The coolest thing to hit "Queen west-west", has been the refurbishment of the Drake. It has become the perfect meeting place for Toronto neo-cool, post-modern alt-hipsters. Besides internet ready rooms for rent, the hotel has a cafe, a raw (sushi) bar, lounge and "The Dining room", which is home to hip fusion chef David Chrystian. Stay up late and enjoy ... more
I went to the Drake a couple weekends ago on a Saturday night for the first time. The layout of the Drake allows the average bar goer the chance to party it up to top forty on the main floor or head to the basement were you can enjoy a total different music experience. I would definitely hit up the Drake again!!
Tagged awesome atmosphere, awesome patio, good music, great crowd, great layout, great music, loud music
I love the Drake Hotel, I think it is really nice and they have amazing food. It is pretty pricey, but other than that I absolutely adore giong there. I went there on a couple of first dates and I think it is a great place for a first date. It's classy, not too dark or too bright and it is relaxed and charming. I really have a good time when I go there.
Billing itself as a “hotbed for culture,” this hip West Queen West landmark packs in fashionable types who come for its upscale comfort food, underground live music space and popular rooftop patio whether or not they plan to spend the night. The 19 unique rooms range in size from “XS” (one twin bed) to “XL” (a suite) and feature original artwork, contemporary decor and glass showers, but given... more
The Drake Hotel - self-proclaimed as the city's "Hot Bed For Culture" - is a modern boutique hotel and one-stop experience that makes both nightlife lovers and design nerds soil their trousers. After its February 2004 renovation and reopening - and consequent backlash from the gentrification police - the slick hotel has now become the unofficial hub of the West Queen West district... the "de... more
A gloriously successful pet project of a dot-com millionaire, the Drake Hotel is a case study in urban gentrification. First opened in the late 19th century and expanded in 1949, the Drake fell on notoriously hard times in the '70s and '80s, along with the surrounding neighborhood of Parkdale. Its guardian angel arrived on the scene around the turn of the millennium and updated the interior... more
Despite the hype and controversy that it cleaned up Parkdale's image, The Drake is home to anti-establishment digs compared to other boutique hotels. Artists, actors, rockstars, design fiends and its hanger ons, local and abroad, use The Drake's quarters as their appropriately named crash pad. There's too much activity to even want to sleep but if one must, it will always be in style. Each of... more
Booked a few days at the Drake as a surprise to my partner for our anniversary. The hotel staff upgraded our room from a Crash Pad to a larger Salon room on the 2nd floor and gave us 2 mini bottles of champagne, which was considerate and appreciated. The Salon room was the size I would expect a small hotel... more
We loved out stay at the Drake. The room was large and super comfortable. We had comped champagne upon arrival.
I am still hoping to eat in their restaurant someday. I've been here twice now and both times the restaurant has been booked for a private event.
We stayed at this terrific hotel last August. From the time we checked in we were impressed with the staff. We had a very good room, but at dinner we were treated so good it made us feel awkward. However, in a nice way. We are not accustomed to this type of treatment. Every course we had the chef came out... more
The staff was so amazing, that I felt like I was coming home to my NYC apartment, every time I walked back into the hotel. Jonathan and Mark made my trip spectacular! This hotel is amazing. The room we stayed in was perfect. The design was clever and classy, and the soaps and moisturizers were divine. I especially enjoyed the caramel popcorn!!! Jonathan was wonderful to deal with. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else.
We loved this hotel. It's on Queen Street West which is packed with independent shops and restaurants, and generally fantastic shopping, including the hotel's own shop which has great gifts and where hotel guests get a small discount. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly in a low key and not overbearing way.
The rooms were not...

Really brilliant. Fantastic rooms and a great service. The atmosphere is very fun and is complimented well by the way the hotel/cafe/restaurant have all been decorated. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Toronto.
I've traveled to Toronto on business about a dozen times over past few years. My favorite place is always the Drake. Great vibe throughout hotel with great service, roof deck is a cool scene in almost all seasons, good coffee shop, excellent cocktails in lounge, and the club in their basement has fun and eclectic music. Great people watching, and... more
Hotel staff was so accommodating, Friendly, helpful
We were a group of 7 that ended up going to the place for Sunday brunch. I liked the ambience and the decor. However, it was annoying to have so many wasps and bees around, sitting on the food. That was definitely a bummer. Also, the server messed up my order with someone else inspite of the fact that I clarified my order when he was placing the plates on the table.
I was very surprised by how well this hotel was run, i will recommend it anyone. Very interesting area to spend time in
Nice place. Downstairs was under renovation or something so could only hang out on the roof patio which is great in the summer.
My friend took me to the Drake Hotel as he said me that this place is a regular go for him, so we went there and ordered fried chicken for me and he ordered Drakes burger, I want to say that the food was nice, but the service was just meh, our waiter was responding us as if we are giving him a very big task to complete. My friend said that a waiter who was familiar to him was not there and this... more
Great hotel, very individual and unique. High quality finish and service throughout. Lovely food. Perfect breakfast. It is a 2 to 3 mile walk into the city centre, we loved this, others wouldn't.
The hotel was clean, the staff was courteous and very accommodating
First of all this place is just cool – funky art adorns the walls and vintage-looking furniture give the whole place a homey feel. I came here for cocktail hour and was impressed with the house drinks (the fresh ingredients shine even in the dead of winter) and signature sushi. They also have a rooftop patio worth checking out in the summer or winter.
This place was a shot in the arm for the Queen West West area when opened nearly 2 years ago. This crazy IT dude ditched his business to open this ambitious "art, design" hotel in a sketchy area. Very ambitious, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't..but at least it is never boring!
Rooms are very small and meant for a nite of 2. This is not a place to stay a week. Also on weekends noise can be an...

