A welcoming smile, hearty platters of food, generous mugs of grog and, of course, great music. . . the tradition continues.
The food here is light and tasty and the service is good. There are usually crowds of people in this place, so be ready to scrunch in!
I went there with my husband for a meal and it was the best one I had.
Relaxed and easy restraunt atmosphere service is quick and they have a veritie of beer on tap, it is popular with university students on fri sat and sun. Gets popular after 8 or 9pm.
There are a lot of pubs in the area and if you frequent them you'll learn quickly that while pub menus can be quite similar, not all pub fare is on a par. This pub's food was great and I was pleased to learn that they charged half price for their craft beers on Friday. Enjoy and Cheers! (Great service... more
We stopped here for beer and good pub food. We were not disappointed. Service was also very good. We were too early for the live entertainment. If not for our young adult children we would not have tried this bar and would have missed a good experience.
We stopped by for lunch. Had fabulous food with drinks. Shepherd's pie, steak and ale pie and pan fried haddock were all excellent. Atmosphere was good. Staff very friendly. Would go back again.
Stopped in for a quick lunch. Pub is open to a courtyard weather permitting. The house fish chowder was great. The main courses were fine but not particularly memorable.
Looking on Yelp this place was given high marks. But it was just ok. I was not there for any music performance, just simple dinner. The food was ok, fresh, not great. My soup was a little on the cold side and the service, even though they were not busy, was not too attentive.
I must say we did have a VIP pass from the hotel we stayed at (Radisson Hotel Suites) which gave us free cover charge, advancement to the front of the line and 20% off food and drink.
Having said that if we did not have this pass we would have enjoyed the experience just as much.

Split Crow is a neighborhood establishment, a little older than some nearby places that opened up recently, and just a bit more charming for it. The food was all fresh, delicious and a bit healthier -- the "loaded garlic bread" wasn't dripping in cheese and butter like in the US, but four points with scattered pieces of bacon, a bit... more
Went to the Split Crow Pub on our first night in Halifax because we heard live music coming from inside. We had already had dinner, but split a couple of pitchers of the Split Crow Ale which was pretty cheap. Service was good, atmosphere was fun, and the music was great! When you say Split Crow Halifax normally its nothing but great things being said! Not after this may long weekend! Only if you are 19 and want to get so drunk you cant walk its a great spot for you. It was a busy Friday around 5pm when we checked out The Split Crow on Granville St. Luckily, most people were sitting outside to enjoy the cool breeze so we easily got ourselves a table for five in the elevated seating area. We usually liked visiting this pub, but after the second bad experience
here we most likely will not return. After ordering, which was speedy

in the middle of his turkey sandwich! We waited 15 mins or so for the
waitress to return and she didn`t. The drink...

Wings are good. Nothing about this place made it stand out. They didn't actually have a lot of the drafts as posted in the menu. Laughable really.
Stopped off at the Split Crow in Halifax for wings and beer before the New Year's Eve celebrations at the Grand Parade. As it was early we got a good seat and the Bartender was right at our table to take our drink order.
The Food Waitress was along in a bit and took our food order. Service was quick...

This place has been going for decades, serving as a hang out for college kids and younger professionals and their parents right in the heart of the city a few short steps from the ferry terminus, historic properties and Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design. So after a rough day at work and being a Wednesday the chocies for live music where few and far. But ran into some locals and they directed me to the Split Crow. Was surprised at the cover charge for an almost empty bar but the music sounded good so in we went.
Had a good time! Would go again.
The Split Crow has good food, great service and an ambiance that will make you feel welcome! Whether sitting inside or on the patio, the bar offers it all! The music is captivating and contributes to the experience!
I live out of town and two of my children live in Halifax. My bestie and I met the kids at the split crow for supper. We had a great meal with Poppy as our server. I wanted to adopt her. She was so sweet! After the kids left, we stayed on to enjoy the band "mid-life cris". They were... more
It's tradition that the Split Crow is the first pub to visit when we arrive in Halifax. The food is good, the beer is cold, the staff is friendly and the music is always lively.
Hi, the food was good once it came but we sat over 40 minutes before someone took our food order. There were three of us and all of our dishes were great.
Prior to traveling to Halifax I read where this establishment offers great meals at a great price. I passed there early one day and discovered that a group called Rasta Gumbo was playing later that evening. I decided to check it out for dinner and was thoroughly pleased. I had the most delicious salmon entree at a very reasonable price.... more
While the band and the atmosphere were great at the Split Crow, the service was God Awful and it was near impossible to get a drink. The bartenders and servers did not deserve any tip. I had the 2... more
Food was so so and server was pretty short with us. We went thinking it would be full of character being the oldest establishment in Halifax (so we were told) but it was just an old pub. Great food, great atmosphere at one of the oldest pubs in Canada near the Halifax waterfront. It's family friendly until 8:30 pm. Reasonable prices for food and drink. Staff is helpful and a lot of fun. Live bands later in the evening.

