Good food, good service, good price
August 09, 2014

It took us a bit of searching to find this place - started at Pedder Bay, GPS led us astray but finally after asking a couple of locals along the way found the Marina. Had to ask someone where the restaurant was - walk down the ramp and it's on your right hand side.
We were going to sit outside... more

Quirky, hard to find, delicious food
July 31, 2014

This is a hidden gem on the shore front in East Sooke, sat by the slip in a campsite. Great food, and not expensive — the calamari is worth the trip alone. Great patio, but alcohol is only served inside.

A little bite of Paradise
July 24, 2014

Keep it simple may seem the theme here, but everything comes toegether for a very pleasant, casual, and gourmet experience. The building is simple. No fancy table cloths. Alcohol is served, but only inside; not on the great patio. The views over the water are spectacular.
You order your food at the counter. We came for lunch, there was only... more

Good food with nice view
July 18, 2014

We had heard good reviews so decided to give it a try.
First off you really have to watch for the small signs along the way to find Smokin Tuna as it is easy to miss.
The menu is limited but the food was delicious and very fresh. My husband had beef wrap with chicken soup which had big chunks of... more

Worth the drive
June 23, 2014

We spent a few days in Sooke and I found this place on Tripadvisor. Don't give up, just keep following the little signs all the way through the trailer park to the waters edge. Walk in, order your food, and make your way out to the patio. The setting and views are amazing. It has to be one of the... more

Brilliant food
June 08, 2014

Beautiful drive to find this place! Signage is terrible, and we actually walked into the first house at the entrance and interrupted "Donna's 50th birthday party. Sorry Donna. The restaurant is actually at the end of a trailer park right on the water. ONce we found it... WOW... blown away by the quality of the food and service. Outstanding. Simple... more

Quirky setting and outstanding flavours
May 27, 2014

Last weekend my wife and I celebrated our anniversary in Sooke and were looking for a special place for dinner - someplace that was relaxed, quirky and served great food. (Oh, and it had to be on the water.)
In our search we came across the Smokin' Tuna and decided to give it a try.
Well, talk about "hitting it... more

Smokin' Tuna - Awesome, Funky
May 27, 2014

Smokin' Tuna was a complete surprise to us. Recommended by family members so off we went. Thoroughly enjoyed the drive out to East Sooke where Smokin' Tuna is nestled right on the harbor. We went on a Saturday night (Prime Rib Night) and we were not disappointed. Started with a calamari appetizer (very tender) and then ordered the prime rib... more

Gem on the bay
May 12, 2014

I have lived in East Sooke for 10 years and am sorry to say I have wasted a lot of time and money on other establishments. I just spent Mothers Day at "The Tuna". The tuna and the squid appys were to die for. The sausage stuffed chicken and the pork were nothing short of amazing. Our 4 year old... more

Perfect end to a hike
September 04, 2013

So my friend and I finished hiking East Sooke trail (took us 5 hrs) and wanted to finish the day with a beer. We were kind of hungry as well, and she went there before. We ordered the special (spicy panko crusted tuna) and when I debated a beer, and when I settled on a Lucky, the owner backed my... more

My wife and I attended as we had heard good things about this Restaurant. After we found it tucked away out in east Sooke. We where welcomed by a friendly waitress, who took our order and she told we could sit anywhere we wanted. My wife ordered a panini chicken dish, she ended up getting a chicken wrap which was... more

Hooked on Tuna
August 22, 2013

Summer is not complete without several visits to Smokin Tuna. Usually we order the signature dish because the panko crusted tuna is just so good, but the most recent visit gave us the opportunity to try panko crusted calamari strips served with a mild curry aoli. Only caveat, there is nothing served with the calamari and a small side salad... more

lovely views and food
August 13, 2013

Food was very tasty, fresh and was a lovely place to sit and have lunch looking out over the bay with boats and seals. However, the owner was not exactly welcoming and at one point asked (in front of us) if we had paid so that he could close up. This was at 4pm on a day when the restaurant... more

I beg to differ, another take
August 06, 2013

Fried tuna? Why does a place that is right on a dock - fantastic view and outdoor dining area - serve so little fish? And why would you hide it in breadcrumbs and fry it? That said lunch was pretty good. Our wraps were fresh, the veggies crisp and right out of the garden I suspect. Lighten up on the... more

Amazing tuna
August 04, 2013

Smoking Tuna should be called amazing tuna, because their fried tuna encrusted in panko breadcrumbs is nothing short of amazing! I stopped eating tuna years ago and made an exception last night. I may make an exception one more time before we leave East
Sooke. The other amazing thing is the view. It is as good as any
view anywhere.... more

My husband and I had dinner here. Perhaps lunch would have been a better experience. However, the dinner fell far short of a.good dining experience, let alone the price of $19 per entree. I had the carrot soup and chicken in beurre blanc. The carrot soup was fine, although no bread was served or offered . When requested, I was... more

Diamond in the rough restaurant in East Sooke, BC
July 28, 2013

You drive down to a dock past a trailer park thinking, "Really? This is where Smokin' Tuna is?"
You walk up to a kind of well-maintained smallish shack, with outdoor seating. Open the door and be greeted by a few tables inside and a funky decor. Yep, this is the right place!
The offerings are few, but the ones we... more

Great food out of way location
July 26, 2013

We traveled out to East Sooke to eat at this little café. We sat on the patio which turned out to be quite chilly in July but the owners provided us with blankets. The menu changes daily as to what the chef/owners have gathered locally. Several of our party had the pan seared tuna which they claimed was delicious. I... more

An Incredible Little Restaurant
June 15, 2013

Dinner was exceptionally delicious ... Incredibly fresh, healthy/wholesome/locally grown food, generous portions, in a beautiful spot. Without a doubt some of the best food we've had around Victoria, and anywhere. Really enjoyed everything about it, including meeting the owners and staff... and it's situated on one of the most beautiful spots on Vancouver Island. This place is a true hidden... more

Total hidden gem. Worth the trip to East Sooke
March 26, 2013

Wow, what can I say? This place is a total gem. Located next to a marina, the views from the deck are wonderful. Overlooking Beecher Bay and East Sooke Park.
It's a cozy, rustic, vibe to it, but don't let that change your mind. The young owners are on their game. You must not miss the Tuna dish. I do... more

Worth the awkward drive! Best ice cream sandwiches. My kids love this place
January 08, 2013

Unbeatable ice cream sandwiches to go, handmade, well-priced. Staff is very nice, offered to feed the seals for us! I come for an icecream sandwich whenever I head over to Aylard Farm with the kids.

This restaurant is a hidden, albeit rustic, gem situated outside the south gate of East Sooke Pk. close to the Aylard Park entrance. July 15, 2011

This little place is open seasonally at the foot of a boat ramp in East Sooke BC. Definitely out of the way. Three or four entrees are prepared each evening Thursday through Sunday and they are all excellent and absolutely fresh. They also have some lunch service.
