I have always loved museums, especially when it has anything to do with history!
So when hubby-to-be & I were adventuring in Calgary, we made sure to visit this one!
The staff are very friendly; we even met a vet that used to volunteer there who shared stories of his experiences.
The exhibits are well displayed & there is quite a bit of information to soak up in each separate area.
I loved...

this museum is a wonderful exhibition of all things military - be sure to plan enough time to see everything
We love going ... there are so many artifacts to look at that you will need to keep coming back over and over again.
There are 3 museums included in this group. One dedicated to the air force, one to the navy and the biggest section to the army as it covers many different regiments and wars. All the museums are magnificently presented with lots of models and veterans present who are so knowledgeable and willing to explain anything to you. There is a... more
I first visited this museum in 1999. Since then, they have added a naval section with artifacts and an air section (with mostly photos, someone told me; I did not visit that section). I love the army sections. Their highlight for me is several life size dioramas that included things like a Sherman tank, a jeep, a Universal carrier and... more
This was a really well produced history experience. Air Force, Army and Navy all neatly presented. Tip: check out the working submarine periscope!
Excellent guides, great displays and easy access. Will provide areas of interest for all age groups. Army, Navy and Air Force displays.
The entire experience is worthwhile. The inside displays are very well done. The life size figures, bring the history to life. Try to go on a Sunday as it is less busy. Take time to read many of the stories and you will feel the pride and sacrifice of Canada's men and women in uniform. This museum is a gem... more
Walk through history at the TMM.
If you're visiting Calgary and want to spend half a day learning about Canada's and Alberta's military heritate, the TMM is an amazing resource.
Also, view the tank park outside and stand next Allied and Warsaw Pact steel beasts!
I arrived on a Sunday and the young gentleman greeted me right away and passed me onto the cashier to pay for my entry. They were both very helpful. The museum itself is a great representation of Canadian military history and well worth a visit if you are interested in any aspect of history.
We were not expecting much from this small museum, but were very pleasantly surprised! It is so well done, and we spent many more hours than we anticipated. Well done!
We head to the museum on Remembrance Day every year and after the ceremonies spend the day viewing the displays. We learn or see something new every year that we missed in previous years. It is a very large facility so give yourself a few hours to enjoy it. Lots of history.
I was overwhelmed with the display layout, I did not allow myself time to really cover the entire display and plan on another trip to further enjoy it some more.
It covers our military well, as my dad was in WWII I found it most enjoyable. I really enjoyed being able to climb up and look right inside on of...

This is my favourite museum in Calgary. The exhibits are interesting and depict the conditions that our soldiers have endured. They have go away from the manaquines with uniforms and made life size diaramas.
At least mine, lots to see and lots to think about after visiting here. Its probably one of places that locals don't think to check out. Well, it is a good stop to go see. For everyone.
Modern, interesting and well worth a visit. 5 Army Museums, a Naval Museum and an Air Force Museum augmented by a great art gallery plus the U of C military history library make this a must see in Calgary
An excellent collection of military memorabilia. Interesting and a wide variety of things to see. Something for everyone. A must see in Calgary
cool history. nice place for families. loved learning the history of our contributions. huge facility. a definate recommended trip. even the outside tour is great.
The museum is huge and very well done. We are an active military family and were very impressed. Items from all branches including planes. Allow for a few hours.
A beautiful tribute to our soldiers, fallen and active. Many displays, lots to learn. Some fantastic, life size dioramas that make you feel like you are there. A very quiet way to spend a morning or afternoon.
It's a great spot for military buffs or those interested in history. I enjoyed that it put an emphisis on the local military regiments and their contributions to Canadian history. The place is a fair size, so be prepared to stay a good chunk of the day if you want to take it all in. I would have liked to... more
My family with young grandchildren visit here every Remembrance Day! It is a true remembrance to all the people and their families who lost their lives for our country.
This was a great way to spend an afternoon. To be honest, we had intended to visit the main museum in downtown Calgary, but it was closed on Mondays and we had some time to kill otherwise we wouldn't have come across this place. We were really glad we did though. There were lots of exhibits, covering not only the... more
I loved the tanks and the support vehicles outside, especially the Soviet T-72 Tank. The aviation museum is fun and full of history, and there was a WWII veteran who gave me a great tour of the place (he was a gunner in a bomber). NAVY museum is awesome as well, with many guns and torpedoes, as well as airplanes... more
There is a lot to see - more than you would expect for the price. The Naval exhibit is outstanding and I hope the curator is reading this because I wanted to tell him that personally (saw him when we went in, but not out).We felt very moved by several of the exhibits - patriotic and proud. There is a... more
When arriving at the museum, I was impressed not only by the building but even more so by it's displays. Very realistic dioramas, covering a wide range of Canadian history as well as all services of the Canadian forces. A more than pleasant surprise . My only regret is that I didn't have sufficient time to do justice to it
We have visited military museums internationally and this complex has to be one of the best we have ever seen. All the services of the Canadian Armed forces are represented although the Air Force exhibit is small.
If you are interested in military history OR Canadian history this complex is a must see. The price was quite reasonable also.
I was kinda iffy about going here, having been severely disappointed by the air museum near the airport years ago when I lived in Calgary. But wow, this place was pretty well done. Although not a very comprehensive view of the Canadian military (a little disappointing given it calls itself a museum of the Canadian Forces), it covers Calgary's contribution quite extensively. I was a little... more
The Military Museums is somewhat of a surprise to many as the width and depth of its displays cover a large portion of Canada's military history. I have been there a number of times and think there is something for everyone. Right now there is a special exhibit on Canadians in the Korean War (60th Anniversary of the Ceasefire) and... more