Cool little pub in a historic area of Halifax. It's a great place to stop in for some food, a drink & live music. Good patio for people watching as well. A favourite spot of NSCAD.

My fiancé and I decided to check this place out on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm; we were immediately off put.. The Split Crow is a great pub with great service, good food and lots of music , even on a Monday night. They provide wonderful maritime music for the weary traveler! Great food, but the seafood chowder was not as creamy as I like it, it was more like a soup.
Well worth a visit!
Had to come here to try the deep fried pepperoni and it did not disappoint. I loved the honey mustard dip too! I had a chicken wrap that was okay-not outstanding. I would come back to try something different as it seems like a cool place/nice atmosphere. We were here for lunch so it was pretty quiet.
Great Pub and close to the water . Great atmosphere and an old style pub to gather with your buds for a cold Pop. Great entertainment here as well from time to time.
The Split Crow has such a relaxed atmosphere where you can take your entire family for a great meal. THE best sweet potatoe fries in town. Between the hard wooden floors and wooden tables any visitor will fit in. Stay long enough and you will get a chance to slap your knee with incredible local talent
We went to the Split Crow in Halifax on a hot day and sat out on the sidewalk patio. At first I was a little put off by what I thought was a slight sewer smell. Anyhow, I ignored it and we ordered our meal. My husband had bangers and mash and his was OK. I had something like a... more
What a great place to spend a Saturday night! The band was great, the place was hopping and despite its business, the service was attentive and pleasant.
Drinks and local music. The evening went by quickly. It was very enjoyable.....I was surprised that there were so many people there on a week night.
This is a place for the locals. 25 years ago it was a bit brighter and busier. The last years have not been kind as it looks tired and worn. The proprietor is friendly as are the patrons. This used to be a place to spend the evening. Now a quick beer is a better choice.
The legendary Split Crow. The history of this pub is entrenched in Halifax. It has some of the best entertainment in town and good cold beer. It's nice to see the familiar faces of the staff that have been working there for many years. It's like going home for a drink.

I was there on a Sunday evening. The service was non existent. I had to almost beg to buy a pint of beer. Then they gave a rip off exchange rate of 90 cents on the US dollar. Ended up being almost a $9 pint. I got out of there after one pint.
What can I say about the Split Crow. It's been around for forever, with plenty of action most nights and a small patio out front. It serves up pub-like fare and live entertainment on a regular basis. A good place to hangout with friends over a pint.
the smell of stale beer should have turned us around. the mold that settled in the glass from taps that had not been cleaned sealed the deal. Best left for a late nite crawl when you don't care. Did not try the food.
Being on of the few micro-breweries in Halifax, their proprieter beer is very good. Unfortunately, all 4 staff were extremely unhappy, and should try to remember not to take it out on the few customers there. Management needs to find out why they are so unfriendly.
This is your standard pub, with pub food. The atmosphere is "pub" and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was friendly and prompt. They have a lot of different types of beer. They didn't seem to have a kids menu, but the were happy to make a custom pizza for my daughter.

