Love the atmosphere of The Bauer Kitchen! I think its a really good date spot. I ordered the TBK salad with salmon and loved it! Highly recommend :) My friend got the short rib gnocci and said it was good, but he said that he quickly got tired of the taste while eating it. I really want to come back here to try their brunch (eggs benedict looks so good!).
At one point this place was quite nice but there has been an observable decline in quality. Most of the meals looked and tasted like they were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long and most likely were. Service is fine but there are many far superior options in the KW region than this.
For a restaurant business that is suppose to be local you'd expect it to be better than your typical Keg or other Steakhouse chains, but it isn't any better and might even be worse. It didn't live up to my expectations. When I was there it felt like a more expensive Beer Town (and matter of fact Beer Town is owned by the same people) with more fancy and meals that fit into the more fine dining... more
Decent food, pretty well done and a fair variety. Pretty good staff overall. "Trying a bit too hard" in terms of trying to be trendy, and a bit expensive compared to others in the region serving almost the same fare. Unfortunately, noisy as hell at times, almost unbearable between the crowd noise and the pumped up music, not a place to go expecting a nice quiet evening and conversation during... more
Used to love this place but the food quality has gone down so much. It's a real shame, and I go there almost once every 2 weeks.
Ordered a soup, it was cold and the waiter didn't tell us there was only about half a bowl left in the pot... He then proceeded to do nothing about it.
Dishes aren't as flavorful or even close to being what they used to be.
Consistently great food and service. One of my favourite restaurants in Waterloo. This visit we tried the duck confit wings after hearing someone rave about them. Holy c@!p they are good. I will probably order them every single time I go now.
I've been here several times since moving to Waterloo recently, which speaks to how much I like it. The service is always friendly and helpful, and the food is consistently good. From paninis to salads to omelettes to unbelievable chocolate brownies, I've never been disappointed. And their short rib gnocchi deserves its own separate shout out for making me legitimately consider going back to... more
I like Plain Jane meat-and-potatoes meals, but I like those meals to taste really, REALLY good. TBK is the spot for that. Margaritas were hand squeezed and a perfect mix. Steak was tasty throughout. Fries were seasoned slightly but not offensively. We had a chocolate thing for dessert...can't remember the name (the margaritas were so good, we ordered a few...) but it was interesting and good.
The food is really great so don't mistake the three star rating on that. The reason for the three stars is due to the price. Unless you are going for the brunch special, the price is outrageous for the amount of food that you get. I found myself craving a trip to the BK lounge after a wallet crippling experience here.
Decent food. Had a pork cut with apple sauce. Not much else is memorable besides nice decor and an awesome waiter.
I got the wagyu burger and the calamari for dinner that night. Both were delicious! I got some sweet potato fries with my burger and well.. sweet potato fries are always awesome. I also couldn't be more impressed with the service. The server was at the table frequently and was super friendly. The food came pretty quick as well. Conveniently they also have free parking right outside.
Went with wife and kids on March Break, I was curious to see how the Old Bauer factory was transformed.
Kids ordered off the kids menu, wife had the special which was a Salmon pasta dish and I ordered the Short Rib. We also ordered a Calamari to start. What impressed me was the thought the preparation and the freshness in everything, even with the dinner rolls. Our server Ryan was great ...he...

Enjoyed a really good meal here last night. Love the look of the restaurant.. Service was friendly and prompt.. The BTK salad is excellent.. Penne a la vodka was tasty also.. Was recommended a really good Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand that paired nicely with the salad. My friend enjoyed the Moroccan chicken.. Look forward to coming back here soon!
We have visited this restaurant many times, as we live quite close by. We have yet to be disappointed. While we have sampled a good portion of their menu, we most often come back to the thin crust pizzas. They are wonderful, and reasonably priced. An evening with two mains, some drinks and dessert can come in under $100, which is relatively reasonable.
The decor is industrial and the kitchen...

Recommend Appetizers: French onion fondue, Steak tartare, and the Dumplings
Mains: Braised short rib, All burgers, Duck confit

The team at Bauer never cease to amaze me. Each visit I am made to feel like a family member returning home. The culinary team provides Kitchener/Waterloo with extraordinary menus for weekend brunch, lunch, supper and late night snacks.
If you enjoy being served by the best group of professionals in the region, Bauer is the place.
My favourite meals include the chicken dumplings, all of the...