Photo exhibit of eleven women is excellent. Take time to read their stories. You may need some Kleenex!
The museums are very good. I recommend starting at the naval museum if your time is limited.
The first time I took my son to the Military Museum I thought it was a way to kill some time while educating him about war. The mueseum doesn't look like much from the outside, but in true Canadian fashion, the depth is on the inside. I did not expect that I would be moved by the images and recreations... more
Called in on Public Holiday Monday. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The Air Force and Navy halls are well laid out and informative. Rather than a single timeline of the Army it's split into three different halls giving regimental histories which works well. Fantastic WWII tableau at the entrance with a recreated scene from 1944 using a Sherman tank... more
One of the best places to see very friendly people and the information is just moving amazing place to see and very touching.
The Museum has exhibits from the three branchs of the Canadian Military - Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Navy. The exhibits cover each forces history from its origins to present day deployments. A new exhibit on the Korean War was recently opened. Entry fee is relatively inexpensive - Adults $10.00 Seniors $5. Children $5
We'd been talking about visiting for years but never made it. This year we were determined. Did it on a kid's professional day. Quiet, with reasonable admission. Was really impressed with the displays and memorabilia representing army, navy and air force. Loved the big hall with all the ship and aircraft memorabilia. My son enjoyed the weaponry. Best of all... more
Not many people know about the Military Museums, even though they might drive by it every day on Crowchild Trail. While not quite as impressive as the War Museum in Ottawa, Calgary's The Military Museums has grown in size in the last few years and has some amazing displays. Most impressive is the giant mural that greets you in the... more
Wonderful range of modern and historical presentations of Canada's military equipment and certain events. Large rooms, well displayed with some very large pieces. If you have 200 guests this would be a great place for a corporate event. Staff were remarkably good and classically Canadian! Visit on your own for a quiet review of Canadian military history. No downside. Great... more
A terrific collection of memories, and a somber salute to the brave men and women that fought for our freedom. Many sound activated exhibits and mini-movies, uniforms and medals. Assistance is provided by oue vets too, very impressive and knowledgeable.
Love this museum but a head's up! The PPCLI section is closed for renos until 2014. I was disappointed as this was the part I really wanted to see.
The Military Museums of Calgary is a new development of the original Museum of the Regiments. Located at 4520 Crowchild Trail SW, Calgary, the new museum adds the relocated Naval Museum of Alberta and an Air Force Wing to tell the story of all three branches of the Canadian Forces Through an extensive public gallery and archival holdings, the history... more
We should be proud of what our military has done for us. These museum(s) are interactive and quite large. Kids like seeing the "guns" but the stories behind them are what makes this an afternoon well spent with the family.
My dad made me go, and I really have no interest. I don't suppose that is the museums fault, but if they had found some way to make it relateable to people who are involved in the military I'm sure they would have more visitors. It would have been nice to have a more hands on approach.
it is good place for old military info , kids can be happy but in my opinion wastage of time , but you can gain knowledge there about history of AB
The military museums is many different museums combined into 1 complex. The navy and airforce sections stand out as the highlights for me but there's a full day worth of things to see. There really is something for everyone. In decent weather there are some outdoor tanks and a piece of the World Trade Centre. One museum section is also... more
Kudos to all the tireless hours the museum volunteers put in to make this museum a great place to visit, they do Calgary proud. The exhibits are great and the historical sacrifices that people made for freedom and democracy are pronounced. I just loved reading about the bravery of ordinary people and the display of medals that they received for... more
If you have had anyone in the services, it's the place to go. I've gotten information a couple different times on subjects. My youngest grand daughter REALLY liked the navy section. They have a simulator there and she especially loved that one. They have done a wonderful job.
Have been here once before but had to come see it again. It houses a wonderful array of items as far back as war of 1812 to present day and everything in between. You do not have to be a military buff to enjoy this facility but if you are be prepared to spend hours here. It is staffed by... more
My partner and I don't have much of an interest in wars but this museum kept us captivated for a few hours at least. Admission is $10 per adult and worth it. They have done such a good job restoring and maintaining artifacts (real shell casings, grenades, etc) and the displays are awesome. It was about a $15 cab ride... more
I don't like wars but I was absolutely fascinated when I went to this museum and saw all the life like replicas and authenticity. I guests with me from ON and they thoroughly enjoyed this visit.
We were impressed by this museum- didn't expect it to be so extensive or well done. We particularly enjoyed the Princess Patricia section.
Everyone should go for a visit to learn more about our history.
They also had an amazing photo exibit about walls separating people, such as the Berlin wall.
I've been there yesterday with my 10 years old son and it was a blast. Very detailed, informative and polished, it was a dive into the history. My son and I particularly appreciated the navy section while we found the air force section not as great as the others.
The tanks in the parks are worthy of great pictures. Tickets...

