The coolest thing to hit "Queen west-west", has been the refurbishment of the Drake. It has become the perfect meeting place for Toronto neo-cool, post-modern alt-hipsters. Besides internet ready rooms for rent, the hotel has a cafe, a raw (sushi) bar, lounge and "The Dining room", which is home to hip fusion chef David Chrystian. Stay up late and enjoy ... more

Awesome Experience

I went to the Drake a couple weekends ago on a Saturday night for the first time. The layout of the Drake allows the average bar goer the chance to party it up to top forty on the main floor or head to the basement were you can enjoy a total different music experience. I would definitely hit up the Drake again!!

Great For A First Date!

I love the Drake Hotel, I think it is really nice and they have amazing food. It is pretty pricey, but other than that I absolutely adore giong there. I went there on a couple of first dates and I think it is a great place for a first date. It's classy, not too dark or too bright and it is relaxed and charming. I really have a good time when I go there.

Billing itself as a “hotbed for culture,” this hip West Queen West landmark packs in fashionable types who come for its upscale comfort food, underground live music space and popular rooftop patio whether or not they plan to spend the night. The 19 unique rooms range in size from “XS” (one twin bed) to “XL” (a suite) and feature original artwork, contemporary decor and glass showers, but given... more

The Drake Hotel - self-proclaimed as the city's "Hot Bed For Culture" - is a modern boutique hotel and one-stop experience that makes both nightlife lovers and design nerds soil their trousers. After its February 2004 renovation and reopening - and consequent backlash from the gentrification police - the slick hotel has now become the unofficial hub of the West Queen West district... the "de... more

A gloriously successful pet project of a dot-com millionaire, the Drake Hotel is a case study in urban gentrification. First opened in the late 19th century and expanded in 1949, the Drake fell on notoriously hard times in the '70s and '80s, along with the surrounding neighborhood of Parkdale. Its guardian angel arrived on the scene around the turn of the millennium and updated the interior... more

Despite the hype and controversy that it cleaned up Parkdale's image, The Drake is home to anti-establishment digs compared to other boutique hotels. Artists, actors, rockstars, design fiends and its hanger ons, local and abroad, use The Drake's quarters as their appropriately named crash pad. There's too much activity to even want to sleep but if one must, it will always be in style. Each of... more

Great weekend getaway
April 17, 2015

Booked a few days at the Drake as a surprise to my partner for our anniversary. The hotel staff upgraded our room from a Crash Pad to a larger Salon room on the 2nd floor and gave us 2 mini bottles of champagne, which was considerate and appreciated. We loved this hotel. It's on Queen Street West which is packed with independent shops and restaurants, and generally fantastic shopping, including the hotel's own shop which has great gifts and where hotel guests get a small discount. We were a group of 7 that ended up going to the place for Sunday brunch. I liked the ambience and the decor. However, it was annoying to have so many wasps and bees around, sitting on the food. That was definitely a bummer. Also, the server messed up my order with someone else inspite of the fact that I clarified my order when he was placing the plates on the table.

I can't wait to go back! I love its originality! So unexpected! I was stuck booking a room at the last minute and I found this old looking hotel! I took it an dkept it because my daughter told me to "live a little" and said she thought it looked cute! Well, I am so glad she convinced me to stay there!!! It is a jewel! It is clean, quaint and so, so different! I will go back again tomorrow and... more

Cool Hotel in Art & Design District
July 21, 2009

This small hotel is a cool, fun place to stay in the Queen Street West area. My room (a "crashpad") was small, but very clean and quiet. The mattress was on the firm side, which might work for most people, but I prefer a softer bed, so I had a stiff back every morning. Also, there is no elevator. The hotel is 100 percent smoke-free, which is great. There are lots of restaurants, bars, and shops... more

Can't thank them enough
June 19, 2009

My husband and I had a lovely weekend planned at the Drake, but could only stay one night due to an unforseen medical problem. We spoke with the nice people at the front desk (who, from the moment we walked in the door, made us feel at home) to explain what was happening, and they immediately offered refund our second night if we needed to leave or go to a hospital. They could not have been... more

Hip without attitude
March 30, 2009

This is one of the best boutique hotels I have stayed at. There is a reason for being there all day and night. If you are in Toronto, don't miss out by staying somewhere with a view of the water. The Drake is something special.