A run of the mill western restaurant with decent food and drinks. Some of their items are unique, but most of them are just decent. I really like their duck wings... The items in my opinion are a bit over priced, and some of the staff are a bit pretentious.
The food was decent, the portions maybe a little small. I think since the ambience is so good I expected, perhaps, the food to be a little better. Very good service, no complaints there.Overall, it was a really nice date night place. Also happy that it's kid friendly, I find that adds to the experience.
The staff was very nice. I requested some little changes on my order and there was no problem at all to accommodate me. I have been there several times, alone and with a group and it was always very good.
the service was very slow. it took forever to get our apps. then when we did get them one of them was cold . it even took longer to get our entres. my husbands was tastless and his mussels were full of sand.
Entertaining out of towers from a metropolitan centre; where do we dare to compare? Proud of our relatively small centre, TBK represents a step up from the roadhouse or chain establishments and therefore offers a comparative big, citified experience. No embarrassment here. So thank you management.
However, embarrassed to find we are too much like a big city, on returning to the car. Ten minutes...

Excellent service, great food, quiet and private place to discuss business
The food here is top notch. It has a menu that you are sure to find quite enjoyable whether you are with a family or out on a romantic date.
Our appetizers were great but our dinners were nothing special
My husband orders blanco pizza and it was very bland. I ordered fish and chips. Fries were over cooked and fish was so gross, did not like batter at all. Never finished it. I put that it was our anniversary on reservation and nothing was mentioned. Should have just stuck with appetizers. Last time was much better
Food was good, didn't wait long. Service could have been better but overall a great place. Decor was great. Would definitely go back.
Pre-birthday celebration was thoroughly enjoyed with both the excellent service and food. I enjoyed the romaine salad, as well as a specialised pizza. Both items were superb! The waitress proceeded to compliment the meal with cake (knowing it was pre-birthday dinner). I will definitely return (and recommend)!
Had the very best steak tartar in the past 3 years. Not just your run off the mill steak tartar. This one was presented on a wood board with multiple sides and a raw egg on top. It was a Perfect presentation and the interaction, combination I could made out was just icing on the cake. Not normally on the menu but hopefully they will consider adding it.
Booked this for our 20th anniversary and they looked after us very well. Noted my request on the booking and had all "extra" details covered. Food and table spot were fantastic. Enjoyed the entire experience!
Our group of 5 sat out on the patio on a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Server was excellent and the food was very creative and exceptional quality. Would love to go back for dinner some evening because the interior looks like it would make for a great experience as well. Look forward to going back.
We enjoyed every bite of our pasta and pork chop. The drinks are great, the service is great; we will be back for a 2 year anniversary.
Definitely will return. Excellent experience. Our party of six enjoyed our dinners.
We love TBK. Food is consistently outstanding, and so is the service.
Great food and service. Nice place for a group also!
You can always count on good food and service at Bauer Kitchen. The Patio in the summer is great.
Father's day was the reason we were there but it was all about mommy! The food was so delicious. My 4 year old had the kids french toast which cut like butter and she ate every bite, my husband enjoyed a large burger and sweet potato fries and I had the delicious short rib gnocchi. Every bite was flavored perfectly. Even the two year old's pizza was good. And the watermelon mojito...yum!
Very nice food presentation, and atmosphere (child friendly) also with a bar perfect for dad's watching the world cup. Great waitress and food tasted great. Definitely recommend this restaurant for those trying something new as well pretty affordable.
Food was very reasonably priced, so was our alcholic drink with fresh fruit. Out appetizer was brought to us, missing the bacon jam and it was replaced with bacon. Maybe because I'm young they thought they could pull one over on me, but I told my server and he went to find out the problem. Turns out they ran out of bacon jam and instead of asking me if it's ok they gave me strips of bacon...... more

I've been wanting to come here for a while and I finally found a reason to. They were very accommodating in fitting our large group and we were seated promptly.

I made a reservation for my parents and I to celebrate my university graduation. Our experience was phenomenal from start to finish! We started with the French Onion Fondue which was great, the highlight of the meal. For the main, I had had the pickerel special. It was bland with little or no seasoning. The side was a couscous that again was flavourless and oily. My companions had... more

TBK is my go to place. It is consistent. From the welcoming smiles when you walk in to the "have great night" when I waddle my full belly to my car.

Went to Bauer Kitchen for our anniversary, the service was excellent, food was outstanding with a different of food and appetizers selection than most other restaurants. But the personal service we received put this meal over the top
Very nice ambience, decent menu. The striploin steak was a bit tough, the desserts were delicious, the salad was good. Good wine list.
Love the steak tartar. Too bad they only offer for two weeks during the Wholly Cow weeks.
I've been to Bauer Kitchen for both lunch and dinner; I've enjoyed both, but their lunches have been better in terms of the consistency of food. My most recent visit -- lunch on the patio -- was very pleasant: the food (hamburger and side romaine salad, $ 15) and service (attentive, ice water refilled, prompt) were good. Everytime I come to Bauer Kitchen I'm always pleasantly surprised by how good the food/service is here. There is nothing wrong with The Bauer Kitchen but I did not find it remarkable. The food was good, I had to ask for sour cream with my nachos though and the portions of food can be somewhat small, though my friends who have been there debate this. My daughter had heard about this restaurant and wanted to come for her 18th birthday dinner. The prices were very reasonable and the food was very good. The Bauer Kitchen looks pretty but don't be fooled by the gorgeous interior - it may resemble an up-scale establishment but this is merely a thin veneer disguising an otherwise sub-par establishment.