I really enjoyed my stay at The Drake. Who needs to go outside? With great food, drink and live music I was really well catered for. The service s excellent too
Alot of Character but room was incredibly small. Alot of nice touches that amused me - felt very hip staying there!
The Drake is always a lot of fun, but in my most recent visit I was most impressed with my experience with the Director of Operations. I had a question about my bill and his responses were prompt, friendly and at no point made me feel like I was asking for anything unusual which I appreciated. If all Drake staff are like Matthew, you will be in great hands.
The lounge is perfect for cocktails and gourmet snacks! At happy hour the cocktails AND the sushi are discounted. I'll definitely be back.
Very lively hotel in the trendy West Queen St area - nice rooms, great bars and lively during the week and on the weekends. Good value rooms full of Malin and Goetz products - not the biggest rooms but certainly more than adequate for a couple. Be wary - expect it to be busy and noisy in the bars and restaurant - didn't stop us sleeping but it isn't for everyone. Would definitely recommend if... more
The Drake is great, always a good time and enjoyable atmosphere. Excellent food, try the sushi!
Ever since I stepped into this venue, I knew I had to have my wedding reception there. It is an old hotel (circa 1890) that was recently renovated and is now the hottest place to be in Toronto. Everyone I told that I was having my reception there was excited for me. It's got so much character, there's real art installations on the wall, the service was IMPECCABLE... my grandmother, who came... more
We had an amazing experience at The Drake from planning to day of. I can't stop bragging about how wonderful our experience was. So many of our guests have commented that we had "The coolest wedding they've ever been to" also. Not one thing went wrong on the big day, and I have nothing but great things to say about Ashley, her team and The Drake Hotel.
Thanks!

the outside patio, checked out rooftop in the evening but too busy for us (55+). We were worried we would hear noise from the bar while trying to sleep but that was no problem. Food was great. Loved the patio for breakfast and the sky bar in the evening .always seemed to be a lot of people around. Staff were very friendly. The only downside was the bathroom in the hotel room being openly visible.
This place will rock your world! Hotel - fantastic, Food - excellent, but the decor and service are the best you can get.
I had a few extra requests from the staff and ordered a couple of upgrades. The staff were completely in on the extra requests, and the upgrades were completely worth it. This is a must experience for anybody who it looking for a true experience, and not just another hotel.
We loved the in-room lotions, shampoos and conditioners. We didn't use any of the following, but we loved the pleasure menu (haha!) and the stuffed animals, alcohol, food stuffs, etc offered. The room design was amazing!! Also, most of the staff was over-welcoming and they wouldn't take any tips even though they would go to my car in the lot and renew my parking for me - at 5 AM (!!)

I went to the Drake without huge expectations regarding the food and was blown away by the great sushi menu that sits alongside the more standard Canadian fare. Cozy, on the loud side and definitely not the hip haven it used to be. Rooms are comfortable but very small.

Took my 94 yr old Auntie and she was greatly impressed to be in such a trendy spot. The riff on school days menu was lots of fun too...esp the Flakie. Plus waiter was great.ps the one supplementary washroom on main floor was much appreciated,
Very flavorful food, went there for their summerlicious menu. Staff was very courteous, and patio was nice. Kind of expensive, however.
this place is cool, not a family place or a place to go if you need accessibility, but it's a great spot in a great neighborhood.
Our entire experience at the Drake was incredible! I ate every meal, snack and drank every coffee at one of the Drake's cafe, lounge or bar! An incredible vibe, cool staff and super unique rooms! thank you
While the staff and location were great, I found the hotel dark, gloomy and strange. I am from a rural area and didnt like it at all. Parking was terrible, but thats Toronto.
I loved the ambience of this hotel - it was a brilliant way to be introduced to Canada. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were amazing and the food at the restaurant - although a little pricey was worth it.
Amazing dinner at the drake for their "summer school" menu. The food was fantastic and it's always a great vibe at the drake!

This small hotel is a cool, fun place to stay in the Queen Street West area. My room (a "crashpad") was small, but very clean and quiet. There were rip-off elements, which spoiled the good food and atmosphere. The Drake charges an 18% compulsory gratuity on every bill and had a space for "additional tip" on the credit card receipt. West Queen is a great neighborhood, a bit funky, but great for music, food and art galleries. A great area to explore on foot. The Drake is a converted older building that is very comfortable. This is a small hotel. Trendy, modern, not a family hotel, not ideal for business visits, but nice. It has a great bar. On one day I ran into a complementary breakfast buffet, on other days I guess I was up too early or there was none. I used public transport to city center. Stops right in front of the hotel.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Drake. The service and friendliness of the hotel was excellent. We had heard about the nightlife at the Drake so were especially curious about the Drake as a 'sleeping venue'. The rooms were stylish and trendy albeit a bit small (Crash Pad). Well worth it for the ambiance though..! Will definitely recommend to others...!
funkified glorious cool in a lively hip part of town.
Brunch is a Toronto institution. Dont f@!k it up. Those whom the Drake has dubbed "neo-cool, post-modern alt-hipsters (no, seriously, they have)", a breed rarely seen during daylight hours, hit the streets in droves on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in search of brunch.
