jane's on the common is a small nieghbourhood restaurant at the northwest corner of the Halifax Common and known for friendly hospitality and fresh, made-from-scratch menus. Breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner menus all include vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free selections.
Established in 2003
Owner and manager Jane Wright started the 'upscale' diner in her neighbourhood as a 'midlife crisis' after a 20 year career in public policy and political research. Since it opened in 2003, the restaurant has continued to garner national and international attention as a destination for friendly service and fresh, made from scratch food.

This is the must-go place for Brunch in Halifax...arrive early there is always a line-up! Go wild and get a mimosa! Thanks Jane's, we'll be back!!!
Jane's is a rare gem. It's a tiny restaurant overlooking the Commons that serves high-end, high-quality food at fair prices.
Everyone I know who has eaten at Jane's has enjoyed their experience, even if it included waiting outside for a half an hour or more on a busy day. You should be prepared to wait, but it's worth it!
Jane's uses fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. They also put interesting spins on familiar dishes - one needn't look any further than their unique twist on a grilled cheese sandwich to realize how creative they are.
Brunch is to die for, you can't go wrong with lunch, and people sing the praises of the entrees. Dessert is yummy as well, and their wine list is small but effective, including some organic wines.
Do yourself a favour and get ye to Jane's soon. You won't regret it.

It's harder to find than heart-of-the-city spots, but if you come for weekend brunch just look for the line of locals who flock here for the creative comfort food like eggs Benedict served with smoked salmon on a sweet... more
Yummy yum yum yum!! I absolutely love going to Janes On The Common for brunch. Although I have to agree, it is kind of annoying to have to wait for a table, I think that their menu is definitely worth it. I always have a hard time deciding on what to order but have had great servers who know the menu and are not afraid to recommend their favorites - a huge plus for me!I love that Jane's uses... more
Lets talk about the BREAKFAST LAMB burger. This thing haunts me throughout the week. In fact purple now seems like beige after eating this masterpiece...The bar has been set high. You will not find a better breakfast burger or indeed a brunch special. Please join me in trying to convince the owner in making this a permanent addition to the menu.
We ate at Jane's On The Common last weekend and it was, as ever, a very good experience. I tried their seasonal special, beef tenderloin with seasonal veggies, followed by the pumpkin cheesecake ~ both were excellent.
I had started off with the local scallop starter, which came with a salad. The wine selection isn't vast, but the service and ambiance are both consistently good. Jane's never...
