Beware extra fees

I bought a Groupon deal that included 2 haircuts and styles, 2 colourings, and 2 hot oil treatments for $29. Great price right? Wrong. NOTHING was included for $29. My hair is longer than my shoulders, so I always expect an extra fee for longer hair. However, they wanted to charge me $60 extra for about 4 inches of hair beyond my shoulder. I negotiated the long-hair fee down to $20. They washed my hair, cut it, and then began putting mousse into it. I asked when the hot oil treatment was going to be done, to which they brushed off the question, saying "they did it quickly while your hair was being washed." I know what a hot oil treatment is, and it definitely wasn't done.

I have ombre hair colouring (darker roots, lighter ends.) We decided not to dye the ends lighter as it would damage my already bleached hair. This was fine, however my deal did include colour. I asked if the colour could be used to only dye my dark roots, and the stylist (Ernie) told me no because the colour portion of my voucher only applies to full colouring. This made no sense at all, as doing my roots uses much less hair dye than a full head would. On top of that, the cost to dye my full head would be an additional $120. It seemed as though they were just adding extra fees on top of extra fees.

The clientele was a much older crowd. The only two young people in the salon (myself and another girl) were using Groupon deals. Everyone else was over 50 years old. In the end, I paid $49 for a choppy, mediocre hair cut, with no colour or hot oil treatment. Even though my voucher included two visits, I would never go back.

I read another review that stated that they charged a customer taxes on the full amount of the service (not the Groupon deal price.) This is NOT the proper way to charge taxes. They didn't do this to me luckily, but it is yet another fee to watch out for.

It's a SCAM

I bought a voucher for $39 which included wash, cut, deep conditioning, style & your choice of full color or full highlights including a pedicure and manicure. I got there for my 1pm appointment, the lady who greeted me seem nice at first, but when she found out I had a voucher her attitude changed towards me. She then told me that I would have to wait QUITE a while because they are very busy. I asked why book me in then? Her reply with a little attitude was "We never know what are clients want until they get here". So when I booked my appointment, why did they ask me what I wanted done to my hair? I told them wash, cut, style and just a few highlights on top of my head. Remember they were offering a full set of highlights with this voucher, so why tell me that for just a few highlights would cost me an extra $30? Why offer one thing and once there it's another? They wasted my time and money. Finally there was this nice lady sitting there and she also had bought a voucher on line. I asked her how long she had been waiting and she told me about an hour. She then thought she was going to be next to be seen but a regular client of the salon came in and was taken right away. She then approached the hairdresser and asked him why she wasn't going next and he replied that this client was a regular and that he had no choice to take her first. HOW RUDE...Also, you see regarding the pedicure and manicure that they offered with the voucher for an extra $10, it's false advertisement. Why offer something that your salon doesn't do?

Scam artist - using the deal vehicles

Ruffles is a scam, run by this old lady and two of her over the hill stylist. Brought the deal for $29 from Buytopia ... when they say a deal is too good to be true, that is exactly right. The deal included, hair cut, highlight, mani+pedi.

Description of the place: One room hair salon with a rolling manicurist table - no other supplies or equipements for pedicure. Basically this is only a hair salon but in order to increase sales, she has been advertizing through these deals sites - as having the facilities.

Her scam: People see this fantastic deal, offering so much more than other vendors. The scam begins when you get there - she will convince, pressure, be little you, while you are sitting in the chair to say that you need other services, otherwise the highlight will not work. Or you current hair cut is ruined, she needs to fix it, etc. etc. etc. Basically you need to take services that are NOT part of the deal - at the end you will end up paying some where between $50 - $60 additional. The salon is a neighborhood salon and you have lot of senior citizens walking in, who are also her aquintainces ... thus be prepared to wait around, while she tends to them first. This also gave me an opportunity to see others coming in with the same deals. Exactly the same treatment as me - they needed to do other things, meaning spend more. So hypothetically if she had 100 people buying the deal and each person on an average was made to pay $50 more - she actually made $5,000 extra and this is the SCAM.

Also not to mention I never received any mani+pedi service as she said the person is not there, so she gave a handwritten sort of IOU note. After being taken on this extra $60 ride - I decided to never return there. Plus she does not even have a pedicure chair!!! My experience is from April 2012 but I am writing the review now, as my sister almost brought this deal from another site. So I felt the need to warn you future purchasers.

If you really want to know about ruffles - then check this site out and see how many people have had the same experiences.

Stay far away from this place
October 05, 2011

I have never had such poor dealings with an establishment as I have with Stratique. The place itself is cheap. The decor, well there isn't any. If I could describe it I would imagine it would be simulator to an illegal massage parlor. This is unfortunate, however, the true problem lies with the people providing a service. The reception is rude and let me be clear on experience they have NO... more
