Be careful not to go here when they allow deer hunting, very disconcerting to think that hunting is allowed in a conservation area. What does the definition of conservation mean to Hamilton if hunting is allowed? Check Hamilton Spectator archives to see that humans have been killed by so called hunting accidents in Hamilton near conservation areas. Not my idea... more
We took a walk on the Rail Trail the other day, just because it was nice to finally be able to get out of the house and enjoy the warm(er) weather. Parking was available, just off highway 52, South of Copetown, and just south of Governor's Road. We walked for a few kilometers East, back towards the trail head, near... more
If possible, do the complete trail. Visit the falls, the lookouts and go all the way to the end.
You will find gorgeous views of the valleys and waterfalls and they are all fairly close to each other, so no time to get bored.
Unless you are into climbing, stay on the general path. Side trails can be very steep!
yes, they really do allow hunting. Only aboriginal people of course, because they don't really want hunting and they are cowardly idiots who don't know how to run a conservation area, but they do let them hunt where kids play, and there is cycling, hiking, horseback riding etc. What a bunch of dummies running this place.
This is a lovely place to hike in. You can see various animals if you are lucky. Relaxing feel and refreshing. Ran into people from Toronto and further you indicated they come regularly to hike and enjoy the flora and fauna.
I like the size and space in Dundas valley. Lots of trails to select from. The bruce trail is beautiful. Good mountain biking. However, cross country skiing in the winter is not too good.
I have run and biked in "The Valley" for 30 years. Just got back from a 60 km bike on a rail trail that goes through the middle. There are nearly infinite trail combinations ranging from easy to moderate intensity with a variety of forest/field combinations. Several of the trails are wheelchair/stroller accessible. The Niagara escarpment goes through the area... more
We have lived in the area for a year and are still discovering new trails and different areas to hike and bike. The Rail Trail is a great biking path, mostly flat, miles of no cars, scenic views, shady trails for these hot days. Great for family biking or novice bikers. And walking or jogging as well. Many waterfalls in... more
The trails are beautiful part of the Hamilton Wentworth area. Fabulous mountain biking, great views. Waterfalls and
Lots to do in the beautiful Dundas Valley in all seasons. I recommend seeing The Hermitage and walking from there to the old train station
Although it can get busy on weekends in the warm weather, the trails are lovely and well maintained. I've gone several times for long hikes. Its a great place for taking pictures, during any season.
This is a great walk/bike to do with your family. It is a multi-use trail so biking is included. The kids love it with all the bridges and hills. Please remember to keep your dog on a leash though - not everyone likes having a dog run up to them and there is an over population of deer (which it... more
We loved this Conservation area .We ran our bikes on the Hamilton-Brantford rail trail which we started heading west (to the right of the trail center) toward Brantford going uphill for 6 km and the returning downhill at top speed all the way back to the trail center( just stopping at the crossroads) and it was really fun. On the... more
This is a fantastic place with loads of trails a snack station for weary hikers. My husband and I go several times a year and never get bored.
Still technically part of the city of Hamilton, it is shocking to have such amazing woods, trails, activities and wildlife. This is a multi-use trail system, so hikers, meanderers, horsey people, mountain bikers and leisure cyclists all share the same trails, but it works. There are a lot of hills, which is great for anyone who wants a workout, but... more
