“The ultimate breakfast”

Harbour Diner
If Gordon Ramsay opened a breakfast/lunch restaurant, this would be it. Sensational food and an imaginative menu. Leave a big tip because the prices are too low. The eggs are works of art. The sausages and bacon are not the run of the mill kind. Their mussels are great and the seafood soup is "to die for". Great for dinner, too. This is a real find for the gourmet on a budget -- or even if you've got money to burn.

“Great selection of schnitzels”

Black Forest Inn
Excellent atmosphere for schnitzels. Lots of variety including cordon bleu, various Hungarian styles and Viennese styles. Very enjoyable if your waistline can handle it.

“Decent sushi”

Sushi Bay
This used to be my favourite until I discovered Sapporo. 'nuff said.

“Probably the best all you can eat sushi anywhere”

Sapporo Japanese Restaurant
Fantastic sushi, sashimi, etc. Huge portions but you feel guilty paying so little. Service is great and the staff -- unusual for a sushi place -- has a great sense of humour. Free parking if you can find a spot. I've had better sushi but never at an AYCE place. Enjoy!

“You can't go wrong”

Your Place Restaurant
Canadian cooking done very well. Nothing spectacular, just a decent place to get a good breakfast or lunch.

“You can't go wrong”

Crystal Dynasty Chinese Restaurant
Real, authentic Cantonese and ridiculously cheap. Three can dine on the dinner for two and still have food to take home. The Cantonese chow mein is a winner and for $5.00, you can't beat the General Tao chicken. It's addictive. The hot and sour soup is perfect. They also do a great dim sum early in the day. Probably the best Chinese food west of Toronto (in southern Ontario). If that wasn't enough, there's plenty of parking behind the place.

“Real country diner”

Butterball's Restaurant
This is a great place to stop for bacon & eggs and real diner food. The place hasn't been decorated for years but it's clean and the food is good. Service is kind of relaxed but friendly. Not bad if you want a toasted western. I come here quite often.

“Like the best of Montreal and Paris”

About Thyme Bistro
Come hungry because the appetizers are to die for. The charcouterie platter is better than any I've had in Paris and the duck breast is fantastic. Bring your own wine but make it a local one from Jordan, Vineland, Beamsville or Grimsby or you'll get stung extra in the corkage fees. The upside is that the best wineries in Niagara are in the neighbourhood. Servings are plentiful and the 3-course price fixe is only 29.00. You'll pay double that for this calibre of dining anywhere else.

“Real Greek restaurant”

Joe Feta's Greek Village
The egg and lemon soup was excellent. No complaints. The appetizers were great. Probably the best stuffed vine leaves I've ever had. So Greek you want to smash the dishes. Very enjoyable and fun.

“Loved the corned beef”

Angels Diner
This is probably the only place in the area where you can get a Montreal corned beef. They also do a nice job on liver. Reasonably priced. The place looks like a 50's Americana diner. Great soups. Very enjoyable.

“Typical pub”

Feathery Pub
The helpings are generous. The place is big and clean. Not too noisy. Friendly. Enjoyed the Yorkie but it can't be good for you with all that mashed potato and gravy. But what the hell, whatever beer you heart desires is available including some rare finds.

“Love the uncle burger”

A & W Restaurant Lake Street
What can you say about a hamburger joint but of all the chains, I prefer their burgers even over Licks.

“Probably the best fish & chips in the region”

Joey's Only Seafood Restaurant
They had me at 2 for 1 on Saturdays but the fish was great. Their basic fish is Pollock but you can get Halibut, Cod, Sole, etc. It's the chips that really get you. Crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. Way underpriced and the waitresses are super friendly.

“Gourmet quality breakfast/lunch”

Bleu Turtle The
I had lamb soup and lamb sausages the last time I was there. Excellent eggs benedict the time before. You can't go wrong. They even make their own bread. It's chef owned and he's highly qualified. Reasonably priced. Definitely a find.

Smiling Fish The
Friends recommended the Smiling Fish. Nothing to write home about. Mediocre fish and ships.

“Dependable Italian eatery”

Fresco's Euro Grill and Bar
Not great but very good Italian style restaurant. The pizza was not impressive but the rest of the menu is worth a try. They have specials like prime rib every week.

“All you can eat, but great food”

East Fusion Asian Cuisine
Is it the best sushi? Probably not but it's pretty damn good and there's no limit. Service is friendly and the waitresses keep asking if you want more. The seaweed salad is great and the sushi is expertly made. Some of it is very imaginative. Nothing to complain about. I eat here often.
