I recently bought a groupon but with so many bad reviews coming out, I was nervous to come here for dinner. As I walked in with my friend, we were the only people there at 5:30. Then I met the server of the evening, a girl whom we knew from school. Thus, she was incredibly nice and friendly. We went on to have a lovely meal of beauty rolls, robata, dobin mushi, and seafood yakisoba. I can't say... more
I would suggest to go when they are not too busy so you can really take in the lovely decor and atmosphere of the quaint little place. When there are not too many people, parking is ample... more
This is the worst run restaurant I have ever experienced! We decided to use our Groupon and came well before the end of lunch at 2 (lunch ends at 3). When we entered, the server asked us if we could come back in 1-1.5 hrs as they only had one chef that day and were too busy. I said, well isn't lunch over then? So she asked if we had the Groupon she said, let me talk to my manager. After... more
We should have known - as soon as we entered the restaurant Saturday at lunch time there were several people seated, none of the guests were eating, no one was smiling, all were glancing at the kitchen. We had the groupon so we took a seat by the bar. When we presented the groupon, we were given the "regular" menu with inflated prices. Salmon nigiri, which is usually $1.50 everywhere else was... more
This has got to be THE WORST restuarant ever! I'm not a picky person but when you order a bento box as depicted in the menu, and the waiter hastily runs up to your table with a tray full of loose dishes, you have to wonder if they even care about presenation which is basic when it comes to a Japenese Resturant. After we sorted through the loose array of dishes mishaply thrown at us, we realized... more
Worse Japanese food I've ever eaten. The sushi rice was hard and the chopped scallop rolls did not have any creamy taste. The nabeyaki udon was bland. The tuna sashimi had chewy strings in it. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of better Japanese restaurants in Richmond.
I brought a Groupon for two noodle sets at Watami recently and my boyfriend, K, and I decided to redeem it this past weekend. K and I were waiting for at least 5 minutes before we were seated. The restaurant was not even half full during this weekend lunch time hour, but I think the restaurant was totally understaffed. There was one lady who seated, cleaned tables, set tables, took orders,... more

If you think you got a good deal on their Groupon promo, think again. Used my groupon for 2 noodle sets and guess what ? They gave us 2 HALF orders : 1/2 bowl soba & 1/2 bowl chirashi. This place is a RIP OFF.
Worst sushi I ever hand...and it's over priced
Used to come here for moderately priced and moderately tasting food, but came here today for quite the surprise. Suddenly, their menu has become more "up-scale", meaning a raise in prices, and a few foods omitted. Fine, that's tolerable, as I expected the raise in prices meant a rise in quality. My boyfriend and i ordered a katsu curry don, chopped scallop roll and a zaru soba. Chopped scallop... more
Watami is located in the same strip mall as Shanghai Wonderful , in replacement of the old Tokyo Ichiban. I think it's run by Japanese owners since the chefs were speaking Japanese to... more
Too expensive, portions extremely small, not testy at all. Waste of money, time and "stomach".Nice interior design by the way.
We go there today because it is so close to Lansdowne mall. We are craving for some sockeye sashimi and unagi sushi. We ordered the sashimi, and the portion is generous. The waitress recommended us Beauty Roll over unagi sushi, and it was a great surprise! It is very beautiful first of all, and it taste super! There is salmon ane tuna sashimi inside the roll and the unagi that we crave on top.... more
I've been going to this place since before it was Watami Sushi and I go to Japanese restaurants a lot.I went to Watami the first time a few months ago and since then have returned quite a few times. The food from the kitchen has so far always been great. Highly recommend the Ebi Tama Don and Seafood Udon. The sushi is okay. I haven't yet tried their sashimi, but their rolls could use... more
Excellent service by Naho, superb food at reasonable price
Watami has become my regular sport for lunch during breaks. At first, the food was underwhelming and generally uninspired. However, it definitely has grown on me and their quality is improving. I remember my first batch of tempura was unappetizing and looked strange. Nowadays, it the presentation is much better. Most of their dishes are common among Japanese restaurants but i find that Watami's... more
A friend advised me to try out Watami. I was enlightened with good news about how great their head chef kenji-san was: who had migrated over from TG's restaurant. When i first walked into the restaurant, the layout and design was quite nice, very vibrant wall colours. I was seated and had been given two different menus. One menu was just a regular menu with a bunch of regular items you would... more
The interior decor was quite nice...simple and comforting. The service...well...not so assertive and prompt...empty dishes were left on our table for about ten minutes...while all the... more
