I have never had a bad experience at Il Mercato. The staff is attentive and friendly, and the food is consistently delicious.
The prices are decent, especially for the quality of the food. It's not a place I can visit all the time, but it's nice to semi-splurge from time to time.
Their wine list is great, and their desserts are scrumptious, especially the gelato.
I do wish they had a lunch menu. They could really make a killing with their location if they had more affordable options during lunch.
Friendly service.
Food quality very good. I enjoyed a grilled vegetable salad which was very tasty and reasonably priced.
Only "cons" our dining party noticed was: the tables are very small and closely placed together. The overall sound barrier created almost an audible hum of voices..making it hard to hear or enjoy conversation in a packed resturant.
Pehaps, not as noticable had we gone at a less busy time- but, worth taking into consideration if going at peak hours.
Another leg in the daMaurizio Bish empire, this fun bistro features light-colored Tuscan sponged walls and big rustic terra-cotta tiles on the floor, which set an appropriate mood amid the clamor of Spring Garden. I like this place a lot. Come early or else expect to wait (no reservations are accepted). You'll find a great selection of meals at prices that approach bargain level. Start by... more
Liked the food - shrimp and bruschetta to start, salmon for me and lasagna for hubby was hot and good. Salmon tasted like it may have been frozen, but the portion was good and it wasn't overcooked. Dessert was cheesecake for both of us. All together with a bottle of wine the bill was $130ish plus tip. Would go there... more
The staff of the restaurant is very friendly and helpful. I had fish with potato which was tasty. My friend ordered seafood pasta. She mentioned that the quality of spagetti was not very good. Pricing of this restaurant is average for Halifax. May be a little bit costly for a student.
I do love this restaurant, I consider myself a regular. I go to the Bedford location & I usually go with girlfriends but I do also go with my partner. The food is always fantastic & they will tailor your entree to your specific needs. However, the last time I was there, I noticed that they no longer give you... more
My family and I visited the restuarant on June l9th to celeba=rate my sons graduation from Kimgs university. It was one of my sons favorite restaurants and my husband and I frequent often, but never again after this horrible experience we had that evening, first of there were 5 of us and we were seated at a table for four consequently being very crowded very uncomfortable, our appetizers came... more
We were extremely disappointed, this place was highly recommended by several close friends. (After this experience I may have to rethink what company I keep). Upon arrival we waited at the bar and the main pathway is behind it, it is extremely difficult to enjoy the atmosphere and your drink when people continually bump into the back of your chair because there is not enough space for them to... more
A good safe bet. Places that don't accept reservations irritate me, as they expect their clientele to take their chances. Consistently overcooked shrimp, but otherwise quite nice pastas, salads, and desserts (not as good as everyone claims). It seems to me this restaurant is trying really hard to exhibit trendiness, and it detracts a tad from their food. Of course as a Da Maurizio regular I may... more

Like its namesake, mercato (marketplace), this trattoria is always abuzz with animated conversation and laughter. Even before you've gotten your glass of Merlot, the servers give you a plate of glistening olive oil and a basket of bread. Your wine glass is topped off before you know it is empty. A large, beautifully kept display at the front of the restaurant offers a selection of antipasti.... more
Popular trattoria offering a top-notch casual European menu. Northern Italian dishes are the speciality, with exquisite pizza, pasta and sandwiches. The desserts alone are worth the visit.