I was a little wary of this place as I had visited a few years ago for lunch and was disappointed, but four of us visited for Sunday brunch and it was delicious. We were pleased with the service, and all enjoyed our brunch selections. I had eggs benny - really yummy! Would come back again.
A friend wanted to go there for brunch today so we decided to give it another try. First, it was obvious that our waitress really didn't care about what she was doing - very poor table presence. There is a lot to like about Bauer Kitchen. The beautiful industrial interior with touches of a barn/country motif. Menu items with slight twists like banh mi burgers and duck wings. Love the ambience, the glass kitchen, the food and the service. This is one of our lunch and early dinner favorites, be in the gnocchi with braised beef, the burger or the duck confit. It might be noisy later when full, but we have not been there when it was full.
Dined here with colleagues while visiting the area. The food was excellent, great ambience, and the service was fantastic.
Of the many times I've visited TBK I have to say I have only had one less then perfect experience. The staff is always welcoming and gracious while the good creates a sophisticated twist on many classic local favorites. As much as I could go on all day about the food, it is only made that much better by the vintage distillery decor and amazing overly generous cocktails.
I read a review of this hidden gem and decided to check out The Bauer Kitchen for myself. Steak was cooked perfectly, and deserts were also perfectly done. Very professional and nice atmosphere, the perfect restaurant for fancy parties or celebrations.
Love the TBK (The Bauer Kitchen) omelette and vanilla bean latte. Surprised that this place isn't more busy for breakfast; the food quality and taste is consistently good to merit it.
The food and service was amazing!
Service:
It was a semi-busy night and our waitress was attentive and came by multiple times to re-fill our drinks and ask us how the food was. When our food was taking slightly long, without us even complaining, the waitress and the manager came by at separate times to lets us know the status of our food and apologized.
When our group finished the bread in the...

We've been to the Bauer Kitchen several times. It's another great restaurant in the Charcoal Group.
Started with the harvest salad. Great mix of flavours and textures in the salad.
Sirloin steak for entree. Cooked perfectly. Shallot sauce was nice.
Only downside in this visit was the service. Our server was efficient and attentive but lack sincerity. She seemed to...

I'm giving this restaurant 3 out of 5 almost exclusively for the design and service. For a place in Waterloo, this place exudes class and urbanity that is severely lacking in other restaurants. The service we received was great, good at confirming vegetarian options with the kitchen, and the wine list was well above average.
The food was good, but it wasn't great. I ordered the funghi pizza...

My husband and I arrived a few minutes after 6 pm on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation and were told they were quite booked, but that they could accommodate us in the bar area. We were fine with that and selected a high top table.
The server arrived promptly to take our drink order, red wine for...

I have come here several times for full meals to just appetizers and, of course, a good bottle of wine. In an area with few restaurants offering much more than house - ie. boxed - wines, the Bauer Kitchen clearly has a well constructed selection.
Friendly staff, professional kitchen, and a good atmosphere - a worthy venture to be sure.
Awesome brunch menu and reasonable priced for what you get. Great atmosphere and great price!
We'll be back.
My wife and I made a reservation for a Friday night to check out Bauer Kitchen for the first time. We showed up early to have a beer at the bar and to take in the atmosphere a little bit. We both really loved the feel of the place, dimly lit, dark woods, little rustic yet with a slight polish. Bartender was very nice and friendly, quick to serve us and was able to suggest a beer that was really... more

My how you have changed from my "studious" days as a WLU undergrad. The fine dining landscape has certainly improved in little over 4 years (or 5...my oh my I'm ageing at a rapid rate). However, with age comes an appreciation for the finer things in life such as good food, good wine, good company, etc. So I guess this is why my overall experience at The...

Had a steak here and it was excellent. A full course meal is pricey for students - but its worthwhile if you get a chance.
I've been coming to Bauer since it opened and my last visit on Friday evening compelled me to finally review it. As many have mentioned, they have a great wine list and a decent cocktail menu. But, also mentioned by many others, the noise level is an issue at times. I'd never found it loud in the past, but on Friday they had a DJ spinning crummy beats, at 9:00 p.m. Many people were eating... more
Went to Bauer Kitchen for a large group dinner (about a dozen ppl). Service was excellent and they wisely assigned several 'helpers' in addition the main waiter. I also appreciated that they didn't force an automatic tip.... this actually resulted in them getting a higher tip than they might have otherwise.
Food was delicious, and in the Kitchener-Waterloo area it's one of the nicer places....
