I LOVE LOVE LOVE checking out grocery stores, even pretentious looking ones that sell small bags of jalapeño chips for $5. My motto is see more, eat more, learn more.
We had to board the cruise ship at 11 am and stayed at the Shangri-La the night before. It was 8:30 am and we were bored and hungry, both of which do not mix well together. The hubs and I wandered around until we found Urban...

This is a review for their hot food/carvery.
My mom and I tried their Wednesday lamb special for dinner. No good.
Lamb was dry with that gamy taste.
Rice pilaf - there was uncooked rice grains! My mom had to bite very carefully and finally just gave up and put it aside.
Mashed potatoes were fine
Veggies were overdone or underdone
What a waste of $28!
(This review is solely for the cafeteria inside this Urban Fare store.)
The cafeteria here offers a large variety of dining options, ranging from a hot food bar, a salad bar, a pizza station, boxed sushi, to pot pies and other set combos that you can order from behind a counter.
I've tried a variety of items from the options I've mentioned above, but I particularly enjoy their hot food bar,...

I usually go here if i need a buffet fix. It's your grocery buffet-type not the fancy kind but i have to say it's pretty reasonable. Evening buffet/dinner buffet however, expect stale and extremely dry food that's been sitting all day. Not too happy about that but mornings til lunch time is great for its prices.
Grocery wise, expensive!! I go here if i want Manila Clams, they're cheap here and...

Products from all over the world to tickle every well-traveled food lover's taste buds. The cheeses offered are well-selected, the baked goods better than average bakeries and their water selection quite impressive. Their chocolate selection is inspiring but unfortunately lacks some of the best chocolate from Switzerland and Belgium - some work to do for their food scouts!
A wonderful little grocery store with delicious hot meals for sale! A really great place to grab a quick bite.
Can't speak to the store but had lunch in the cafeteria and they have a great variety of stuff - sandwiches, salad bar, hot bar, pizza, etc. I got a chicken carbonara sandwich and it was very good. The ingredients were fresh and gourmet. One ding I have against the sandwich was the amount of meat was about half what it should have been for the +$7. I had about 3-4 nice bites in the center then... more

I really want to hate this place: their over priced fruits and vegetables, lack of value priced brands and how everything is 10x more expensive here.
However!! They sure have darn amazing customer service. That's their differentiator.

This is a review only for the urban fare cafeteria. Reasonably priced food in a cafeteria kinda environment. You pick your food, pay for it, find a table, eat and leave. Clean, bright and spacious environment with a couple TV's. You can order at the carving station where they have 3 different kinds of grilled chicken (Cajun, Italian herbs and BBQ). The carving station also has Porchetta, Ribs,... more
Came here many times both for groceries and lunch/dinner. Their lunch meals are decent for the portions.
Great little grocery store very close to downtown. I happened upon Urban Fare later at night, so kudos for having long hours in a downtown location. Store was very clean and well-lit, with artful displays of fresh organic fruits and veggies. I can see this store being a daily stop if you lived in a condo nearby.
This place is great when you need to quickly grab a decent lunch with no hassle from a waiter or waitress.
I like their grilled chicken plate with two sides. Just make sure you avoid the chicken that's been out for too long and how do you know??? ASK!
We were in a rush to grab a bite for lunch. We needed a quite bite, but didn't want to settle for fast food.
We came in and were surprised by a huge variety of panini's, sandiwches, hot grill items and the salad bar. I opted for the Turkey sandwich, which they can grill for you to make it nice and toasty. We also got a couple veggie samosas and the butter chicken samosa - which the can also...

