable hotel with good price, I will go again next time when I visit Vancouver.
Staff is nice and the location is great... You could walk to everything. The noise on the other hand is unbearable .... And the hotel hallways are not clean and have a smell similar to bleach. There is also a construction site next door. The restaurant downstairs "Wings" has nothing to do with wings or even food... more
“Good price for a central Vancouver location. Staff was friendly. Rooms were fine, clean, but not fancy. Good Internet connection. Nice lobby.”
Location was key. We are young adults therefore location was more of an issue than the actual rooms. If your a traveler who prefers location rather than the actual hotel quality this is a solid choice. Rooms were decent but a little older, bathroom was big. We were able to walk most places we went (but we love to walk). Only downfall was the lack of a refridgerator.
I stayed on Saturday January 15th at the Howard Johnson Downtown Vancouver for one night and really enjoyed my stay. I parked my car at the well lid parking right next to the Hotel, and as I arrived inside I got welcomed right away from the friendly staff. Within a few short minutes I was checked in, express check-in would be a understatement, and was already on my way up to my room. The room... more
Hotel was very conveniently located right in the heart of the town with a skytrain station just 5 mins walk away and frequent bus services passing the hotel. The area might be a little too lively for some tastes and noise at night might concern some especially if you are just over the night club attached to the hotel but it didn't bother me. The free wifi worked well.
The Hotel is centrally located, and the staff were very helpful. The facilities, when compared to price, is excellent. I would have no hesitation to return to this Hotel.
“We thought we were getting a great deal on a downtown hotel on a travel web site, and at first we were pleasantly surprised by our results. The hotel had obviously been recently renovated, smelled good, they now offer on-site parking (for $18/day), and our room was small but clean.
The area is a little shady at night because it's in the sex district, but we got over that. However, when we...

“ Nothing luxurious but everything met expectations of cleanliness and comfort. The room was on the small side, but had TV, WiFi, comfortable bed, and clean bathroom. Location was excellent. ”
tiny sweaty rooms, cheap enough. very noisy nightclub located below rooms. terrible parking, good location
When we arrived at hotel and checked in, I immediately went to front desk and told two counter people that I wanted a chair for desk in my room. I was told that "basic" unit - which was $25/nite more than cheapest - did not come with chair: if I wanted chair, I must upgrade and pay $30/nite additional. Not good service. And not true: at end of stay, when I complained again, was told "of... more
Staff were very helpful. Decor is a little tied. The rooms need to be double glased to keep out noise.
全て普通以上でした。逆に、不満などはありませんでした。街の中で、どこに行くのも便利な場所です。コーヒーセットもあり、無線LANもありです。少しスピード遅いかもしれませんが。フロントの方もきちんと丁寧に対応してくれました。
If you like being right in the heart of the nightlife in this city, this is a great hotel. It felt very safe and secure despite all the foot traffic outside. Even thought the street was constantly buzzing, it was very quiet inside the room. The staff was wonderful and I would definitely go back if I ever head that way again.
The room was nice, the beds very comfortable, and everything modern, attractive, and working properly. The hotel is located in a trashy part of town, with noisy bars right downstairs and all over the block. Many of the noisemakers stay at the hotel, run in and out of rooms slamming doors all night, and talk loudly in the halls. Certainly not a quiet spot!
Our first trip into Canada, so we really did not know what to expect. While waiting for our cruise ship to come into the docks we stayed at the Howard Johnson - there must have been some event going on most of the night. There was a lot of noise and partying on the street outside our window with the police and security very much available. But for sleep this night - it was not available. Was... more
“Friendly staff at front desk and restaurant. Very courteous!”
“This is not a fancy hotel, but not a dump either. Right in the middle. You have to pay $16 per night parking fee, so if you find another hotel w/parking included; I would pay extra for a different hotel.”
Allover ok! We had a nice stay. Thank you
We went to Vancouver for a Roller Derby Bout, and stayed downtown to be close to everything. The hotel advertises itself as "Presidential Excellence" and def does not deliver! There are only about 15 parking places for the whole hotel, and its first come first serve. After that, you're only options are parking garages blocks away, or hoping a genie pops out and grants you a wish! Do not trust... more
I went to Vancouver for a leisure trip. I like the hotel location since I can just walk around and accessible with public transportation. About the hotel, I couldn't sleep at all because I could hear the noise above my room, noise next to my room and noise across the hallway. There's no sound protection even a bit that I could hear doors opening and closing across the hall.