This museum is a must visit for anyone whom has the smallest interest in the Forces. Even for those that don't, the history represented here deserves to be viewed. It is a place that made me proud to be Canadian and for the great things oour country has done.
I have visited the Imperial War Museum in London, England, the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, and have to say, with a little bit of admitted bias, that this museum compares extremely favourably.
The reason the museum has managed to do so well is its focus; it began life as a regimental museum for four Calgary-based Army regiments. The main part of the museum continues in that capacity,...

I have been here twice and have never been disappointed with each visit. This is an excellent place to learn about the Canadian Armed Forces from the 1800's to modern day with a lot of artifacts, tanks, jeeps, firearms, helmets, and so on. Before you enter the museum there are some tanks and halftracks outside that you can go on and take pictures with. Upon entering there is a full life size... more
I'm not a fan of war history, but this museum should be visited by everyone at least once. What makes it fascinating is the war veteran tour guides. If you are a youthful person such as myself, you may think you don't want to be lead around by a senior citizen, but it's well worth your time. I heard some unbelievable stories and having things explained to you just makes sense. There are some... more
I've driven by The Military Museums a thousand times but it never occured to me that this would be something to do with my kids. With their mother's blessing, and help from a deal on TeamBuy, I decide to escape the 4 feet of snow and test the museum out.
My children are aged between 7 and 12 years old and I am amazed to say that each of them had an awesome time. It was educational AND...

Calgary Military Museums compound is one of the finest I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot.
Displays are perfectly organized, sound and light are expertly used to create an impressive experience. You don't just walk, you live through the most devastating conflicts in our history, you feel them. Just look in the cracked mirror of the trench periscope, or stay next to that blockpost, and in...

The Military Museums has been around since I was a young one. It is here where one can come get a glimpse of Canada's military heritage. From the great world conflicts, to the more forgotten ones, the Military Museums wraps it all up in a package that is both educational and awe inspiring.
I think you'd dig it. Decommissioned tanks, old British infantry rifles, and decommissioned...