Drake hotel
February 08, 2009

There were rip-off elements, which spoiled the good food and atmosphere. The Drake charges an 18% compulsory gratuity on every bill and had a space for "additional tip" on the credit card receipt. They presented a one-page menu sheet that showed the "Winterlicious menu" side-by-side with a more expensive and jazzy "Drakelicious menu". Our guests didn't see the difference and ordered from the... more

A Destination in Itself
January 06, 2009

We stayed at the Drake Hotel for two nights over the holidays and were most impressed with every aspect of the hotel. We had read some reviews that the service was questionable and noise a problem, but we found the opposite. The staff could not have been more helpful (even carrying our luggage up three flights of stairs, as there is no elevator) and we we could not hear any music coming from... more

Worth the trip to Toronto
November 05, 2008

This place is awesome! If you do nothing else in Toronto it is worth it. The rooms are small but well done. They personalize the service. The food in the restaurant was great. We ate all our meals there,

Very edgy, artistic locale with friendly and accommodating staff and small, funky, yet functional rooms. So nice to be greeted by name, and to be one of only a few guests...best of the hip boutique experience so far.

September 12, 2008

We stayed for 1 night and thought the decore inside was fantastic, a nice boutique hotel. It was very trendy and had a lovely bar with lots of stylish types but couldn't hear anything from our room. The hotel has loads of quirky things about it from the decor, food choices and staff. The rooftop bar is lovely. most interesting part was what i thought was a hotel brochure but turned out to be a... more

Great place in a funky neighborhood
August 05, 2008

West Queen is a great neighborhood, a bit funky, but great for music, food and art galleries. A great area to explore on foot. The Drake is a converted older building that is very comfortable. A fantastic roof deck bar, and a nice corner cafe. The staff was very friendly and helful. I would definitely go back.

Nice trendy hotel
May 31, 2008

This is a small hotel. Trendy, modern, not a family hotel, not ideal for business visits, but nice. It has a great bar. On one day I ran into a complementary breakfast buffet, on other days I guess I was up too early or there was none. I used public transport to city center. Stops right in front of the hotel.

Excellent Hotel
January 07, 2008

We really enjoyed our stay at the Drake. The service and friendliness of the hotel was excellent. We had heard about the nightlife at the Drake so were especially curious about the Drake as a 'sleeping venue'. The rooms were stylish and trendy albeit a bit small (Crash Pad). Well worth it for the ambiance though..! Will definitely recommend to others...!

Brunch is a Toronto institution. Dont f@!k it up. Those whom the Drake has dubbed "neo-cool, post-modern alt-hipsters (no, seriously, they have)", a breed rarely seen during daylight hours, hit the streets in droves on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in search of brunch. You can spot them by their ironic sunglasses and last night's outfit. ANYWAY, these people are serious about brunch. The... more

This is a review of the Drake Cafe only. Its as far inside the Drake as Ill step on a regular basis. I hate the Drake and all it stands for. Still their cafe does have pretty good food and theyre open early. Too many Queen West spots have this lazy 11am thing going on I guess they figure real artists sleep till noon. Good coffee bagels and pastries and solid lunches with almost-reasonable... more

Cool, but not right for everyone
July 01, 2007

The Drake is, as advertised, a very cool and hip place. The Sky Yard bar is very cool and you do get the feeling that it is one of the places to be in Toronto. The rooms are also very modern and clean. However, they are also extremely small and their clever use of space cannot overcome that. They are not the kind of rooms that you want to hang out in. I would not think they would be good for... more

Hipster Paradise
June 20, 2007

If you're interested in staying in a modern, bohemian style hotel that's out of the ordinary, than this is the place for you. The building itself is very old (no elevators), but the furnishings and the way they've worked with the space is unique and doesn't make your room feel small even though there's little room for anything other than the bed. What it lacks in space, it makes up in different... more

Swanky Hotel
June 07, 2007

This is a great getaway for the "happening" crowd. The Drake is home to the hip latenight crowd, and if you're staying at the hotel, you have a free pass in. The one drawback is you have to fight through the late night line to get back to your room at night. Yes, your room key will get you by, but it's a little bit of a hassle. Also, the parking is off site - you pay at a lot across the street.... more

Part of what makes the Drake the perfect romantic retreat lies in its history. The hotel opened in 1890 as an upscale retreat for railway travelers stopping in what is now Toronto's west end. As the neighbourhood fell on hard times, the building became little more than a seedy flophouse. It stayed that way until 2001, when a new owner poured millions into renovations. Today, the Drake Hotel is... more
