From the follow-up call to confirm our reservation through to the desert our meal was the perfect experience. Our server was fantastic quickly taking care of our requests. The food quality and presentation was superb.

A culinary adventure.

While in Halifax we used Open Table to find a near by restaurant. We were pleasantly suprised by the unique dining experience in this historic location. The wine list was extensive, the scotch flights were interesting and well paired. The food was very good and the wait staff was friendly, prompt and efficient. Will definitely return!

Had a lovely dinner here for my husband's birthday. Ordered the steak and he had the halibut, both we're incredible. Yummy mussels and steak :) Our waiter added to our experience - he was very friendly and funny. I also like the teamwork of servers to bring your food and clear your plates - it seemed really efficient (something that I normally don't think of, but I appreciated the service of all the staff). Experienced The Press Gang for the first time. The scallops were cooked to perfection as was the char. We were able to enjoy our meal at our own pace and never felt rushed (like we have experienced in other restaurants). Historical decor and layout of the eating areas were genius.

We had an amazing dinner here a couple nights ago. It's not often I can say that everything was deliscous but it was. The service was friendly and prompt. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant in one of the oldest stone buildings in Halifax. Candles in the alcove and live piano player and singer were a nice touch.

I have been to the Press Gang many times and I am never disappointed. My favorite is 'The Drill', the chef decides based on the wine preference. Location, ambience and service is bar none. My favorite 'night out' place to dine - plan for a good two hours, NOT a quick fix for hunger unless you order several appetizers to share with a glass of wine. The menu is pricey, but not over the top.

The food is good but be prepared to pay for tiny servings . I had Digby Scallops and I had three scallops $38.00. It is in one of the city's most historic building from 1759. It is a favorite with visiting celebraties.

Pressed into Service

A Press Gang is a gang of men that used to troll the drinking holes along the harbourfronts of sea towns, more or less kidnapping men and boys for service in the navy. Usually love the place. Friday night was glad when we were done. 3 couples went. 15 minute wait for a drink. 2.5 hour long dinner. Only had 2 drinks due to slow service. Waitress cocky. One of my friends told server not to worry she could fill our drinks with wine as the small table made it hard to serve two of us. Server commented 'I'll get you a straw". What was that?? Awesome experience

We went to the Press Gang for a jazz event, and came away loving this restaurant. Since I'm visiting from California for the third time and have not been very impressed with the restaurants in Halifax. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of service, the ambiance, and the delictable cusine. Enjoyed meal and atmosphere.

Largest scallops we have seen or eaten at any dinner. They were done very well and could be cut with a fork. Very nice decor in the location.

I enjoy the rustic, old town interior of the restaurant with a small cozy/inviting exterior. Service is prompt and professional. Food is of the best in the city overall and definatly best in the city of it's catagory. Will be back.

Star service...

Far from home, late at night [on a Sunday] and ravenously hungry, my husband and I stumbled upon the Press Gang whilst looking for an alternative to burgers and fries, fish and chips and other pub fare.

Great Service

My wife and I went to the Press Gang sometime in August '04 and we sat at the bar and had dinner.
There were two extremly personable bartenders there. I beleive there names were Peter and Mike. Peter is the barmanager I beleive.
They were able to fully describe the oysters and their origins confidently. It was apparent that they had been trained well.

Food Excellent, service sometimes questionable

We have been to The Press Gang 4 times since moving back to Halifax 3 years ago. Every meal has been incredible as far as the menu selection and taste go. Grilled Lobster

Terrific atmosphere, kitchen open until 11 pm on Sundays. The seafood was stupendous - fresher than anything I had eaten before in NYC. The restaurant grills its lobster to perfection, something I have never enjoyed at any other restaurant. We found this place late on Sunday as we were about to give up on the pub fare offered around Halifax and eat at the hotel. Glad we did.
