An intimate size and focus on local art and products helped this hotel earn raves as the "anti chain-hotel Toronto experience"—really, it's a sort of community event space, with artist-designed guest rooms and an emphasis on everything that is one-of-a-kind. The hand-operated 1904 elevator is one of three still working in Toronto. (Ask for assistance to take a ride in it.) Each room is a... more

Each guestroom has its own theme – from "Teen Queen" to an antiques motif to a sugarbush-inspired unit – and makes use of the hotel’s Victorian architecture while supplying modern amenities. Not All Those Who Wander are Lost
June 16, 2015

I'm certainly no Tolkien, but have just rediscovered the joy, sense of fun, and inspiration that wandering can unleash.
This lovingly and artfully restored hotel serves as a sanctuary, gallery, stage for artists of all kinds and interests.
Great coffee and tea are provided on each floor. Wonderful shops, galleries, restaurants, performance venues abound in the immediate vicinity.

Cool, hip vibe. The room was clean and comfortable & parking was only 25 a night right across the street (you park yourself there is no valet service).
I didn't eat at either of the resturants in the hotel because they were too expensive for my budget but they looked very nice.

We stayed at the Gladstone one night, was attending a sporting event at BMO. It was chosen because of the proximity, but I am happy we chose it. It was very different, unique, fun. Stayed here on my first trip to Toronto! Absolutely loved the hotel. It's really chic and is a really great neighborhood. I'd compare it to the Chelsea/West Village of NYC. Some great bakeries, gallows and dining options. There's also a metro stop right in front of the hotel for those brave enough to ride! I tried it. But it's as... more

Very unique, better for pleasure than business
June 16, 2015

I stayed here for 3 nights for a business trip. It was one of three recommendations our customer gave us and The Gladstone was definitely the least expensive of the three. Picked the Gladstone Hotel because it was near the venue for a conference. The hotel is in the arts neighborhood of Toronto on West Queen Street and the hotel open spaces, lobby, and all rooms are designed or decorated by local artists. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, it's a beautiful old hotel all tarted up with mod cons in the best possible taste, by people with a real sense of style. Nice enough
August 12, 2014

Stayed at the hotel overnight for a concert. Staff was exceptional and the hotel as a whole was immaculate. As it is a boutique hotel, rooms were rather small, but well kept. Our only issue was that the older hotel wasn't terribly soundproof and we were frequently woken by other guests who were arriving from the clubs shouting and singing. Probably better for a younger crowd.

Character hotel in Toronto's Designer District
July 09, 2014

This is one of only two hotels in this area of Queen St. West, called the Designer District. It took me a while to appreciate the hotel, as it seemed old at the beginning. Room was nice and in general the hotel is very good, although pricey. My main concern is about the noise. If there is a party on the ballroom, you will hear it without exception, regardless which room you are staying. Our waiter really knew the menu and dish ingredients. His recommendations were spot on. I like pizza with a thinner, crispier crust, but the flavor of our pie was outstanding. We also had a delicious redfish plate and 2 members of our group completely enjoyed the lasagna bolognese. The semifreddo dessert was a real treat.

Pizza was the only thing we didn't try and I'm sorry. We love John Besh and am amazed that the food was so poor. We each had something different (4 of us) and no one had something we liked. Waiter was very busy so he was rushed and difficult to find. Just thought he had too many tables.
