This really is a great tavern, tavern being the operative word. The ambiance and atmosphere are perfect. The place is loud and noisy and often very full. But the food, especially the snacks are great, even though the service is a bit slow.
Went to this restaurant a few times in the summer of 2011 I sent in Ottawa. It's in a good location and has average food and service. If you go during a slow time, the service is pretty good but they don't handle crowds well. It's old and lives up to its name. Went here on a first date, with... more
I ordered the burger with mushrooms and swiss and if not for the condiments its a pretty blah burger. On the other hand the clubhouse was excellent. Fries were good. Both our glasses had lipstick on them which guaranteed free pop and free dessert !! :)
went with a friend for a quick bite...i ordered nachos...if you wanted beef or chicken it was an extra $4.95...so i ordered beef.
well....i got ripped off on the beef...they put a 1/4cups worth. The beef was so small that we could hardly see it on the plate...there was no guacamole...the cheese was hardly melted...it was tasty but not to...

Turned up with a small group looking for a nice place for supper as advised by our Hotel......big mistake.....nobody wanted to greet us let alone seat us let alone give us a menu let alone.....actually let alone do anything.....servers were rude, abrasive and did not make for a fun tile, when food did arrive it was basically thrown at us... more
I used to go to this restaurant 30 years ago. We were in Ottawa and happened to pass by. I wanted to revive my memories but read the bad reviews and was hesitant. We went anyway. I had sausage and penne pasta. He had pepper corn chicken. We both enjoyed our meal. Very good portions. Lovely waitress. Quick service. It... more
I went there today with my coworkers to celebrate a Christmas Lunch. The restaurant is very nice, the decor and ambience was above average. Our server was friendly, smart, quick, but not intrusive. We all ordered the same club sandwhich and it was excellent. This will be our 'go to' venue from now on. I highly recommend. I saw the... more
My spouse and I will never step foot into the Centertown Tavern ever again, and neither should you!! Why, well let me tell you! I use an electric wheelchair to get around and I also have a small service dog...this disgrace of an establishment and its sorry excuse for a manager denied us access, which btw is against the law! The manager said that my service dog looked more like a lap dog to him... more
This was by far the worst experience I've had in a restaurant, probably anywhere on the planet. This place is very well located in the business disctrict on a street that hosts events like ribfest, caribean festival and for the purpose of this review, the Poutine fest. Thousands of people line up at chip wagons to get a Poutine, so... more
Sat in the Centretown Tavern section. The food was good, but the a bit overpriced drinks. The waitress was extremely slow, did't get menus until 30 minutes after we sat down, and once we order it took forever.
Simple, rather bland. I would expect more for this price level if this wasn't Ottawa.
Went here while there was a demo of cars and music. This was a great stop. The food is reasonably priced and the staff proficient but very busy.
We had lunch there on August 3, Saturday. We ordered appetizers and main course at the same time. It took almost 45 minutes for both to be served to us. Probably because of the street fest on Sparks Street thus with many patrons especially on the patio. But inside was not even half full so there was no excuse for... more
Yesterdays was a great place years ago but other than good hot chocolate after winterfest there are many more interesting and gastronomically engaging places to try.
Just average.
Lots of the typical selection, most everything from a box.
Fine if you don't expect much.
More 3 1/2 really but I err on the generous side for the nice server. We needed a quick lunch and found this street restaurant to enjoy the welcome sunshine. Some traffic did get in to Sparks St as preparations for Canada Day were under way so it wasn't quite so good with noise and fumes - not the restaurant's... more
A very aptly named eatery. Everything about this restaurant smacks of 1982: the decor, the music (a good mix of '80's pop, to their credit), and - unfortunately - the food. To be fair, the wilted, velvety romaine in my Caesar salad appeared to be only yesterday's, the beef in my father's burger hailed from last week. The taco salad... more
Average food, average decor, slightly over priced for the quality and the service was less stellar.
We were looking for something simple with lots of food options (and local beer). Yesterday's provided delicious food, at an excellent value, and I got my bottle of 'local' beer - barking squirrel (from TO). :) Our waiter was exceptional...very patient with my friend who could never make up her mind about what she wanted to eat. :P Overall great... more
We ate twice in this restaurant and felt happy with the quality of the food and service. A small criticism is the food was a bit bland, but that worked out well for a member of my family who is unable to eat anything spicy!
Located smack dab on Sparks Street, it was a nice surprise and refuge from the weather on an overcast and cold Remembrance Day. Considering they were very busy for lunch, it helped make for very fresh food. Great quick service with a smile. I had the basic bacon cheeseburger platter but all was hot n fresh. Others ordered chicken pasta,... more
On Sparks Street in the tourist area just south of the Parliament buildings. Food was average to good and the service was good. I'm sure the chicken in the mediterranean chicken dish was precooked as the food came out way too quickly to have been freshly cooked. Still it was pretty good.
Not too impressed. Looked promising from the outside, but seemed lacking a good atmosphere inside. Service was subpar. Waiter forget to make food adjustments as asked for. Would not good back.
Well, never going back to Centretown Tavern (attached to Yesterday's on Sparks). Asked them to modify their salad/wrap to be vegan-friendly and the server wouldn't even ask the kitchen, stating "they definitely won't do that..." They then informed me that they pre-mix parmesan into the bruschetta I ordered and couldn't make some without, so I ended up having a Greek salad sans feta. Surprised... more
We had 15 kids and 20 adults, waiting staff were very good and were able to keep the bills matched between kids and parents all though the kids were all at a seperate table. I had the lasagna, very tasty and a large portion
Given many of the restaurants we discovered in proximity to our hotel were closed, we discovered Yesterday's. It is a large restaurant, and was empty!
The restaurant's decor is tired and dated, which matches the irritating elevator music which is loudly played. We hoped the food would not match the decor. My wife had the Philly cheese Steak which she...

