I went to University British Columbia for a conference during the spring. The campus is a beautiful place for walking.
UBC is a universe unto itself. It has all the things one would expect of a great university—an impressive library, interesting buildings, beautiful landscaping. It also has things that are unique and special: The Museum of Anthropology, the Nitobe Gardens, the UBC Farm and the Botanical Gardens. What makes it magical is the setting, surrounded by forest and ocean, with... more
Amazing location and we had a great visit to the Anthropology Museum - the Rose Garden was sadly out of season .
The UBC campus is a beautiful campus with amazing views and a wide variety of attractions for visitors. It is worth making multiple visits to explore everything. The main attractions include the Biodiversity Museum, Museum of Anthropology, The Botanical Gardens, Wreck Beach, UBC Farm, and Cecil Green Park to name but a few. it is wonderful just to walk across... more
I recently visited Vancouver to celebrate my birthday and I am so glad that I visited the University of British Columbia. I took the city bus to get to UBC and found that the campus is huge! I took some beautiful photos and of course I was reminded of my undergrad days and even now since I am still studying... more
It is huge, a city unto itself, bookstore and coffee shop, their own beach, great anthropology museum. Only bad part is so big hard to see it all
I'm very impressed with this university as not only it's one of the better ones academically, but the surroundings are beautiful too. World ranking by reputation, UBC is placed 31 and by the Times Higher Education World University rankings 2012 - 2013, it's placed 30.
Visit the Spanish banks beach, it has a nice view of downtown Vancouver and Wreck...

We went to the Japanese garden which was small but lovely. And the Arboretum was really worth the visit. Would recommend returning back to the US via this Univ. route... more
This university is as diverse in its offerings in education as it is those who attend from around the world and offers something for everyone. Universities are not usually a number one on my tourist destination spots but UBC has some unbelievable views and things to see on top of being one of the leading universities in the world of... more
This is not a highlight if you are tourists that want to pocket attractions so that you can say "been there done that". But, if you want to see and understand why people love living in Vancouver, I can't think of a better place to define why I love this city. The space is beautiful and people are vibrant. It is... more
Whenever visiting Vancouver, I try to make it a priority to spend at least an hour or two walking around UBC. I wouldn't put the campus in the same category as my alma mater's (the University of Washington in Seattle) because the architecture and layout don't compare, but the views and open air here are spectacular.
In particular the rose...

I will not go out of my way to visit. There is nothing special about it. I decided to visit because I read UBC was one of the most beautiful campuses in Canada (It was in some Vancouver tourism website!). I haven't visited many campuses but I can say for sure University of Toronto is the most beautiful one out... more
Our daughter scheduled a campus tour while we vacationed in Vancouver. Beautiful, huge campus on the edge of the ocean. Many opportunities for students, and many updates to buildings and services in the works.
UBC opened at its present location in September 1925. Several of the original buildings continue to function, notably sections of the Library and the Chemistry Building. The rest of the huge campus has grown up without any particular architectural consistency--although buildings erected since 1995 do suggest an institutional commitment to the founding peoples of the province (Asian, First... more
It's on the end of Point Grey peninsula and surrounded by Pacific Spirit Park. I'm an alumnus and also worked here, and it has so much to offer, whether it's the Museum or Libraries, Bookstore or gardens, events at Chan Centre or just riding your bike around the huge campus. Stop at Starbuck's or The Village to eat, or drive... more
Pedestrian friendly campus, with awesome vistas off the rose garden at the north end of main mall. You haven't lived until you have walk the 2km long main mall from end to end. See fountains, 30+ species of roses, world class architecture and the world's largest whale skeleton, too !
Walk down 400 steps to tower beach and/or the world...

