We've been going to Free Press for lunch for years. They staff is always friendly and we've come to know them all. It's nice when staff doesn't change much and you are able to get to know them. The service is always good and the food hot and yummy.
As always, the service at the free press was fantastic. Staff are always warm and welcoming, and meals hot and fresh. Slightly disappointed with meal, blue cheese burger did not live up to past meals. My request for no onions was completed, but aside from cheese, found topping skimpy. Had two small slices of tomatoe, what amounted to one strip of bacon on one side of burger, none on other side... more
Wonderful food and very friendly service! The sandwiches and choice are excellent. Lots of variety for salads and larger entrees for dinner as well.
The staff are very cheery and helpful. They make the best tomato soup I have ever tasted. They are quick and I love going there for lunch.
The service is always fast, efficient, non-rushed, so you feel relaxed, which is great when you leave the chaos of the office. Every server we've had has always been on top of things. In the off chance that your server is busy, another one will check the other tables as they're walking around to ensure drinks are filled, food is acceptable (always great!). I would definitely highly recommend... more
The service was very prompt, efficient, not rushed, our orders were right on. We had a group of 5, made a reservation through OpenTable, when we arrived, we were seated immediately, drink orders were taken right away and delivered shortly after, our food was ordered, took about 10-15 mins for the food, our drinks were kept topped up, it was overall an excellent experience!
Great service, very underwhelmed by the decor and the food is bland.
The staff at The Free Press Bistro were amazing, they were efficient, friendly and created a warm, inviting atmosphere. The food service was excellent, our food was delivered within 15 minutes of ordering, during the peak lunch hour! Drinks were kept topped up, I would definitely go there again.
Just yesterday I went to the Free Press Bistro with my family. All of us enjoyed our meals very much! Delicious lasagna, fries, and Italian salads. I had to rate this restaurant five stars because of their friendly staff, delicious food, and quick service. This is a restaurant that everyone must go to!
Great wine list, awesome staff. Perfect patio tucked away from the D.T. core.
This restaurant is incredible the best food I ever tasted! Everything on the menu is incredible and amazing but if I had to choose 1 item off the menu I would habe to choose the cuban. This amazing cuban sandwich is bursting with flavor and is the best I have ever tasted!!!
A lunchtime staple for my coworkers and I (make reservations if you plan to go anytime around noon). A good variety of pressed sandwiches to choose from. The Cuban sandwich and home cut potato chips with lemon-dill aioli is always my top choice for lunch.
The soup and sandwich lunch combo is a great way to go and is the...

I went to the Free Press for a work lunch. I ordered the thai chicken sandwich, and it was just okay. The first few bites were great, but the bread they use has a bit of a different flavour and I didn't really like it. I know many people love the Free Press, so perhaps I'm just a non panini... more
I have been there for lunch with colleagues and it was enjoyable experience. Food was delicious and the portions were large. Service was quick and friendly, waiter made sure things were always fine. Overall, the atmosphere was relaxed.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which is connected by a walkway to this restaurant. Quiet and cozy! Must be a popular place for the locals at lunch. Ate here twice- both meals super (one take out one dine in). Very busy for lunch so reservation suggested. Russian Potatoes salad was divine, tomato soup delish, Reuben good, chicken fingers... more
Excellent home made soup & sandwich. Really enjoyed it so came back for lunch my se cond day of 2 in Edmonton. Staff friendly and efficient especially Ulrika (spelling?) will visit again next time in Edmonton
We were staying at the Holiday Inn and due to the cold and snow, ate here two nights in a row. Each night we had a bottle of wine at a great price. Husband had the schnizel and I had the sandwich special (tomato soup="the" soup and smoked salmon pressed sandwich). Portions were huge, and we both had the schnizel... more
We had lunch here the other day. We hit the bistro right at the hight of lunch hour so we had to wait for a table but as soon as we were seated we were out within 35 minutes. Sandwhiches were tasty and hearty. I enjoyed how they used a lemon dill aioli in place of mayo on alot of... more
If you like sandwiches you will be pleased! They have a large selection of those and I admit I hadn't seen such a large selection in a long time! I had the pulled pork with a side of russian potato salad. Excellent! Don't expect a high scale meal because this is not the place for it but the food is... more
My family and I ate here for lunch. We had the daily special, which was a meatball and mozzarella wrap with soup (which my daughter substituted for fries). Truthfully, she should have kept the soup, as the fries were not worth it.
Others at the table got the lamb souvlaki panini (DELICIOUS!), which came with a salad, and the Mongolian...

Food was great! Servings plentiful and good value. Limited menu but you are sure to find something you like.
The first place I go to eat while visiting Edmonton is the Free Press. Best sandwiches ever!!!
I went to this bistro with two other family members for lunch. It seemed very interesting and promising, especially with its well-rounded menu and good reviews online. We ordered the calamari as a starter. When it came, we could easily tell that it was not fresh. It came pre-fried in a box and was just refried to-order (It made me... more
I can get better pressed sandwiches down the street at Sobey's.
I walked in and the carpets were absolutely filthy at the end of June, someone could hire a company to clean them.
I ordered the salmon and it was so dry, almost like it was from the day before.
The only way I would recommend this restaurant is if you don't care about quality.
This place would be good if the paninis were about $8 and not the $13 they typically charge. The decor is 1980s Howard Johnson. Service is indifferent if not rude. Unbelievably, if you ask for something like extra mustard, you will get about a teaspoon in a cup and $2 added to your bill: an unbelievably tacky practice.
fantastic panini's and a nice little space, very busy at lunch time
Very good, especially for lunch. Nice paninis and a wide variety of fillings.
Solid paninni press sanwiches and burgers.
Great sandwiches. Delicios soup made for dipping. Yum.
Better than average panini.
The Free Press Bistro has cleverly capitalized on a theme. The New York-y atmosphere is brisk and fun, with newspaper paraphernalia everywhere, right down to the front page-style menu. So what's the big news? Pressed sandwiches (heh-heh, get it?), on ciabatta bread with a mélange of cheeses, meats and vegetables – there are about 20 different combinations, so you could conceivably eat a... more
