We have a 2006 Subaru Forrester XT (Turbo). Six months ago, we had an issue with the one of the two air takes in the engine. The repairs at Richmond Subaru were done and covered by the 3 year warranty. Just two weeks ago, the car had another engine light come on and we took it back to Richmond Subaru. They indicated that it was now the other air take that needed to be replaced. They quoted a $900 fee (400 for the part the other air intake and 500 for service) and because our warranty had run out they wanted to charge us. I was fuming mad.

I took the car back and went to Sho at Tekam Auto for a second opinion. Sho was astonished that our car was not going to be covered by Subaru (Our car only has 26000 Kms ). Sho took his own time and phoned one of his contacts at North Vancouver Subaru. Steve, the service manager, a great guy, had encountered similar air intake issues with the Subaru Turbo engine with three other clients. Sho and Steve felt obligated to ensure the integrity of the Subaru product. As a result, Steve was able to obtain authorization from Subaru Canada to cover the cost of the repair and part. Sho called me and gave me the good news.

However, I realized that Sho was doing all of this for free! And passing along the business to Steve. Sho, a mechanic, has showed me to trust mechanics again due to his integrity and his honour. I felt obligated to write this post. From now on, I am bringing all my cars and relatives car to Sho for servicing.
