I can't say I agree with a lot of the other reviews. The pasta is amazing! Not usually what I order at a Greek restaurant but it was fantastic!! They offer eat in as well as take out. Cute and cozy atmosphere, great date night spot! The waitresses were very engaging and the owner was very nice. Will definitely be back!
I would give this restaurant a -10 star if I could. Not only was the food very mediocre, the attitude of the restaurant servers and the owner was beyond despicable. We came here for a holiday party and were in a rush to leave so did not get a copy of our bill for expenses. We came back later to have another meal and get that copy, but the waitress absolutely refused and said she could not find... more
Worst customer service Greek Restaurant in town. Do not bother. Owner was rude to customers.
Made reservations for a work group party and no mention was ever made at that time that we could not have separate bills on the phone call. The food was standard greek food, nothing stood out as great at all. When we asked for separate bills the waitress refused and said we could not have it. We asked to speak to the owner who at first refused to come out and even talk to us. When he finally... more
This place was very cute. Has plenty of character! Food was alright. Room for improvement. You will enjoy your meal and be full as you get 3 sides with your main dish ;)
I've only been in here twice and I got bad customer service both times. I definitely won't be coming back here anytime soon.
I had the Chicken and Pasta. It was decent. I liked the sauce and the mushrooms. I thought it was a bit overpriced though.
If only the service was better, I think I would have given them a better review.
Just ate here for the first time last night and it was absolutely delicious. The medditeran chicken was done perfectly and certainly exceeded my expectations! I was filled with instant regret when I tried my friends calamari and didn't order one myself. Service was quick, friendly and the whole place just felt authentic. Look forward to going back soon!
Sign flashing open. Advertised open till 11 pm. @ 10:02 pm met at the front door with a sorry we are closed sorry we won't be back.
My friend brought me out here for dinner tonight and I had a really good time!
We ordered the Vassilis platter and the calamarj and it was so filling and tasty. Loved the prawns and the veggies and the pilaf. Everything tasted good with the tzatziki :)
The service was excellent, but what really made this place stand out was the atmosphere and decor. The place was decorated so nicely and...

I used to come here years ago all the time. Since then the portions have gotten a lot smaller and the prices a lot higher. The food quality is still good though. I love the roast lamb.
However, I dislike coming here because the owner is a real eye sore. He always looks angry, never smiles at you, and is always getting angry at the servers.
The servers are great, friendly, prompt service.
But...

The atmosphere here is cute, quaint with lots of candles. It's a bit too dark for my taste though, I like to see what I'm eating! Hubs and I shared the authentic greek platter for two, which was really enough food for 4! We took most of it home. The calamari wasn't great, greasy and chewy. Spanakopita was delicious! Our Moussaka was good, but still cold in the center when it arrived at our... more
Why have I stopped going? Bill's attitude! ("the owner")
No altercations, disagreements over bills, food, etc. - no axe to grind that way. Food was good.
Over 28 years, company gatherings, introducing friends , etc. Bill was never friendly and wouldn't to this day be able to call us by name (if he could he sadly failed to do so even once in those 28 years -- although going there on a frequent...

"The Greek place with the Ferrari parked in front". That is the claim to fame for this place.
Parking is available in a nice big side lot. There is also the street on the other side.
On the way in, I noticed that a) the Ferrari had expired license plates (January 2014), and that it was attached to a trickle charger. But I digress. Nice car.
Staff were friendly, though I felt bad for some of...

Dining with three other friends one evening. One of the lamb dish had a piece of metal the size of a hair pin and it was charred. We showed it to the waitress and she came back and apologize saying it was part of the grill that fell into the dish. She told us the dish would be free so we reorder the same dish. When our bill came we were charged $10 for it. She explained we reordered a new dish... more
The food was okay, but over priced.
The service was horrible! Our server tried to banter with my friend, but it came across as condescending instead of funny. The food took ages to arrive after we ordered. We asked for separate bills when we ordered, and when we got the bill it was all together- not the end of the world, but our server was rude when we used a calculator to divide it up...

