I love Thai food and have eaten at some excellent Thai restaurants throughout Canada and the U.S. This one rates a grade of 'B' by comparison. To be fair, it is probably difficult to get the correct sorts of ingredients here in the Maritimes. However, given what they have to work with, the chefs at Suwanna do a reasonably good job. Elsewhere, I would give it three stars.
The best Thai food in the province, maybe the Maritimes! I haven't had a bad dish att he restaurant over the past 5 years or so.
Love their curries and Pad Thai. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. A great place for a gathering of friends and family. 5 stars!
The food is fantastic.... must try the satay's, som tam salad, massaman curry, and for dessert the white eugene cake. I promise you won't regret this meal!!!
Best Food!!My favorite Ginger Chicken and special rice.Fan since the original restaurant in Stanley. Susan
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone ! My family and I have eaten here 10+ times, mostly for special occasions and it is always delicious. The Suwanna Chicken is excellent and any of the curries, especially the Massaman Curry, are all delicious. I have Celiacs disease and the food is almost all gluten free so its really easy... more
The food is awesome! We have tried many different dishes and I would recommend all! We had a laugh at one of the duck dishes it was a bit hotter ,my brother was on fire!l. Lol. I wouldn't bring little kids.
I avoid eating out if at all possible since I have celiac and most places don't even know what gluten is. When I heard that Suwanna's has Gluten Free food, I though we'd give it a try. Turns out 95% of the menu is Gluten Free! Food was amazing our server was fantastic and knowledgeable regarding the gluten issue. Can't... more

This past Saturday evening, my husband and I made up a table for six at Suwanna.
We have dined at Suwanna on many occasions as it is the favourite restaurant of the friends with whom we dine out the most. We have never had a bad meal at Suwanna, however, this past Saturday evening was, without a doubt, the BEST...

I went last night with a group, and it was my second time at this establishment. It was absolutely FREEZING cold, which I found both times, and there is nothing that the wait staff can do. Be prepared to dine with your parka.
I also have several food allergies, and the waitress was working with the chef and I to...

My client took me for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. When we arrived, we were the only guests. They explained it was usually full and it became more busy shortly after our arrival. Living in Toronto, there are several excellent Thai restaurants and I've also been to Thailand on a few occasions so I can say with confidence that... more
Been here a few times now and I've not yet been disappointed. Food is wonderfully flavorful and service is always great. I love the house which the restaurant is in. It adds so much character.
Susanna restaurant is currently ranked number one in St. John. Why? The building in which the restaurant is located is a large old residence, converted into a restaurant. That could be charming, but in this case it's just shabby. Granted, there was a group using the main dining room. Still, when you enter you notice peeling paint and get a... more
I had another great tip to Suwanna last night with 10 other people and everyone enjoyed there meals. We had the appetizer combo which you have to ask for as I believe it is not on the menu. It is $9 per person and everyone gets to try 4 different appetizers including their famous carrot and cabbage salad.

Suwanna has been a favorite of mine for a few years now. Each and everytime I go, the food is delicious, and service is great. If you go, I recommend trying the appetizer platter which you would split with at least one other person. It's amazing, and a great way to try a little of everything. I enjoy so many... more
Love this place. The Suwanna Chicken, veg Pad Thai and Curries are excellent. I always go with a group of girls and the service is terrific. The cabbage salad worth the visit.
Most amazing Thai food ever!!!!!!
Beautiful restaurant in an old
Inn. Fantastic service and
Very knowledgable!!!!
Dined here with friends. It's situated in an old home. The back dining room has water views in the background. The food was very good. Enjoyed all of our dishes. Not too spicy.
This is our favorite restaurant in the city. We always spend our special evenings here (birthday's, anniversary's etc.) The Maasaman curry is our absolute favorite, it is out of this world!!!
My wife and I visited Suwanna on a whim and it paid off. The food, service and atmosphere were very good. We had some green curry dishes and they were a nice change to our normal eating habits. My wife now is a fan of curried food and she enjoyed her meal very much, she was not a fan of curry... more
I was pleased to be invited to a birthday dinner being held at Suwanna last weekend. There were ten people in attendance, eight adults and two very well behaved children. The meal was excellent and so was the service.
I am a great fan of Pad Thai (theirs does NOT have Cilantro, which I hate!) and you can get it...

Suwanna's is a great place for groups. The restaurant is in an old house with lots of character. The food is always good but there are so many choices it is good to go with a group so you can order several items and share. Prices are in the mid to high range.
Great Thai food, would go more often but they seem to need reservations and i never plan that far ahead... Love to share multiple varieties with a group of friends
I am really quite surprised with our dining experience last Friday night. This is suppossed to be one of the nicest restaurants in Saint John. My wife and I picked this restaurant for our 7th wedding anniversary because we had both attended here together when we first met and as well she had attended multiple times before. The house/restaurant are... more
We drove to Suwanna from Fredericton for a dinner out with friends who had been to Suwanna before. No idea what to expect. We drove into the yard of a very Victorian looking old home. Welcomed right away by a friendly lady who quickly escorted us to our seats. Seats overlooked the Reversing Falls which was pretty. Ordered the satay... more
My Girfriend and I recently dined here on a trip to Saint John. The restaurant offered incredible, tasty food. The service was great and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
It was my first visit to Suwanna the service was great, the food incredible. We were very impressed with the service and food. Immense flavour experience.
The flavours of the food are wonderful, very tasty and not over done. The staff is extremely friendly and cater to your wishes. If more rice is needed at your table it is brought promptly at no additional charge. Although there is no “take out” you leftovers are packed for you to take home.
Great atmosphere. The food is wonderful from mildly hot to very hot(spicey)meals. The restaurant is in an old house, but it is lovely inside. The service is excellent
Can't say enough good things about this place. I started going just after it opened and am still coming back for more. The food is incredible, the service is impeccable and the atmosphere is top notch (although not what you would expect in a Thai themed restaurant). Love this place so much it disappoints me to see any negative reviews... more
We went here based on reviews here, and local recommendations. Food was decent but not anything remotely resembling genuine Thai food...and in fact the owner and chef is Swiss, according to our server. Not unpleasant food, but mediocre quality and presentation. I have had as good in mall food courts, sad to say.
And the ambiance is a bit strange...

