An intimate size and focus on local art and products helped this hotel earn raves as the "anti chain-hotel Toronto experience"—really, it's a sort of community event space, with artist-designed guest rooms and an emphasis on everything that is one-of-a-kind. The hand-operated 1904 elevator is one of three still working in Toronto. (Ask for assistance to take a ride in it.) Each room is a... more

Not All Those Who Wander are Lost

I'm certainly no Tolkien, but have just rediscovered the joy, sense of fun, and inspiration that wandering can unleash.
This lovingly and artfully restored hotel serves as a sanctuary, gallery, stage for artists of all kinds and interests.
Great coffee and tea are provided on each floor. Wonderful shops, galleries, restaurants, performance venues abound in the immediate vicinity.

I didn't eat at either of the resturants in the hotel because they were too expensive for my budget but they looked very nice.
Only a 14 dollar cab ride to the... more

We were in room 418, New Nouveau Room. It was at the back of the hotel and quiet. It was a Wednesday night, so not sure... more

This popular boutique hotel—in operation since 1889 but now thoroughly modern—is a hub for cultural events. Its third and fourth floors house gallery spaces that are open to the public and feature a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. Open daily.
