I have been training at the York Academy of Martial Arts for over 15 years! Great place to improve mind, body and spirit. This place is great because it focuses on personal growth as well as physical development. I did not only learn Karate, I also learned how to set goals and achieve them in my personal life. My life is in the "right" track because of the York Academy of Martial Arts, it would not have been the same without it.

By far the best Sensei and dojo for traditional Go Ju Ryu Karate. I was a student as a child and when I moved back to Toronto I looked for Sensei Verlaan right away because he is one of the highest dan's available in North America and among the highest quality of karate teachers possible. My 5 year old daughter does lessons here on Friday evenings. I was a little wary to begin with as her other classes (ballet and swimming) have only been half an hour and I wasn't sure if a whole hour at the end of the school week would be too much for her.