A sunny, late spring day in Halifax (yes! no kidding) and a long walk made us hungry. Sitting outside along the pedestrian mall likely made the meal taste better. My burger was cooked properly, although the bun went soggy before I could finish. The meat had good texture, but no solid presence of flavour. Fries were not quite cooked enough.... more
good booze good pub food and good atmosphere what more can you ask of a city centre pub?
Great spot to get out and enjoy the live music scene in Halifax.
20 cent buffalo wings and $10 pitcher of beer.... nothing bad to say about that!!!
While in Halifax I spent and evening in this nice spot, that part of the trip was something to remember.
Great place for live music, finger foods and cold beer. Can get really crowded though as it is small.
Had a nice dinner here while on business in Halifax. The Split Crow was located right around the corner from my hotel. This is a good sized place, with a fair amount of outdoor seating, a smallish rectangular bar and two levels of dining. I grabbed a spot at the bar. One of the oldest pub's in Halifax, the Split Crow is famous for it's Power Hour! Although tiny, It's definitely a high energy, fun bar to go to with friends!
Being behind my hotel I went here a couple of times while on a recent trip to Halifax. Decent selection of taps and bottles, I tried John Shipply's brews (Brewed by Garrison) and a couple others. Good crowd even on a Monday night, live music and a decent band too, same one all 3 nights we stopped in but it was a bit of coincidence I think. They've got Power Hour on Saturday afternoons. For those of you that don't know what Power Hour is:
Power Hour = Really Cheap Drinks.
It gets really packed though, so you have definitely got to be there early. There's also live music as well.
Great pub food, especially the quesadillas, wings and burgers, and I really like the chicken & cheddar panini. I don't care much for the decor and seating inside, so when the weather permits, I sit out on the patio instead. They do get great local bands there, like Clam Chowder and Barnacle, so if you don't mind being crammed into tight spaces, check out the music.
This pub is excellent for partying with friends and getting wasted. Cheap drinks, tight environment, and live music. Certainly not for everyone, but I had a blast there.
The Split Crow is located on the pedestrian section of Granville Street. According to the folks there this place was the site of the original liquor license in New Scotland bequeathed on 7/17/1749. Just around the corner from O'Carroll's (see my reveiw), the Split Crow is located in the Historic Properties area on the pedestrianized Granville Street, at the sign of the two-headed ("split") crow sits this convivial martitime-themed establishment. When Halifax was founded in 1749, a tavern was opened and called the Spread Eagle. Because of the sign, a double eagle, it was nicknamed the Split Crow. Halifax has one of the best Maritime bar scene. The night life in this city is simply amazing. With the university campus so close to the downtown area, there is always something happening and tons of things to do. This is definitely one of the most happening place in town. Nice atmosphere and great drinks. The company you get is simply awesome, Halifax girls rocks.
Typical pub setting, Great maritime restaurant with quality food and friendly service. Great bar really good music
Typical pub setting, no deck, but nice outside seating in summer. Good entertainment, quality staff.
Excellent little restaurant, a great place to stop and have a bite at! I loved it, great atmosphere and awsome sirvice!
The Split Crow is a great pub. The food is usually very good. The atmosphere is comfortable and they usually have great entertainment. The service is acceptable and they have a great selection of beer. If you're in the downtown and are looking for a great place with the East Coast feel for a decent price this a good place to go.
The Split Crow is one of the better pubs in Halifax. Great service and usually great entertainment. The food is definitely above average for pub food. Excellent fries and sandwiches as well as a great selection of beer.
Definately a pub, but great atmosphere. Near the waterfront and very near the Night-life of Halifax. Food is typical of pub-fare, but you are really paying for the atmosphere here. They have no deck, but in the summer, they serve their food outside. Decent place for lunch with buddies, less suited for family.
Old and atmospheric Maritime pub that has you imagining another era with a convenient location and its own beer too.
Favorite Dish: I had an okay Halibut with mashed potatoes for CAN$9.25. The potatos were instant and fish a big dry. D had an awful piece of shark and didn't feel too well later that night. I will say that perhaps the fish suffered from lack of refrigeration during the aftermath...

The Split Crow has been open since 1979. It's a pub, clean and simple. No dance floor but that doesn't stop people from dancing wherever they stand. The Split Crow pub quite close to the waterfront in Halifax is well worth a stop. Great food and drink in a pub atmosphere with lots of downtown bustle taking place as you gaze out through the open windows!
We spent alot of time in Halifax hanging out at the Split Crowe downtown. It has two levels, a main floor and the basement. The basement has a bar, but it's pretty dark and somewhat depressing.. If you can, sit on the main floor.. There's lots of light, great beer, friendly people, and usually live music.
Dress Code: Free for all..
Their are to many good bars around the area to name them all, but the ones we spent the most time at were Peddler's Pub, Split Crows & Bearly's.
All of these bars had great bands & were packed with university students & tourists.
Dress Code: Casual wear.
The Split Crow, a popular pub with a good selection of beer and great food, has been on the go for more than a quarter of a century, though it was located at first on Walter Streets. Prices for a meal are quite reasonable. Sit outside in the warmer months and watch the people scurry by. There's live music every night of the week, and Saturday afternoon matinees with some of the best talent around.

With a history dating back to the mid-1700s, this pub has plenty of atmosphere. It was originally known as the Double Eagle, but locals quickly came to call it The Split Crow. Initially in a different location, the Split Crow still retains the welcoming spirit that it once extended to seafarers of old. Pub goers can enjoy plates heaped with fries, burgers and other pub type fare, or they can... more
