not only in my mind but in the mind of many critics. it is constantly on the top 10 list of toronto life magazine, and for good reason. be warned, it's pricey.
A few years back, my husband and I decided to eat at this restaurant. The atmosphere was nice, the food was excellent and the service was perfect. They even cleaned the crumbs off our table after each course. The only thing, it was way overpriced for dinner for two...and we didn't even order wine!
Overall good experience!
"Every fish lover deserves a visit" to this "high-class" Little Italy Portuguese where the "selection of plates is intoxicating", the wines "remarkable" and the "quaint" setting full of "old-world charm"; sure, it's "pricey", but factor in "upscale service" with "zero attitude" and it's "so worthwhile", just "dress well – everyone else does"; P.S. the adjacent bar, Senhor Antonio, focuses on... more
It's all relaxed elegance here, beginning with the fine selection of appetizers at Senhor Antonio Tapas and Wine Bar and continuing through the French doors to the dining room, which has polished wood floors and plum-velvet armchairs. The exquisite fish, which form the menu's basis, are flown in from the Azores and Madeira. You might have monkfish, grouper, or peixe espada (scabbard fish).... more
Local Portuguese families flock here for special occasions; the atmosphere is an old-world balance of sophistication and warmth. At its core, it's a great fish restaurant, thanks in part to the fresh seafood flown in most days of the week, with perfectly grilled sardines and pan-seared monkfish. The wine list is equally impressive, especially for those who believe Portuguese wines are plonk but... more
Chiado is upscale Portuguese dining, with mains such as pan-seared filet of grouper, grilled octopus with sweet pepper salsa, roasted Australian rack of lamb, and specialty dishes with fresh fish flown in from Portugal. Superior choice for seafood dining, though probably not the place to catch Brazil vs. Portugal.
My family and friends have been going to Chiado once or twice a year since 1995. This has been the most consistently outstanding dining experience for all of us. We have done Winterlicious once but all other times we go to Chiado to celebrate special occasions for great food and outstanding service. Admittedly, we are fish and seafood lovers but... more
Chiado is a wonderful restaurant, and one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. Food quality is beyond reproach and the service is impeccable.
On Saturday evening my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Chiado. We had a wonderful time..the food, the wine and the waiters were all great. I would recommend to my friends and look forward to going again. It was a great experience.
Every trip to Chiado becomes an opportunity for a mini vacation...almost like an escape for the evening. From the moment you are hospitably and graciously greeting at the reception to the impeccable care and service brought to your meal, the evening is a treat! For those of you who love to eat a whole fresh grilled fish, with head, this is the place to go. It can also be deboned at your table if you wish!
Overall the Summerlicious experience at Chiado was very good. I had the salmon tartar with avocado for appetizer, the sea bream for entree and then the white chocolate flan for dessert. The tartar was flavourful and fresh, the sea bream was delicious (crispy skin was yummy) - although my friend's sea bream had a lot of bones, and the flan... more
I found this place through Summerlicious. I was quite disappointed.
$ 150 for 2 people with 1 glass of house wine each. At that price, I anticipated a minimum of service.

There are not many places in Toronto that have ample seafood choices. This is a place that has amazing seafood selections. I just don't like the food in Chiado...don't know why...no surprise at all
I have visited Chiado two or three times over a 15-20 year period. It is renowned for its excellent seafood, and it remains one of if not the best seafood restaurant in Toronto. The fish is always perfectly cooked and paired with interesting and very tasty vegetables. The wine list, largely but not exclusively Portuguese, gives the customer a wide range of choices at reasonable prices, with... more
The title says it all. We have eaten at Chiado a number of times, and there is always great food and exemplary service. Their seafood is particularly outstanding. It is our favourite higher end restaurant in Toronto.
came here for summerlicious, food was good, service was ok, however nothing really special
This is our third visit to Chaido and it's always been lovely. Had the Summerlicious menu and the skate wing was fabulous. Service is always professional and efficient. Look forward to my next visit.
Waiter seemed knowledgeable and nice, but the pace was out of wack. Appetizers came in before we were even done with the aperitives, wine came after that. Immediately after came the mains. Basically had to chug a bottle of wine as they were closing for the night.
All in all, food was great but we didn't appreciate being fast tracked though the dinner experience.
I found this restaurant on the Summerlicious list of restaurants and it was a terrific find! The food was beautifully prepared, tasted delicious and lovely to look at. They cooked their seafood perfectly and the amounts were just right. The service was attentive and the ambiance was lovely, it was a special lunch and it felt like an occasion which is how it should be. I have already recommended... more

Really enjoyed the meal and the impeccable service. The goat cheese brulee was sumptuous.
We four adults went to lunch at Chiado and ordered off the Summerlicious menu. Like some of the other reviewers, we came here for the Summerlicious experience. It was interesting to note that many of the Summerlicious options are not on their regular menu which seems to kind of defeat the purpose of Summerlicious.

