Best food, great service, fantastic overall experience
"Inspirational", "mind-blowing" Japanese dishes with "intense flavours" "live up to the hype" at "legendary" chef-owner Hidekazu Tojo's "world-class" Fairview spot where acolytes "sit at the sushi bar" to watch the "master himself" "carve away like a surgeon" and deliver omakase meals that make devotees cry "omagoodness"; "efficient" servers and a casually elegant space help lessen the pain of... more
Tojo's is considered Vancouver's top Japanese restaurant, the place where celebs and food cognoscenti come to dine on the best sushi in town. It's expensive, but the food is absolutely fresh, inventive, and boy is it good. The dining room's main area wraps around Chef Tojo (who invented the California and BC rolls) and his sushi chefs with a giant curved maple sake bar and an adjoining sushi... more
Hands-down the best sushi restaurant in Vancouver, Tojo's (named for owner/chef Hidekazu Tojo, known here as "Tojo-san") occupies a misleadingly industrial-looking space. The stark blue walls, warehouse-high ceilings, and enormous open kitchen are almost antithetical to the delicate, meltingly subtle dishes served here. The menu of sushi rolls includes some deliciously local variations: The... more
Absolutely terrible. I would give it 0 stars if that were possible.
After reading so many incredible reviews about this place, I decided to check it out for myself. I understood that this was a fine dining restaurant, and the prices surely reflected that.

Being a regular viewer of the Travel Channel, this restaurant instantly is one on my list as things to do/try while in Vancouver BC.
It looks like a small spot on the outside having just a regular push/pull glass door but once you get inside, you will be greeted by classy interiors and friendly staff.
We easily spotted Mr. Tojo himself at the sushi bar who graciously posed for a photo op with...

We visited Tojo's as part of our long quest for the best sushi in Canada. Needless to say... we've eaten a lot of sushi (including Tokyo)
This is an elegant high end restaurant, so be prepared to pay the steep entry price. This beautiful celebration of highly experienced skill, it is an art. If budget is a concern save Tojo's for a special occasion, many will only do once. Remember the...

Terrible bad and expensive experience..It is not worth it
Absolutely amazing food. Very creative. A 100% unique experience. Matsuhisa isn't even in the same league. I travel from LA to eat here. Delish!
Japanese, Where to Dine Awards since 2011. Best Upscale Japanese,
magazine 2006-2013. Tojo’s Great Canadian roll introduces fresh Atlantic lobster to house-smoked Pacific salmon. Other specialties include deep fried stuffed shiitake mushrooms and baked Canadian sablefish. $$-$$$. D (M-Sa).
Tojo's Restaurant offers these services: restaurant, grocery store.
The most remarkable thing about Tojo's Japanese restaurant is that people have been known to make pilgrimages from far corners of the globe to savor its offerings. Vancouver is known for its sushi obsession, and this particular purveyor is internationally renowned. Make reservations for the bar and watch the artist Tojo at work. The Omakase, or Chef's Arrangement, is a popular option. The... more