I had the Kalamari, Chicken Keftethes and Garlic Prawns. At first I thought I had lost my ability to taste food. Turns out its the food. The Tsatizki had taste, granted not a very good one. The food was cooked well enough just tasteless. I was amazed that food could be so bland.
Food was ok, like everyone wrote, over priced for the food you get. Portions did get smaller. Im guessing its due to the upgraded car of the owner.. Everyone knows the place for the owner having a Ferrari. Not the food. 18$ for a roast lamb.. Bit high. I guess they are right, best greek in burnaby.. If you only... more
Food was kinda good , but overpriced. Service was slow. Would not recommend.
Went for a Saturday lunch, loved the decor and our server Joanna was fantastic! Had the tzatziki & pita to start and chicken keftethes...deelish!
Very good food. Prices reasonable. Always busy. Service is average. Abiance is excellent.
We went for a date night.
Thanks to the people who recommended the lamb medallions - they were delicious and perfectly cooked. We liked the cheese-topped zucchini and eggplant side veggies too. Even the rice was good. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive, and gets extra credit for listening to the orders instead of writing them down, and then she delivered them directly to the people who ordered them instead of... more
Good Greek food, but not the best I've had. The ambiance is beautiful but the food is very over-priced compared to other Greek restaurants I've been to. The owner was present during my dinner and sat in the front room yelling at the waitresses to get him food and drinks. When the music stopped I could clearly hear him say to one of the waitresses, "are you handicapped?" He is not a good... more
Had a really wonderful meal and the ambiance was very well done. Portion of the dishes were big, with lots of flavor. I will definitely be coming back in the future.
Really torn on this review. Ate there for my first time on Tuesday night for my staff Christmas Dinner. Before going into any further details I do want to stress that there was roughly 16 of us. Also, it is quite the large restaurant and was decently busy for a Tuesday night before we arrived.
Service - overall, the service was weak. I understand you are quite busy and it is a large table but...

Bad service. Servers with terribly rude attitude. Overpriced! They are better Greek restaurants in this neighbourhood
I came here, against my sisters advise. She said it was just OK, bit I needed to kill an hour, and the website is so basic, I assumed it would be a quick salad and spinach pie, diner style. I was so shocked to see how cute, quaint, and decorative it was inside. Tons of attention to detail. Spotless, warm,... more
This place sucks! Terrible service that takes way too long.
I had a bad encounter there once and never went back. I wouldn't suggest it unless you like bad service from unfriendly people, an owner who looks like he doesn't care very much and a very dim lit place where you need a flashlight to read the menu.
I've been frequenting this restaurant for at least 10 years. The food and service have been consistently good and the décor is very authentic and romantic, which was reason enough for me to ignore the incredible rudeness of the owner. I saw him yelling at his staff in a couple of occasions, and twice grunting and slamming the window shutters... more
I want to give Vassilis 5 stars for the experience and meal I had a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, it far exceeds the three previous average experiences I had here by about 2 stars. The inconsistency of taste experience is an issue for me.
My last meal was fantastic. The lamb shoulder was PERFECT. I've worked in Greek restaurants throughout the lower mainland was a driver and kitchen...

I just came from the restaurant and had a good meal. I had the vegetarian plate of spanokapita, dolmades, hummus, delicious green beans, potatoes. I thought it was great. My companions had lamb souvlaki and were happy. The restaurant was not busy and the waitress was pleasant. I have always liked the look of the restaurant and it was nice... more
This is the restaurant the locals call 'the Greek place with the Ferrari" because the owner parks his baby out front on nice days. We had a reservation so had no problems getting in on Saturday night. Despite the parking lot being full it wasn't actually all that busy inside. On the way to our table we walked by a bored-looking older gentleman who was lounging against the wall, he didn't so... more
The other day, we were hungry and did not know what to eat, so we remembered Vassilis, a restaurant we have seen many times, therefore we decided to give it a shot. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner (we assume) he guided us to a table in an area the majority of the diners were sitting (by... more
The only reason I go here is for the food, usually I will just order takeout so that I don't have to sit through a meal of atrocious service.
Everyone from the owner to the servers are rude. They are loud and unpleasant. Makes the dining experience terrible. Gotta give the guy kudos though he's got a nice Ferrari parked out front.
Anyways, the food like I said is good. Probably the best Greek...