Worst meal ever. Should have read the reviews before instead of after. Absolutely blows my mind how this place is still in business. Waitress saw I didn't eat any of my overlooked generic soggy white pasta bowtie pasta with "Parmesan" from a shaker, and didn't bother to ask how the food was. Of course, I now know why they don't ask... They already know its beyond bad. Have never written a... more
First time in Ottawa, we were looking for a place to have dinner and we found this restaurant. The service was excellent and the quality of the food as well. The portions were very good, We ordered Fettuccine with Chicken, a Canadian Pizza and a Three Cheese pasta, It was delicious !!!!
Looks a bit tired from the outside but the food was good. My crispy chicken salad was fresh and tasty and my husbands pizza had a crispy base and a good amount of toppings. It's a popular lunch spot with downtown workers, no frills just good food.
The restaurant is split into two parts both served with the same menu. I prefer sitting in the Centretown Tavern section which was renovated a couple of years ago and is much fresher and more comfortable. There is also a sizeable patio section on Sparks Street during the warmer months.
The food is so so. The quesadiilas and pizza are...

From the outside this restaurant looks a little dated and rundown, but my daughter wanted a meal with French fries, so we went in with very limited expectations. I must admit we were pleasantly surprised by the food. Reasonable presentation and tasty.
Went here with 3 other people on our trip to Ottawa as there was not much in the area and my in laws can't walk around too much. Ordered our food; my in laws side salads had some brown lettuce in it and limp vegetables; when they informed the waitress of this she said, "Yeah, it can get like that... more
Our waiter/staff member gave us first class service: reheated my coffee when I forgot about it, customised my meals to my taste (no mayo etc), suggested drinks that I didn't consider, even moved a table next to us so we could have more desk space for our meals.
The steak I ordered was cooked as requested (well done) the fries...

We were on our way to see Mosaika, and were looking for a convenient, quick place to eat. And it was quick, and convenient, but the food was average at best: I had a chicken quesadilla. It was bland; lots of chicken and cheese, really lacking in peppers and onions. It was 14.99 and came with nothing but tiny containers... more
We recently visited this place on a trp to Ottawa. There aren't many dining options on Sparks St., surprisingly since it is an important tourist area. We ended up at this same restaurant on a visit 11 years ago, and there were few restaurants then as well. The inside is dingy--we know this because we sat looking around for an... more
Waitress unfriendly. I asked her for water with lemon. No lemon came.
I took my clients to this restaurant the first week in August. The menu offered the typical family restaurant fare at reasonable enough pricing. I would recommend it to friends and customers alike.
Not bad. Had the Italian Sausage Penne, which was fairly good. Nothing wrong with the service. Kids portions are massive. Overall a good experience. There are not many other options downtown.

Not a great restaurant to eat at. A friend of mine and I had lunch there today, and it wasn't good. I ordered meat sauced spaghetti and my friend ordered a chicken quesadia. My spaghetti did not have enough sauce to cover the noodles, the sauce was not seasoned properly and the noodles were soggy. When I requested more sauce, I was told that there would be an additional charge. After the...

