I wanted to give this place a 3 star rating for the food but we've only eaten here once and it is a lovely restaurant, with great ambiance and a beautiful patio sitting right on the water. Service was good, nothing exceptional, but good. As for food, my boyfriend really enjoyed his fish and chips (halibut) and he is an avid fish and chips lover, however my Fusion Tuna Salad was a bit if a... more
Three very happy diners. Such a beautiful spot, close to Sooke Harbour, and the food was spot on. The fish (delicious perfectly battered halibut) and chips were especially good.
Awful awful awful. I have been here exactly 3 times and each time sorely disappointed. I gave it 3 years and went back last night, only to have it worse than before. No clue how they stay open. I was with a date (note to waitresses: take note of the flow conversations and don't interrupt every couple minutes) so I couldn't complain but my medium rare steak was completely overdone and despite... more
Fantastic food with a fantastic view of the bay! The best patio in spoke by far. Such a great place to hang out and eat great food. Make sure you stop by.
Loved it. The food takes time to prepare; it was generous and yummy. We were able to sit outside looking over the lovely view of water and trees, and to tie our dog in a nice, shady spot right next to our table, outside the seating area. The waitress even asked if he needed water. Attentive and positive staff, efficient service, very nice food. (We had burgers, the steak sandwich, and the... more
Good food, service was great, but time to print some new menus, the ones we got were really beat up and starting to get delaminated.
Fantastic view of the bay from the resteraunt. I enjoyed the "The Banks", which was very tasty halibit burger. My lunch buddy got "The Hungry Logger", which was massive meat " all the meats" burger.
It's very much pub food, but there is enough selection for everyone.
Food and service was good. Views are really great and a nice place for a small family dinner or lunch. Reserve as seating is limited.
The location is beautiful, the food great and the service wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves before our drive to Port Renfrew. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Nice restaurant in Sooke, yummy food, great views and atmosphere. I will admit service can sometimes be slow depending on who is working and how busy they are but the food and view is worth it. If you don't come expecting to be in and out fast and relax and enjoy the view it isn't that bad.
I really loved the decor and vibe of this place as well as the outdoor views! The food was good - we went twice during our visit. My husband got the fish sandwich one night and I had chicken, yam fries, and veggies. Very good burgers.
We stopped by the Stickleback today for lunch. We stood around for awhile until a server told us we could just sit anywhere, so we chose a table. Nobody brought us menus, and nobody approached us at all while we sat at the table. We gave up and left after fifteen minutes of being ignored. (And over half the restaurant... more
My family enjoyed a nice quiet dinner in this lovely restaurant with great views. I had the mussels and they were yummy! The wait staff was very helpful.
Despite the beautiful location and view, we were disappointed with the quality of food and lack of service. My husband and I chose this restaurant after reading the great reviews on Tripadvisor. My husband ordered a burger with yam fries which was mediocre for 15.00. I ordered the Teriyaki bowl which the waitress said it came with rice noodles, but... more
We were lucky enough to get a seat on the patio for the four of us that had lots of room to pull up a highchair for the toddler in our group. The waitress brought our drinks very quickly and some colouring for the toddler. Because it was brunch time we ordered a variety of breakfast and lunch items and... more
We ate here twice in the last month and on both occasions the food was very good and the service attentive. It's nice to eat out on the patio if it's warm enough, which we did. You can see eagles and herons and seals from the patio and watch the kayakers coming and going. We had the mussels, clams and... more
Have eaten lunch at this restaurant a few times over the last 6 months and find that the food and service quality is consistent. Very pleased with all different lunches eaten here. The burgers don't drip! Wraps are delicious. Seafood chowder is very tasty and filled with seafood! Salads are fresh. No negatives. Great friendly service. Will need to go... more
We have been here for nearly a week and just keep going back to this great little spot on the water! Excellent service, lovely atmosphere and yummy food that we could both enjoy. Highly recommend the cheesy bannock Appy and the halibut fish and chips is amazing. Nothing else really compares in Sooke for low key atmosphere, delicious food, and... more
Had a great Friday lunch at Stickleback for a party of four on the outside patio after our Adrena LINE Zipline adventure. One of our AdrenaLine guides had taken class right next door to Stickleback and recommended it, so we figured it would probably be good. Good selection, great presentation and service. Beautiful location on the Bay.
Absolutely the best Restaurant in Sooke, located on Vancouver Island located just outside of Victoria.