Came here for dinner with my friend . We were seated near the back of the restaurant and it took a while before the server came over to us. We ordered a couple of stellas and the roast lamb dinner. Our server brings us our drinks and seriously within 5 minutes we get our dinners. Whoa! What's that all about? Is everything sitting under heat lamps or in warming ovens? WTF? Well, the lamb was... more
Came here for the first time last night...SOLD! Definitely my future go-to Greek restaurant!
Server was personable but a bit slow. We waited about 15-20 mins for our food, but it was SO DELICIOUS!
This restaurant may be good for you if you don't appear to be an immigrant to the owner's judgement. Upon arrival, if you appear to be an immigrant to the owner, your party will be seated in a designated area which is away from the view of the entrance. He categorizes immigrants as non-white or speaks English with an accent.... more
Avoid this place at all costs. The food was microwaved and overpriced, but worse of all the service was beyond infuriating and this was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in recent memory if not ever. We had a party of 12, we got one bill and asked politely to have it split up, we... more
I'm surprised by the negative reviews some of the yelpers have left. I am a repeat customer, and I can say that the food was consistently delicios (except, perhaps, for the pita bread, which had hardly any taste at all). The atmosphere is splendid, with all the authentic Greek decorations. I don't think there's any other Greek restaurant in the Vancouver area that has a more authentic decor. I... more
Food not that impressive. Service very not impressed. Waitress flirted with a young guy at another table for very long time. Ignored us to the point my wife got up to chase down ANY waitress for refilling our drinks. Owner likes to park his Ferrari in the only Handicap stall he has, and I am disabled and would have liked to park there, but we had to park near the garbage bins. If the service... more
We are vegetarians. We share the vegetarian plate and order a side of tzatziki, plus drinks. A wonderful ample meal for a reasonable price. Some servers facilitate the sharing by bringing an extra plate and we tip extra when they do. Other than occasional miserliness with the extra plate, the service is good. One of our 2 favourite restaurants for dinner - love the food and ambiance.
Just bad over priced bad food. Over cooked rubber seafood, lamb shank looked like something they scraped off the road, very small portions of rice and vegetables......etc.... The roasted lamb was the only decent meal but again the rice and vegetables lacked.
The food and atmosphere were both great, but were eclipsed by very poor customer service.
We went as a group of 10, which meant an automatic 15% gratuity would be added to the bill. We ordered our meals as well as three orders of pita bread. When our meals came, the bread didn't. When we asked our server, she apologized and said she would bring them out for free.
Not once during the meal did...

This restaurant has a marvelous atmosphere, the food is excellent and the portions are large. A little pricey but very nice.
Still turning out all of our favourites. And they still taste as good.
When's it's a 5 here, trust me that it's a winner! Ordered the rack of lamb for the 3rd time, absolutely the most tender and best tasty ever. That's all I order.
Ok, i did order the calamari, also tasty w/o all the oil.
this time I did order the mud pie, which is also a 4 out of 5 stars too. A bit of sweet raspberry, and some rum, but the ice cream mocha w/ the orea-like crumb bottom, is...

One word: Overpriced.
More words: I came here on a double date with another couple. Outside, the restaurant looks like a standard Greek restaurant. Inside, it's very dark. I'm not sure what kind of atmosphere they're going for, but when I think Greek food I don't think intimate dining. Everything on the menu is really expensive! A plate of chicken souvlaki cost $17.95, and that was one of the...

I just called Vassilis to make a reservation for 10 people. The gentleman, and I use this term VERY loosely, who answered the phone (I'm assuming it was the owner) answered and didn't seem happy in the least to hear from a customer wanting to make a reservation. He promptly told me that people could not pay seperately everyone's orders would have to be on one bill. I advised him we would go... more
Aug 2011 UPDATED Review - Thumbs Down
Oh dear. Times they are a changing. Food has REALLY started to go downhill. When doing pick up, even on a quiet night they are slow to get it out and once I get it home (a few minutes later) I find out it's cold.
Very, very small portions now being given for take out (won't do that again). Calamari tastes chewy and too greasy. Roast lamb usually has more...

The staff at this restaurant certainly wouldn't win any friendliness awards- the owner stared at us when we walked in (no greeting), and the server couldn't have cared less. The food came quickly and was average for greek- tasted good, but nothing exceptional. Then the server cleared our plates literally as we were putting down our forks, then used my... more
Upon entering the establishment, i was greeted by a waitress who led me to my group. The owner had walked past me mumbling away in in fury.
As we ordered our food, i decided to go for the calamari combo. A friend who sat next to me ordered his meal. When we got our food, the waitress forgot his appetizer order and told him that she never got his order. The food itself was good. Calamari was...