Modern but lacking the feel of an university complex. The layout of the place looks simple (driving a car), but somehow never realy get to know the place unless I visit a location more than once. There is some lgic to the layout, but ..... more
If you don't want to go to college there, I will!!! That's what I told my Daughter, who is a recent graduate. This campus has the most prime piece of property in Vancouver, and the surrounding neighborhoods are to die for. Visit the Rose Garden near the flag pole....probably one of the most 'photo prone' spots in BC!...and visit the... more
Campus is huge but has several nice views, fontains, etc. Lovely banks to pause. But very far from the city centre. Take bus 99 b line to go there.
Loved walking around the campus, it was clean and the people were helpful when I didn't know where specific buildings were
UBC is worth visiting because of the scenic ride along the ocean and the typical West Coast vegetation. Be sure to stop at the Anthropology museum if there is time you won't be sorry.
A city within a city. UBC is a beautifully laid out University, with many conveniences and green spaces to study or relax in.
This internationally recognized research university provides an excellent walk with attractions and a beautiful view. The University is located on endowment lands on the west side with views of the outer harbour and the Straight of Georgia. The walks are very beautiful and should be enjoyed at a leasurley pace - you can even walk down a rather steep path... more
Excellent University. My daughter went there and had a wonderful
experience. The campus is so lovely. What a wonderful place to get
an education
an internationally recognized university set on a large swath of prime vancouver real estate. there's museums and gardens to visit, beaches nearby and a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs offered. ubc is also a research based institution.
Public gardens, The views from various vistas, Chan Centre; drive along Marine, Book stores, Faculty museums (there is more than one), General atmosphere
Incredible place - anytime I have gone there, it has such an aura about it - a wonderful institution for learning there is no doubt
I attend UBC as a full time student and live on campus, and I love it. It does have much to offer visitors though; the Museum of Anthropology, the Beaty Biodiversity Museum (with a real whale skeleton on display!!) and just generally beautiful scenery. There are several restaurants, and the bookstore is worth visiting. And Wreck Beach =]
An old Alma Mater, well at least for a first year. Was friendly and open in the 60's and even more beautiful today. Visit the main site lik Japanese garden, etc.
Like many other all encompassing campuses, UBC has its own individual atmosphere. There is a great buzz about the place, and it contains the museum of anthropology and wreck beach(among other beaches). Could spend an afternoon out here just ambling around
Our gem of a university is surrounded on three sides by water...and has a very comfortable, and welcoming feel to it. It truly is spread out over quite a large area. There is great bus service from many main roads that will take you to UBC. Also, there is a great bookstore there too!
Not only is this a gorgeous setting, but the mix of old & new buildings, especially with the development of an entire community, now, is a delightful place to walk, visit friends, grab a bite, and enjoy some nature.
The University is like a small city with it's own museums, gardens, shops, and housing in addition to its educational facilities. The landscaping is perfect.
Student fees are higher than ever and the halls are older than ever. A good university with great programs but considering how much the professors are paid and the students are gouged, update this place!
The campus is lovely with many tree-lined walks past the attractive faculty buildings. Lots of flowers in the rose garden and a lovely lookout towards the north shore mountains.
The UBC campus itself is bigger than the size of Downtown Vancouver. Many new buildings have been erected in the recent years. As well, high-end residences also built on campus. You can walk / bike the expansive Pacific Forest Park.
There for our daughter's grad the auditorium was spacious and airy. The grounds and the rose garden very pretty with a nice view of the area.
The Bookstore is amazing with titles beyond the books stocked for students. The coffee shop in the Student union building has the most amazing cinnamon buns. Coffee is pretty good as well.
Offices, hospitals, hi-rises, gyms, museums, parks, nude beaches, a forest and a university. What else do you need?
It is worth spending some time to visit this top grade university in British Columbia. The view can start driving along the Marine Drive . You can walk around to enjoy the different scenic spots. Leave by the entrance leading you to Vancouver around the 4th Street to look at the shops there.
Beautiful campus, complete with beaches, hiking & biking trails, tons of different stores & restaurants.
Canada's major western university with lots of interesting architecture demonstrating the evolution of a big university over more than 100 years - and all in a great geographic location but make sure it's a sunny day as this is a crummy place in the rain. Take in the Museum of Anthropology and the UBC Botanical Garden on the same trip.
to visit, particularly, the theatre, botanical garden and UBC campus book store - Anthropology museum - lovely drive up along the beach
Lots to see and do here. Pick up a campus map. Best to go on weekends
When I was a kid, back in the late 1950's, I used to visit my cousin who lived in Point Grey every summer, and the Empire Pool at UBC was one of our favourite haunts. The other was the farm on the property back then, we took bread out to lure the turkeys to the fence so we could steal... more
If you are visiting as a tourist, UBC is not to be missed. There are so many wonderful things to see and do in this city within a city. The location is beautiful to start with, but on top of that there is a Botanical Garden with a tree top walk, a Japanese garden and the museums! A great way... more
It's a very big campus, with some nice highlights (Wreck Beach - though fair warning: it's a nude beach, and it's 90% men and 90% over-60. Still THE best beach in Vancouver (gorgeous and warm in the late summer!), but be forewarned about the 'scenery'). Chan centre is a lovely venue, there's the Museum of Anthropologie AND the new Beatty... more
Great area and a super university in a city setting
Offers a great variety of courses, has great libraries for research, a lovely campus to stroll through, and a fantastic anthropological museum.
My siblings went here and whenever I visited I loved it. The campus is beautiful and filled with different thing to see and great places to eat. Love it here!