This eatery has a beautiful location and the patio has wonderful views! The menu offers something for everyone. It is located just outside of Sooke and very close to the Galloping Goose Bike trail. We arrived on bikes and had made the 80 KM round trip cycling from Victoria just to dine here and enjoy the outdoor patio. Service was... more
Dining room has good views of a little cove, and the patio is lovely even on a cloudy day. Menu is varied, good prices, good wine and beer selection. Seafood soup was excellent, Galloping Goose burger was tasty, well presented, good size serving, and the slow roasted pork sandwich with a side salad was excellent. Service was prompt, kitchen was... more
Sticklebacks seems to have found the combination after two previous restaurants in this location folded after about a year each. You can either eat inside or on a great patio overlooking Cooper's Cove; this is especially inviting on a sunny day. This time we went for dinner, just as the sun was going down, so opted for inside which initially... more
We didn't realize when we arrived at this restaurant that we would walk out with such an admiration for the staff and food quality. Kim, our server, was so friendly and accommodating that she deserves the customer service award for the month. We ordered "The Dock"...if you're really hungry and want to share between 2 people, this is the one... more
I've been going to stickleback since it opened but I have been going less and less since the food is subpar. I haven't gone since last year so I thought I would give stickleback a second chance as I love to support local resturants..... wish I didn't. I ordered their drink special 'melon mojito', all I tasted was soda water;... more
My daughter and I were driving back to Victoria and she wanted to eat somewhere with a water view. After discovering the Sooke Harbour House does not do lunch on Saturday, we pulled into the Stickleback parking lot. We were pleasantly surprised with the fresh décor and the day was nice enough to sit out on the patio, right by... more
Just came off a tour at adrena line and the guide recommended the place. Nice staff and great food! Thanks! Try the spicy noodle bowl!
We had fish and chips for lunch here and it was excellent. We sat on the patio overlooking the water and service was quick and friendly. Our friends had the mushroom burger and hippie sandwich and thought it was excellent as well.
Delicious food. Fabulous service. Unbeatable view. -- Best patio in CRD Victoria!
We ate here once during our visit to Sooke. Whilst the food was fine, there was little to no atmosphere. Perhaps it is better to try it for lunches during the daytime.
Good food and beautiful view of the Olympic mountains. Slow service, but view of small bay made up for it.
Visited on a Sunday lunch time with family. Get a window table to admire the lovely view of the small natural harbour. The menu offers some traditional options and also some interesting alternatives and twists, which is good to see. The food arrived promptly and tasted great, the prices are fair. Worth dropping in for food if your in the... more
Had a great night at the Stickleback...wing night on a Thursday is always good. Service was great as always.
Stickleback was recommended by a friend of a friend, so since we had some other business in Sooke, we though it was worth a try.
The setting is very pretty, on a little cove with a dock and an outdoor adventure school (the students were bustling around and provided some entertainment beyond the view), the room is OK, but a...

There's not too much to the pretty little community of Saseenos, but The Stickleback would glow even in a busy downtown core. The setting is beautiful, right in the mouth of Cooper's Cove off of Sooke Road, and I can hardly wait for the weather to warm so I can spend an entire day on their waterfront patio running down... more
We decided to have our New Year's Eve dinner here. We took in the 3 course dinner. We came for the 7:30 pm sitting. The service was unbelievably slow and we nearly gave up around 8 pm when we hadn't had anyone come by our table. When we finally did order, it took a very long time to get our... more
I have been to the stickleback about 5 times. my experience varies every visit. its never busy there so service should be top notch right? WRONG snails pace is what you will get and they are consistent. the food however is always great. specials are always yummy. I did however visit once and the owners child was running around the... more
Eating lunch and/or dinner on the patio overlooking the water was very beautiful. we ate there2 times in our 4 day visit to Sooke.
We spent a day travelling up the coast to Port Renfrew and came across this restaurant by chance. The location is great. We enjoyed the food very much - plenty of it and well cooked. The menu was also very varied. We found the staff very friendly and we didn't find this to be any more or less expensive than... more
We enjoyed a great evening sitting outside enjoying the sunset while we savored a glass of wine and good food. We highly recommend Stickelback!
The food was all right, but not for the price. We waited a long while to be greeted or seated, then shoved into a small patio space with a bistro table. We moved ourselves to a larger table and switched out the flimsy plastic chairs...really, different chairs would go a long way.
After watching a young waiter almost trip a...

great menu, excellent vegetarian options and great service. the prices were great and the decor relaxed and funky.
Tasty broth, with shrimp nestled in there....not a huge portion, but enough if you get extra bannock!
We stumbled upon the great spot for lunch east of Sooke while daytripping from Victoria. We had driven by it on the way into Sooke and doubled back after driving through the rest of town finding little else on the water. We were glad we came back! Huge menu with something for everyone. Many filling sandwiches, wraps, bowls and more!... more
We stopped at the Stickleback Eatery while vacationing in Sooke and we were very pleased. The food and drinks were delicious and the service wonderful. If you get a chance to sit out on the patio during a sunny day you will not be disappointed.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunchtime dining experience here! Great scenic location and delicious food! We look forward to coming back during our next visit to Sooke!
