The Waverley is adorned in high Victorian style, as befits its 1866 provenance. Flamboyant playwright Oscar Wilde was a guest here in 1882, and perhaps he had a hand in the decorating scheme? There's walnut trim, red upholstered furniture, and portraits of sourpuss Victorians at every turn. Headboards in the guest rooms are especially elaborate -- some look like props from Gothic horror movies.... more

Great Night in downtown Halifax
October 13, 2014

Went to Halifax for the night for our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed the Grafton Street Dinner theatre and walked from the Inn, it took about 15 mins. FREE parking as well. After we checked into the Inn we walked to the waterfront and market and stopped into a number of places.

A let down....
August 27, 2014

We stayed for 4 nights during a university tour of Nova Scotia and were extremely disappointed with the Inn. We would have relocated but there was little else available during the busy summer season. The rooms are crowded with bulky antiques and not terribly comfortable and not terribly clean - there were a lot of cob webs hanging from the ceiling of our second room. Breakfast was very mundane.... more

The Waverley Inn is ideally suited to elderly people who are nostalgic. Moderately priced, very comfortable and relaxing, it has a lovely parlour where one can converse with other travelers who have a little free time. Their spacious breakfast room is a great way to start each day. The inn's staff are very attentive and will do anything to please. All of which means that the Waverley is better... more

we have always loved staying at this hotel because we can park (free parking!) and walk every where, which is a real plus... stroll the boardwalk or up Spring Garden Road to the Public Gardens... this last trip however the full hot breakfast was not quite as sumptuous as in previous times, and I especially missed that bowl of cut fruit

Good location, within walking distance from most downtown sites and lots of good restaurants. This is a good hotel for someone who doesn't plan on spending much time at the hotel, just looking for a place to crash for the night. The bed wasn't very comfortable. July 14, 2014

A unique building with equally unique rooms and furniture. We loved the Victorian atmosphere. The Inn does not have some conveniences eg: stand alone a/c unit was a bit noisy and there are is no elevator but if you want that go to the sheraton. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Rooms were a bit small but they were laid out in the 1880's

Stayed here on our honeymoon and we thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The room was small but very clean and unique. All the staff seemed friendly and approachable. The breakfast was good, but my only complaint was that they didn't replenish the beans so every time we went for breakfast we never got any of the beans! Also the fruit salad... more

Lovely Find
October 04, 2013

This inn was larger than we expected. 34 rooms. But it was run like a small B&B. Our room.123,was large and comfortable. The front desk was extremely polite and helpful. The location is great never using our car and walking everywhere...harbor area, dinners, sightseeing. Breakfast was more than adequate . Would stay here again.

Great value in downtown Halifax
September 30, 2013

Great place to stay in Halifax! My husband and I were looking for a reasonable place to stay that was within walking distance to all the attractions in Halifax. We lucked out with the Waverly Inn! Not only was it super clean, it offered some great amenities - such as free parking and free breakfast!
I loved the teas and... more

September 28, 2013

The hotel is only 5min. from the railway station, close to the ,restaurants, ideal. Full of old world charm. Our bedroom was very large, the furniture was in style with the rest of the building. Tea and coffee available free 24 hours. Ample free parking. The staff are very helpful, give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Nice, clean room, friendly staff and great location
September 23, 2013

Waverly Inn was a nice hotel with plenty of open parking spaces, located quite close to the boardwalk along the harbour front. Our room was nice and cosy though the washroom was quite small. Tea, coffee and biscuits were available 24 hours on the hall near the reception and I thought that was a nice touch. It meant you didn’t... more

Absolutely Delightful
September 23, 2013

I chose the Waverley Inn for the convenience of the location. It is a block and a bit from the train station, so the Via Rail access couldn't be better. What a wonderful experience to find this charming hotel filled with character and good service. There are wonderful pieces of antique furniture everywhere. My guest room, though smallish, offered charm... more

Victorian Charm
September 17, 2013

We spent two nights at the Waverley. What a wonderful start to our Canadian trip. We were enchanted when we saw our beautiful room. Victorian but with central heating & modern bathroom. Poor night's sleep
September 08, 2013

Our short stay at the beautifully appointed Waverley Inn was spoiled by a frequent but inconsistent rhythmic drip of rainwater onto the aircon box outside our window, which kept us awake all night. The tinny sound of water on metal was clearly heard (despite closing window) all night. When we were asked at checkout time if our stay was ok,... more

Lovely place for last minute booking
September 05, 2013

For a last minute reservation, Waverley Inn was a great find. Its location makes it easy access to down-town everything. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Walking up three flights was a bit unpleasant but the trick is to carry as little luggage as possible - just the absolutely necessary. I'll know next time ! Free parking was a... more

Gorgeous place
September 01, 2013

To say the Waverley Inn is beautiful would be an understatement. There is nothing I would change about this place. A great location right downtown, clean, friendly service, gorgeous stately rooms. Our room was large and spacious, free wifi, and all the amenities you could ask for.
I would highly recommend it for anyone coming to halifax!

A gem in the central part of Halifax
August 30, 2013

The fluffy beds with their gigantic pillows and duvets are worth the cost alone. But when you add this in to the price, the beautifully maintained building and the friendly service this is a steal compared to local hotels.