Great food, but they should pay their light bill!
We live close to Vassilis, so when looking for an excellent Rack of Lamb, this is our choice. The food here is never disappointing. The service is usually good. As others have pointed out, you may want to take a flashlight to shine some light on your menu.
The owner of the place is usually there, seldom seems happy to see you, and always seems...

Vassillis is just a few steps from where I live so my husband and I were eventually going to try it out.
What caught my attention was the sign that said "Best Greek Food in Burnaby", but for my husband, it was the ferrari parked outside.
The ferrari must be because of how well the owner is doing and it really shows in the food. I was impressed with the food and we ended up finishing...

Location: Not bad, a little further East of Metrotown than I would've preferred traveling, however, more central location for others in and around the Burnaby/Vancouver area.
Atmosphere: It was way too dim, we could barely read the menu. I've been in dim dining places and read the menus fine, however, this was a bit excessive.
Service: I've been there before, a year ago actually and the...

Came in a group of 4 and were seated immediately. My first impression of the place was positive, as the decor was very interesting (I like all the plants). It also seemed much bigger once I was inside.
The food was delicious, and the portions were good for the price. If we had had appetizers, I'm sure I couldn't have eaten it all. I got the Mediterranean chicken; no complaints about anything-...

Always know what you'll get here, nice warmed pita bread, and great souvlaki. Service can be slow at times, and if you get a window seat anytime but in summer its cold. Bottom line is great tasting greek food though.
This restaurant served very authentic and delicious Greek food, as well as great Tiramisu. However, the only thing that crossed my mind was that it was kind of overpriced for some of the items.
Beautiful interior and great food.
Their special, the broiled stuffed calamari, is just fantastic.
Service was very friendly but dreadfully slow.
We were craving Greek and thought we'd try this place. When we entered the owner was sitting there, I assumed he would welcome us at least but he completely ignored us even when I said hi. Don't know what his problem is, and his red Ferrari always parked outdoors seems a little fishy.
Anyways, back to the restaurant. The prices are quite high for Greek and portions aren't that great. I had...

Vassilis is our pick for Greek food in Burnaby. We have never been disappointed here and often bring our out of town guests. The inside decor is fun, but take a look outside as well. The garden is mature and well-cared for making a window seat even more of a treat.
It has been a long time since my last really fantastic Greek meal and that meal was in...Greece!
Yes, it is difficult to find proper, authentic Greek cuisine that tastes amazing but fortunately, with over thirty years experience, Vassilis knows what its doing and it shows. My lovely friend and I were greeted by an enthusiastic and friendly hostess and server when we crossed the thresh hold of...

We gave this (previously our favourite) restaurant another try after several disappointing visits last year. Things haven't improved, they've deteriorated more. Our saganaki and spanokopita were barely warm, the cheese not melted. We informed the waitress and she took it away, reheated it and returned it at the same time as our meal. It looked horrible. The garlic prawns were more oil... more
Food was good, but very rude crazy people who threatened us with the police when we questioned 50 dollars for 4 double highballs.
This place is awful. The manager is an a@s and the service sucks!!! We ordered 4 double caesars and were charged $50!!!! Robbery, yes. They claimed because it wasn't priced on the menu they can charge whatever they want!! What a bunch of jerks! Will never go here ever again!!
Terrible. Owner would not even accomodate us to have one more seat on our table.
Food is always excellent! Owner is ornery and VERY unfriendly, my husband refuses to go there because of him.
Very good restaurant with nice decoration and the food is very very good. My friends and me always have a good diner there. We recommended for sure
As far as Greek food is concerned, look elswhere. Everything must have been prepared in advance as the food arrived too quickly ! Veggies tasted like frozen, awfull rice, the lamb was o.k. though. Service mediocre.
My friend and I visited Vassilis Greek Taverna on Wednesday June 20th at around 7pm. We got greeted by an older gentleman and sat on the patio. We did request a high chair for my girlfriend 1 year old baby, but at that time was not available. We waited about 5-10min for a waitress to come and greet us. ugly Boss customer service attitute, not recommended to this restaurant only if you want to get mad with someone, an old guy
I absolutely love this restaurant. The ambiance and decor was beautiful. The staff was professional and attentive and the food was fresh and very well prepared. We are booking it for a large party for a night in August.
Vassilis Souvlaki Greek Taverna offers these services: restaurant, grocery store, pizza.