It was our first time in this lovely Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Toronto Little Portugal. Chiado is without question one of Toronto's finest restaurants. Much less well known than some of the expensive restaurants downtown, it never fails to impress when we go. We always choose from the selection of daily fresh fish and its always well prepapred and presented. Not cheap, but a real treat for a special occasion.
Ambience and service were very good, but I wasn't blown away by the menu or the presentation of the food. The sardine appetizer was lovely but the squid seemed a bit overcooked. The fish main was very nice but presented with mashed potatoes and two slivers of parsnip and one sliver of squash. An all-white plate. The plate could really have used some green vegetables for colour and for... more
Very, very unfriendly. No one came out to greet us when we arrived.
My lobster risotto for $45 was ice cold and tasteless. This risotto reminded me of slightly salty rice pudding from a cheap supermarket.

I wasn't expecting much from this dining experience since it was part of the Summerlicious program. Friendly, prompt service. Great fish, of course, and nice presentation. Vegetables could have a bit more attention paid to them.
We had dinner of the summerlicious event there. Waited for more than an hour between the first and second course...Maybe this is you get what you paid for?
Wonderful ambience. Busy but not rushed. Intimate feeling. Varied menu with many items I would not make at home. We loved it and will go again and again.
The food was excellent, the only reason I gave four stars was because three of us ordered the exact same dessert, but mine was significantly smaller! Portions should have a standard size, in my opinion. Initially, our server seemed annoyed at having to repeat things to us, but I think it was his sense of humour and he lightened up later and was fun. Lovely atmosphere! I would definitely return... more

My third time there -- Chiado never disappoints. Excellent service, top-notch food. Highly recommended.
Fantastic food and service, and truly a special place to celebrate any and all occasions.
Great appetizer plate of octopus, shrimp and sardines. Then a most enjoyable plating of three fish specials, and lobster risotto for our entrees. Highly recommend a visit, and place yourself in the hands of your server for an unforgettable food experience.
great food, great choices, the service was first class, also the wine was great.
Chiado was great from start to finish. Knowledgable and professional staff. Complimentary olive oil with olives with bread for the table. The chef prepared an amuse bouche for us. Daily features of fish from portugual presented to us. Great wine selection. Its what proper dining is all about

Great atmosphere, we ordered a sampling plate of all appetizers which was heavenly. They come with a plate that shows all the fish and you select which one you like. Its not cheap BUT worst every dollar.

Excellent dining experience!!! Food is amazing. Spectacular service. You get what you pay for. Perfect for special occasions.
Eagerly anticipated a celebratory meal with old friends, and picked Chiado based on reviews and few highly regarded alternatives open for Sunday dining. Chiado transported me back to a time when people primped and dressed to dine out, to make "eating" an "occasion" and in respect of both the establishment and one's self. Chiado specializes in excellently prepared fresh fish and seafood served in a more traditional style. Old world charm and ambiance at a restaurant that is the best Portuguese seafood restaurant in Toronto and has been for decades. Expensive but well worth the visit.

Fish flown in from Portugal and they made a point to show them to you before your order. We had the grilled octopus, sardines, quail, and a whole fish (can't remember the name, but it is similar to a mediterranean sea bass) grilled to perfection. Chiado is a great venue for Portuguese cuisine. They have valet parking right at the front door. The restaurant has great ambiance and the seating arrangement is quite good and private if you want. They import fresh fish from Portugal, as well as wonderful wines and olive oil.
If you're walking west on the College St strip, replete with mediocre eateries, keep walking.to Chiado. It's a little further, but it's that good.
The Material is great, the cooking is professional, the service is good too.
I went there for lunch, I had grilled Squid and Monk fish, No regrets, The only negative thing would be the price, in the expensive side, still if I'm in the area I will pick it first each time.

Wonderful place. Wonderful food. Great wine list. Knowledgeable staff.