We had another great meal here. It never disappoints. It is the best Thai restaurant in the city and consistently good.
I travel quite a bit and tend to seek out Thai restaurants. I am yet to find a place that overall provides such a consistent quality of food as Suwanna's. Each dish is made to order and Jaruwan wields her craft expertly. I probably go there far too often but cannot help keep coming back: best, most consistent good food... more
Best Thai restaurant in New Brunswick! The service is good. The food is always cooked with the most fresh ingredients. It can be slow on a busy night, especially later in the evening.
Have never had a bad meal from this restaurant. Food quality is always high, staff are not only friendly and courteous, but know the menu inside out and can help navigate new dishes.
The Massaman curry is the best I have tasted anywhere in the World (and I have spent a good deal of time in Asia), and the Dragon Eggplant chicken has to be experienced, it can not be explained. Best way to...

OK, I admit it, I am a bit of a fussy eater and I hate curry with a passion! This being said, I LOVE Suwanna. (I just don't get the Curry). Actually, I am a creature of habit and almost always choose Pad Thai (either chicken or shrimp). There are many excellent non-curry dishes on the menu, and my husband... more
Among the best Thai in Atlantic Canada. You'll need to get a reservation - despite it's peculiar location. Don't expect a Thai decor (it's in an old victorian home) - but the food is absolutely amazing.
Hands down my favourite restaurant in the World, always excellent service, extremely high food quality, love the atmosphere.
Suwanna is still our favorite restaurant. The food is incomparable. Always fresh, always tasty, consistently wonderful. We have so many favorite dishes and it's the one restaurant where we always love to go and never tire of it. Try the matsaman curry, som tam salad and sooo many great dishes...everything is wonderful!
We had dinner here on our way to Cape Breton. We almost didn't go in because we were in our 'traveling clothes' and it looked fancy but we are glad we did. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.
What a delicious meal! The best meal we had during our whole trip.
I make it a point to go to Suwanna everytime I come to New Brunswick. I have never tasted it's equal. It's a New Brunswick treasure!
Six of us drove down from Fredericton (about and hour drive) for a nice supper and it did not disappoint. Our server was great, the food was superb and lots of it. The price was also very reasonable. I would have to say one of the better places to go for Thai cuisine. Love the food, prices are fair and the staff are really nice
Our family, including two small children, has eaten at Suwanna's a few times and we enjoy it every time. The food is fresh and delicious and there is lots to choose from for every taste. My children enjoy Thai food and this does not disappoint. Try it with your family and you will not be disappointed.
We arrived at 5pm when the restaurant opened and were seated by a window with a great view. The owner was very welcoming and our waitress was knowledgeable and recommended an appetizer combo with a little bit of everything since it was my first time this was perfect but not too much that it took away for the main courses.... more
Wonderful experience with my first taste of Thai food! Anniversary dinner was there - he gave me a diamond over wine at the table, the waitress made a huge fuss, made it even more special. Food was very good
Unbelievably good food. The masaman curry is fantastic and they have a simple peanut and carrot salad that's amazing. Oddly enough, they have a fantastic selection of Swiss desserts (although you'll be too stuffed from the fantastic food.) The restaurant is a restored Victorian home, so it's more intimate than most restaurants.
I had the pleasure of dining with 8 clients at Suwanna's. We asked for appetizer plates which arrived very quickly at the table and were amazing, especially the peanut sauce..YUM! The group shared 7 different dishes, all were amazing but the best was the green curry and duck. The setting is in an old inn on the West side of... more

Great Thai food , needs a little work for that warm feeling of Splash . Number one if you are going for the food experience.
I find myself going to Suwanna and wanting to order 5 meals so that I can have a week's worth of incredible food. My favourite treat is the curry duck - I can't even begin to describe the flavours! The service is great, though the atmosphere could be better. But the food is just too incredible!!!
The Suwanna is one of the best dining experiences in the Maritimes, the service is wonderful, the owners work almost every night and are friendly and always ensure that everyones dining experience goes well .

This is my favourite restaurant in Saint John but it is difficult to book on short notice.
Suwanna is amazing! It's always our first choice for special occasions but take my advice...call ahead to make a reservation. They're always booked.
Suwanna is best enjoyed with a group so you can try more of their wonderful dishes.
My husband and I have dined at Suwanna many, many times and enjoy the Thai food immensely. When our children and grandchildren visit at Christmas or the summertime, we make a party of it and go as a group. It's unanimous - we all love it. We do, however, have one minor complaint. The restaurant's exterior is in need of some TLC. The gardens are "sad" and the front sidewalk is need of a good... more
The food at this establishment is superb! Wonderful curry dishes; great selection; helpful servers who explain (if you need it) what each dish is.
Tasty, great presentation.
It is this restaurant on which I base my opinion of all others. Thai has become my food of choice since first sampling leftovers from Suwanna as part of a dinner my wife attended ten years ago. Their amazing curries (red curry with chicken is my favourite), Pad Thai and Keo Crob are, in my opinion, the reason humans evolved having tastebuds (Note: This is only a theory). Nothing compares!