Went to this Restaurant this past weekend with a friend! Not impressed. The food was not of good quality, the washrooms(who knows when cleaned) The service was standard. But the owners need to take some pride in this Restaurant and do something about it to bring it up to the Standard of a descent restaurant to frequent! Location is good... more
Super friendly attentive staff, unique meal items, gorgeous patio. Obviously very busy high paced summertime flow, it was packed! But servers still kept their cool and were very courteous. I had the best fish and chips ever! served with polenta fries and braised cabbage. All the cocktails and burgers were named after local sooke attractions :) Great ambience.. I liked... more
Scott, we made the mistake of choosing your Eatery after enjoying an afternoon at the Fine Arts Show. We were welcomed politely and promptly seated. The waiter was attentive and appetizer and beverages arrived quickly. However, the table was greasy and the floor filthy, the empty sugar package in front of the stairs was soon joined by an upside down... more
average food, good location. As someone else said the staff were too interested in horsing around with each other to focus on the clients - they were pleasant but very inefficient.
Worth the U-turn ! We were looking for a place to eat outside on our way to Victoria back from Botany Bay and passed by this hard to see place with outside seating. We had the mussels, prawns and sausage appetizer and Tsunami fries. This plus beer were excellent! Tasty, cooked right etc. Will definitely recommend it! The waiter was very helpful and even offered us a blanket if we got too cold.
We've been coming to this restaurant for years, usually after a day of fishing. On July 11th, we drive the boat right up to the dock. The new owners have outdone themselves with this fabulous menu. When I saw cheesy garlic bannock I just had to try it. It is over the top good, nothing like the bannock we made... more
We sat on the patio and enjoyed a relaxing lunch while watching the kayaks go by. I had the chicken avocado mango panni. Good mix of flavors, but would have preferred a thinner bread. They serve multiple flavors of cider. Try the Strawberry Rhubarb if you want something different.
Was there on the Deck with my Family from Victoria and took forever for service. Staff interested in talking with each other and their cell phones. Food came and the Burger was undercooked and my Fish and Chips soggy. Not much Seafood for a waterfront Restaurant!!! better Restaurants in town...too bad nice view. The management here should do something about... more
We ate here twice and both times the service was slow and the food not so great. Great view from the patio though. The waiter was wonderful and not his fault the food was slow to arrive. Despite the great view and the good friends, the restaurant was just not good. We were not greeted at the door and after 10 minutes of waiting at the table, I had to go and interrupt the chatting servers to get a menu. This restaurant was recommended to us for amazing seafood. We found the service to be poor and slow. There was very limited seafood so was not what we had hoped for.
Went here with my wife for lunch on a rainy cold Monday. Outside patio was closed, but plenty of tables inside. I had noodle bowl and wife had panini. Both were fine, if not spectacular. Service was friendly and delivery prompt. Would come here again when it is sunny.
We ate here in May 2013. The weather wasn't cooperating so the patio was closed, but we would definitely go back just for the patio. Looked like a great space, practically the same size as the inside, and overlooks a little cove. Inside was a good casual place, dinner was reasonably priced - two entrees, 1/2 litre of wine, 2... more
My wife and I wanted to try Stickleback when we noticed its patio on the cove. As noted by others, it overlooks the bay and has a nice view of the distant Olympic range. On a five-day trip to the Sooke area, we ended up eating at Stickleback twice. The food, though priced a little high, was excellent. Everything we... more
Had "the dock". Good for a group. Look at my photo. Everything was delicious! It had barbecue ribs, mussels and shrimp, jerked chicken and barbecued sausage. Really enough for 3 hungry people. Oh, forgot the awesome coleslaw.
This restaurant is located in a cove with an outdoor patio overlooking the water. The setting is superb with the snow-capped Olympics in the distance. The food is excellent with a nice variety of fresh salads and fish. We highly recommend this place as a top dining experience.
The Stickleback is a great find in Sooke. Nestled in a small cove, the outdoor deck is an awesome spot for supper. There is a great view of the Olympic mountains (20 mi away on the US side), East Sooke and Sooke Harbour. There are boats moored in the cove that add to to view.
The deck is well constructed and nicely appointed. We only just passed through the restaurant but it is nicely decorated...

Great and unique pulled pork sandwich, with salad. Pleasant relaxed ambiance, wtih good oceanfront view from patio. One of my best meals Victoria area in a 3 week stay. .
We (4 of us) had the pleasure of dining at on Friday, 16 March and arrived at 7pm. Every table was full, but we only had to wait 3-4 mins for one to become available. Our service was exceptional, not intrusive, but attentive and very cheerful/professional. Our food was some of the best we've experienced at Stickleback, all were served on warm/hot china. It's probably the best for the value in... more
