For those of us that remember this restaurant as the old Crabby Joes, the transformation is remarkable. The interior is dark but not dreary. They have beautiful designs on the wall panelling and inside the main dining room, the ceiling is full of asian style bird cages. Very unique.
As you can tell from my other reviews, I really like Thai food, and Spice Avenue didn't disappoint. Their presentation is really beautiful too. If you haven't been in, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and as always, save room for dessert!
A client wanted to meet there for lunch as of course, I said fine.
Well, the place is not very clean, the food was very greasy to the point of uneatable, and the final bill for a few drinks, noodles and main dishes were over $70.
Needless to say, I will not recommend nor go back.
Although the restaurant has been open for 5 years, I never knew about it. It is a renovated Ponderosa building (home of tough steak, no longer mooing), and is really very spacious and relaxing.
The attentiveness and knowledge of the servers is great. With a menu of Vietnamese, Thai and other cuisine, it might be expected that they cannot do...

I love the food at this thai restaurant. My one friend and I try to go there at least once a month or so! Delicious food, the service is good. Very nice.
It was actually very good, the staff was very pleasant. Not very busy on a Friday night, so it's a nice choice to get away from the crowds.
Food was great, we ordered a few different items and shared appetizers.
Will head there more often forsure
Although we didn't have time to eat in the restaurant we got take out and it was so yummy, this is a place where you get top restaurant quality but in a take out. The manager woman is very accommodating and will offer you a water or tea while you are waiting at their lovely bar. We had the Thai... more
Late night dining after being disappointed at La Spaghett brought us a five minute walk to this Asian lounge.. Sat at the bar an had some fun cocktails a nice appetizers .. Will be back.. Busy place an nice atmosphere
Stopped in the other day to get lunch. Haven't been here in a while and now I remember why. The food tastes like it was made earlier in the day or even few days ago and just reheated when I ordered. Wasn't fresh tasting. It wasn't even busy I remember it always being packed when I came and I liked... more

A real gem on the mountain in Hamilton, Ontario. We had a wide variety of dishes to choose from. We were 8 people one evening, everyone ordering their own dishes and everyone loved their choice. One of my favourites was the Pad Thai with shrimp.
I also love the decor, elegant modern with low lighting

Very tasty Vietnamese coffee with its condensed milk.
Yummy mango salad included with my lunch and a shrimp pad Thai that was tasty but not Pad Thai I have been used to. Tasty none the less. It says spicy but it was mild spicy.
The service was great and the atmosphere lounge-like.
Overall a pleasant lunch.
Hi, visited this restaurant for lunch. I've been there once before years ago, and it was great; haven't returned simply because it is not on my route. The lunch special is fantastic. Plenty of choices which include veg and meat options, do not include seafood options, sadly. I chose a tofu and eggplant dish, friend a chicken green curry. Both... more
For the price, I thought it was just right. Friendly staff. Interesting ambience. I got the Thai Tamarind Chicken and it tasted like a cross between sweet and sour chicken and a beaver tail. And that's a good thing! Satay starters were pretty yummy. Not stellar all around, but serviceable for sure.
Spice Avenue located On UpperJames Hamilton, I could say that the food was okay borderline good, my wife and dauhgter complaint about their orders.
I issues that was a big no no for us, was the fact that the ligths were dimmed a bit to much, we had a bit of a hard time reading the menu.
I've been twice now. Visited for lunch yesterday. The restaurant is beautifully done - the washrooms are even nice. The food that i have had on both my visits was tasty and delicious - Good Thai Food. And, the bill was surprisingly light. Great experience for a great price.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food. Husband loved the spicy soup available. I tried a veggie pad thai that was worth having again.
I have been to Spice numerous times for business lunches....I have to say the atmosphere is wonderful, the food is fresh and plenty....the prices are reasonable and the service is always friendly. Whenever I have a lunch meeting, I suggest Spice Avenue....I have been on one occasion for dinner and it was very chic in the evening....a great choice instead... more
Everything is perfect about this resturant, plus thet take reservations as well. We went with 6 of us and the service food quality and cleanliness was a five star
The decor is very nice and leaves you excited to try the food. The service is the next step in the meal and it will serve to further heighten your expectations. Well, you will not be disappointed because both the food and the price point exceed expectations. Who though that Upper James would be a food destination but the variety... more
this is not a fancy place and the menu isn't going to grab people who really love thai food, but it is serviceable food, well presented, and reasonably priced
This is one of our favorite restaurants when we visit Hamilton. We love the Asian fusion menu and the jazzy decor. The prices are reasonable and the service very friendly
This is a great Asian restaurant in Hamilton. There are only 2 downfalls I've found as a repeat customer: The service is c@!%!y/slow, and I find their spice level to be inconsistent. Otherwise, it's wonderful. The mood lightening and atmosphere is great, the food is always fresh but a little inconsistent as I said with the spice levels, and I... more
If the service was as good as most of the food, this would be an incredible place to dine. We often go for lunch and sometimes it is hard to get service and getting ice tea is harder still. The "fresh" rice paper rolls need to be made on the spot since the rice paper tastes more rubbery than in... more
Delicious mango salad, fairly good pad thai, very disappointing stir fry tenderloin cubes with rice. Impressively large menu and pleasant staff.
Best part: Fantastic decor, very trendy given it's location on Upper James (sort of in the middle of no where).
Given your options, I'd try Spice Avenue over the Hooters or TurtleJacks in the area.
Great food, great atmosphere.
Only complaint is the service staff could be a little more on the ball, be prepared to wait at your table for service.
Spice Avenue offers these services: restaurant, take out food, take-out food.