We were able to sit outdoors and enjoy the lovely weather while having lunch at Yesterdays. Our service was perfectly fine and the food was good.
Our opinion starts out on the wrong side as we are sat right beside the server station on the outside patio. Right beside where every used dish is thrown into a bin, cutlery is thrown into another and the servers have plenty of time to stand around a talk so with all this noise it made our lunch time conversation... more
Have been here a few times for lunch. Always good and the service is done right. Lunchtime is quite busy but the food always arrives in a timely fashion. It is a good value for the dollar
This place has a captive market due to its location, and even more so on a Sunday afternoon in November, when downtown Ottawa is pretty much empty. That said, I wish we had made the effort to walk over to the market instead of stopping at Yesterday's.
The restaurant was all but empty when we arrived, yet the waitress seemed...

Lunch consisted of my first Poutine. Bases on a sample I'd one, it was fine. Others, from Quebec, assured me it was average. However, given the bad reviews, on balance I found the lunch time experience quite ok. 5.1 out of 7.99
I've consulted with some of my colleagues, and it wasn't just my experience here that was awful. The sandwich I had was gross, and the fries my sister ordered were cold and soggy. Didn't even know what was in half of the food, and veggies were wilted and obviously no care was put into the food. Service was snippy and... more
I attended Yesterday's this past weekend with a group of 11 other adults. The patio was packed but inside the restaurant was a ghost town. We should have known when they balked at the number that it was a bad idea to stay. The service was slow, bar ordered drinks arrived after the food which took forvever. When the food did arrive dishes were either burnt, nachos and bun, or cold - poutine and... more
The fries were the best I've had in a while. Not overly salted or too crisp. My vegetarian wrap-which I added chicken to- was pretty tasty, though a bit onion-heavy. Have a jumbo-sized cocktail.
I have eaten at alot of restaurants where the service or food quality wasn't great and I generally don't complain but when they are both horrible I can't help it.
We went to this restaurant on a Thursday night during the Buskerfest in Ottawa with my girlfriend and three kids. We ordered some pretty basic things. The kids ordered chicken...

Deffenetly will not come back. You only get ice if you order a soft drink, so the water is warm. There only side option is fries. My friend ordered the Penne pasta an they informed her 15 mins after she ordered that they ran out of the sauce so she asked for Alfredo an he came back and said that they are also out so she got stuck with a boring tomato soft.
2nd visit: This time we went with friends. They have a nice menu, good prices and pleasant service. Typical Deli atmosphere.
Winterlude or not, the inability of the kitchen to prepare nachos, french onion soup and a burger in under an hour is ghastly. Our waitstaff was apologetic and compensatory, but damn! I should have ordered a pizza from my hotel room. Yesterday's in Ottawa is to be avoided.
I really enjoyed my dinner here. Friendly service with a smile. Desert could have been a bit nicer. But over all it was quite enjoyable.
Went in here after we had looked for a place to eat and it started to rain. It seemed very quiet but we had a look at the menu and prices were good so we went in.
Service was good, very friendly and attentive and we were given time to look at the menu. Ordered two adult meals and one...

This place sucks. It's got a great location a block south of Parliament Hill, they don't hold back on the A/C -- important in humid Ottawa summers, and it's got lots of seating.

Today we decided to treat ourselves to lunch at Yesterdays- and what a mistake that was!
I needed a quick dinner to I went to the Tavern side. the decor was nice, but the same menu as yesterdays. The pizza was ok. The service was terrible. Someone need to organize the staff. Can't understand how they can still be in business.
Service was below average. The server did not ask how our meals were, if she did she would have heard that we did not get what we ordered and the quality of what we did get was bad. Ordered wings with medium sauce and got honey garlic. I had the chicken Philly which is a chicken breast on a hamburger bun. The moisture of the chicken made the bun soggy and fall apart before my first bite. Spend... more

the place was great, food was excellent, the kids liked it too and the server was very nice and helpful also. I'm totally surprised about all the other bad reviews I just noticed, maybe they fixed their issues.
Yesterday's is an OK place to have lunch downtown.
Between waiting 40 minutes for a gross french onion soup, an hour and a quarter for COLD food, and a manager who was too afraid to apologise for the terrible service, our Yesterday's experience was terrible. As a result of their inappropriate delays (the restaurant was NOT busy), we missed our tour that was scheduled for 2 hours after we arrived at the restaurant. As a customer service... more