Unfortunately, I must say that this was the worst hotel experience that I've ever had. Upon arrival most hotels ask for your credit card number for any extras you may have during your stay, however this hotel wants to take a large deposit immediately. We preferred to leave cash, so they wanted almost double the amount in cash. Long story short when we left they tried to give us canadian dollars... more
It was very good, I couldn't understand front desk lady very well. Some noise from people coming in but sastainable.
very unfriendly check-in. could not understand femalevery abrupt manner. made to feel unwelcome and want to change hotels.
I didn't like this hotel, from the noisy location to the way the woman at the desk when i arrived late at night spoke to me without looking up from her computer screen. Small dimly lit room, 'enhanced' by the glow of the howard johnson neon shining through the gap in the curtains. Internet available on a computer from a previous millennium, $2 for 15 mins gave me time to read about one email,... more
“The hotel condition and appearance did not meet my expectation. While the service was excellent, I would probably seek alternate accommodations the next time.”
Tjhe cleanliness will need to be improved.
Hotel was located right downtown Vancouver which was good but due to current road works/construction, very difficult to reach with many road closures.Price seemed good but then hotel charged additional $14/day for parking and local calls were also billable so price quickly became less of a bargain.
Our first thought was that the room were tiny and a bit outdated. But once we got out and started walking around we realized the hotel was pretty close to everything. We were able to walk to Robson St., down to the ferry to Granville Island. And a cab ride back was only $6-7. The hotels restaraunt Wings was a cool place to catch dinner before walking to one of the many clubs within walking... more
This is good hotel, at heart of down town. People are nice, internet speed is good, have ice machine, have lot of good Japanese, Chinese, general restaurants. Roadside is little noisy upto Mid night- value for money
“Nice hotel, but not many amenities. TV, phone and coffee maker in the room which was clean but small. No breakfast included, no own restaurant but a restaurant next door.”
“This hotel was fine to stay at for someone traveling on a budget. It was very clean and well kept but was an older building with a slow elevator and narrow hallways.”
“If I was traveling by myself this hotel is good enough for me. It was so hard to find a parking space and I waited for 45 minutes to get a spot which defeated the purpose of leisure travel which I came very tired after a busy day. Parking is not very secure for a car I rented when I saw left over food was placed in the roof of the car.”
“Well located to Downtown Vancouver, good price, front rooms are above very busy and noisy bar.”
“This is a nice hotel with a great location. Basic rooms are comfortable and good value for money.”
“It was fairly good to visit and the location is really an advantage.”
“This hotel is in a great, central location with very helpful staff. It is perfect for the leisure traveler who wants to save a few bucks. There are also tons of restaurants surrounding the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.”
“It was a nice hotel with friendly staff and I would stay there again. It was in a great location.”
The Howard Johnson on Granville street is acutally a nice clean place to stay. It looks like they took an old building and redid everything. The rooms were very clean, beds were nice and the rooms in the back are quiet. The parking is horrible as it's first come first serve basis. There is a lot next to it which is the same price because you have to pay for parking!!! Lot's of action on the... more
This hotel had a great location for travelers without small children. Across the strett from the hotel were many 'adult' stores and shady characters coming and going from them. The lobby was small and hot. They Internet costs .75 a minute and they have one computer. The staff were fairly rude and unhelpful. It was fine for our tour of the Pacific Northwest because we spent our money on... more
For a hotel in a convenient area of downtown Vancouver, the Howard Johnson in Downtown Vancouver was a great value. Clean room/facilities, very nice and accomodating staff, good restaurant right next to lobby.
I choose the Grandville HJ's for walking distance to the start and finish of the 2007 Vancouver marathon. Excellent places to eat within blocks of the motel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. clean rooms.
The Howard Johnson was a very nice hotel. It wasnt too extravagant but it felt somewhat ritzy. The location is amazing... very close to good shopping dining and clubbing.
“The Hotel is charming and located in a very good location. The hotel refuses to give us two double beds or something that will accommodate two people and will charge 15 dollars for extra bed. So after we arrive, we pay extra 15 dollars per day to get another bed.”
The manager and one of the staff were rude and ignorant beyond compare, insulting both me and my wife. The chances are that you wont get the promised wireless internet access unless you are in one of a few rooms within the reception radius. The area is very seedy, with peepshows across the street and homeless going through bins outside, frequently ... more
“Small rooms, but a clean and comfortable place to stay for a few days.”
“The staff could care less about the traveler. They were unhelpful, rude.”
“Disappointing! Marginally clean. Window view was of construction razing a building. Noisy! Located in seedy area of city.”
“After trying to stick us with a smoking room, we settled for the only non-smoking room available--a 2nd floor double bed room across from a loud dance place. But that was nothing. This area is so seedy we wouldn't go on the street at night (and were scared to death our car would be broken into in the $17/night public lot where we were forced to park). Weirdos, addicts, porn shops boasting S&M... more