Organic. Fresh. Close to me. I tried recently the marinated mushrooms salad, the ''Mardi Gras potatoes salad and their famous turkey-cranberries sandwich. I love coming to Urban Fare during the weekday to get my lunch or just stock up on groceries. For Yaletown location, I found great stopping in for cheese and bacon is a must. …
I live steps away so it is hard to avoid the only grocery store within strolling distance... I wish it was a Safeway or not there at all. Nice grocery store in a great location. We came here for the meal service and ordered two breakfasts.
First time to this location. Lots of choices for lunch to go. Very fresh and not that busy. I feel so healthy after eating lunch here. Every one here seems so nice. Lol lots of elderly people so you have to be patient here. No steamrolling through the isles.
Love the sushi here ! Always made fresh and ready To go! Buffet and the staff are friendly.
Only thing would be faster and acknowledgement from the restaurant serving staff would be nice. Just letting us know you'll be with us shortly would be great instead of ignoring us when you know we are there. Other than that everyone was quite helpful!
Cheaper than a hotel breakfast, and fast and friendly service ..good choice of breakfast fare..would recommend 2 egg breakfast, granola breakfast and small stack pancake breakfast. Good coffee too
Our hotel was just a block away from this cool place. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner here because the food was fresh, healthy, and inexpensive. The food service people behind the counter were patient and answered all of our questions with smiles, especially Olivia. The food options ranged from soup, salad, entrees (chicken pot pie, lasagna, roast beef, meatballs)... more
Good place for a quick breakfast or lunch. Well located and decent local craft beer selection. I would recommend
We found this on our travels downtown. Excellent food with great choices. A must go. With the water 1 block away, eat in or take out and enjoy Vancouver. Great patio. The servers are there to help. This is cafeteria style, attached to a grocery store. Don't let that fool you. This is for real
We thought our hotel a tad over-priced and certainly unimaginative in the breakfast department, and wandered down the street to 305 Bute Street to find this treasure. What looks like a well-kept cafe outside is a veritable tardis inside! We were staying at the Coast Coal Harbour and went across the street for breakfast on 2 mornings. Lots of choice for a quick selection and something for everyone. Sat outside and enjoyed the sun. Service is friendly.
Ate here on our cross country roadtrip. It was convenient to the condo we stayed in and better yet it was tasty and affordable. This is a cafe/grocery combo which was also convenient. When staying in Vancouver, I tend to try the hotel for breakfast but on this occasion wandered down the street to find Urban Fare, which is essentially a supermarket/grocery store but with an adjoining restaurant. We had a quick breakfast before our trip to Stanley Park. There was a good selection of breakfast options and there was plenty of food on the plate. I had the corned beef hash and it was yummy. The coffee selection was good and the staff was friendly.

We were pleasantly surprised to find this store conveniently located near our accommodation. A wonderful range of products for the self-catering traveller, especially self-dispensing (but expensive) breakfast cereals. The macarons became our favourite evening treat. Well done.
Had lunch and breakfast at the Urban Fare which is next to the Shangri La hotel. This is a self service restaurant with a really wide buffet style selection of food and breakfast made to order for very affordable prices.
I found this place by chance as it was close to my hotel. It is a small restaurant with groceries, so you can buy other things such as fruits and bottled waters. My wife and I visited two stores in the city and found that we could have spent a lot of time in there. It is a fabulous place to pick up a picnic.
Good food, good service, and great selection combine to make this place my first choice for lunch Not the cheapest for sure, but if you are concerned about what goes in your stomach just come and sample the Greek Salad or their curry wraps. Or if you don't care just go for the cheap pizza or sushi nearby!
We came here for dinner since we had a coupon (BOGO) for their carvery dinner. Anyways, the carvery meal for that night was steak ($15.99?) so we decided to get that and it came with two sides each.

Urban fare reminds me of a super market I would see in a film or TV show and wonder why it didn't exist in my neighbourhood. This location is a stone's throw away from my workplace, and that will have to do.

Was too early for an appointment and decided to drop in for a snack.
There is a Starbucks inside but I decided to go to the Cafe beside the deli.

Whenever I visit Vancouver I patronize this excellent business. The food is delicious and healthy and there is always a variety. You can eat in or do take out. I'm reviewing the lunch here - hot bar, salad bar, deli, etc.... overpriced!
Food is sub par, prices just keep going higher and higher I swear. Why come here for an overpriced, OK lunch in a crowded eating area when there are so many better options in the area?
We bought some groceries here and our regular morning coffees and hot chocolates. What a gorgeous grocery store. Lovely clean displays. The smallgoods looked amazing and fresh and tasty. Beautiful Christmas decorations made it feel cosy.
I had the beef and gravy dip from the restaurant section of this high-end grocery store. It was really good and it's a fun thing to do - eat in a delicatessen, rather than a formal restaurant
Great gourmet selection of foods, perfect if you are from out of town and need stuff for a picnic. A Starbucks on site is always a plus for me!
