History
Established in 1939
Some of Canada's most unique features are the majestic railway hotels that were built across the country by the Canadian Pacific and the Canadian National Railways. For their time, these hotels were miracles of construction and engineering. Everything that went into them was the biggest and best of their time and they...

With a prime downtown Vancouver location and stately architecture, The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is known as ‘The Castle in the City’. The hotel is steps from Vancouver’s business, shopping and theatre
It's wonderful to have such a historic institution as the old "Hotel Vancouver" but it's looking a little tired in some of the rooms and it's horrendously expensive. Very well located though.
This hotel used to be loved. I would totally stay away from it. The shower was icecold, the bed soft, and the rates ridiclous in this time of recession. Plus they have a fur store in the lobby seliing dead rabbits! STAY AWAY! Lost in another world, another time.
A landmark in the city since Queen Elizabeth first opened the property in 1939, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has been brought up to 21st-century standards but retains its traditional, old-fashioned elegance -- such as the glass-fronted mail chute that runs through every floor and trunk-sized closets. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and comfortable. The bathrooms (with tub/shower combinations)... more
There's been a grand château-style hotel on this spot since 1888, when the Canadian Pacific Railway opened the first Hotel Vancouver. The hotel's current incarnation, with its peaked copper roof, opened in 1939 for the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and is one of the city's most striking landmarks. The 556 rooms and suites are decorated with old-school elegance: lots of... more
Opened by the Queen in 1939 and still grand and glittering through incarnations and generations, the Hotel Vancouver is nothing short of a talisman in the skyline. Steeped in tradition, from the elegant port-coch è re entrance to formal high tea served in the richly paneled 900 West lobby lounge amid the tinkling of grand piano, swish Fairmont service fits the near-hallowed halls of this... more
I stayed 4 nights and attended 3 days of meetings held in the hotel. The staff were all so professional and courteous. My room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The lobby bar was inviting, relaxing and classy. The location is ideal, close to restaurants and shopping. Overall a positive experience in a landmark hotel, I would definitely return!
The Fairmont is a terrific place to stay in Vancouver. The rooms and service and excellent. The staff in the concierge were very helpful, helping me get exactly what I needed. The rooms are well kept, and the stay was delightful.
The rooms are a fair size. The bed was clean and all of our linen was stain free. The mirror was very spotty and the toilet had not been cleaned. There was urine around the base and the hinges. The bowl had temporary brown marks.
The hotel was very quiet and the health club was clean. The lady who checked...
