We ordered takeout. Spicy tuna was disgusting and slimy in texture. I guess it was not fresh. The other rolls were a bit better but all of them fell apart. All in all a bad experience.
I use to go here a lot, but then I started to notice that the one server had very poor hygiene, and this got me sick to my stomach.
We ordered our usual, gyoza, California roll, chicken teriyaki, and Miso soup.
Our server brought our miso soup out right away, but he had his thump in the soup when he dropped it off. That disturbed me and I refused to consume thumb soup.
Then when looking...

I went there today because my friend recommended. I felt so disappointed. I ordered 3 dishes for myself. Spicy tuna roll was so salty and disgusting. I only ate one piece and I could not eat it anymore. Prawn tempura was ok. Nigiri is eatable but tuna was not fresh at all. Service was ok. Overall, I paid 22 dollars and I think all the food is not worth it. I won't go back again because there... more
Good prices and large portions make this my go to sushi place as I'm a fairly big eater. Can't go wrong with a teriyaki and roll combo for $8.95.
There is better sushi around but for value for money I havn't found a place that beats this.
I go to a lot of Japanese restaurants, and Samurai has consistently been my #1 for almost 2 years and counting! If I'm Downtown during dinnertime or lunchtime, you'll most likely find me at Samurai.
The food is excellent. They offer a whole variety of authentic Japanese cuisine, some of which I rarely find at any other Japanese restaurant. For sashimi fans, they have a variety of sashimi for...

A little hole in the wall but the portions are huge and the prices are super reasonable. You nearly need to cut the sashimi pieces in half to eat them. The food comes out quick too. Would recommend to any super hungry sushi lovers
Huge portions, decently priced. Been eating here for years and rarely disappointed. They now offer brown rice which tastes great with certain rolls. Totally recommend if you can handle their portion sizes.
My boyfriend and I were craving sushi one night while out downtown & decided to try some place new. We decided to find something on Davie that night, and checked to see what google had to recommend.. Sure enough, this place seemed to be a win among past customers. And to be honest, I really wanted to like this place.. But was none the less, very disappointed!!
The seating arrangement of this...

Everyone i know recommended this place.
Ordered California roll, seaweed salad and spicy salmon sashimi. Seaweed salad was ok. That was sadly the best part of the whole order. My California was mushy and tasteless. Threw it out. Normally I'm all over the salmon sashimi. I order it as often as possible but this time around it was a big mistake. Salmon was greyish in colour and cut awkwardly....

Samurai on Davie St has always been one of our favorites at least once a week.. The past few visits have been okay but something seems to be missing or changing. Tonight however was it for me. My partner ordered the mixed plate that had a large portion of raw tuna but the tuna was dry around the edges, turning yellow at the ends a kind of a pale greyish colour. I could tell by my partners first... more
Huge rolls..good service..atmosphere..and pretty cheap
I recommend the Takoyaki..which is really tasty..especially with a pint of Sapporo
Udon is really good, too
I love Tonkatsu..but here it can be a little dry..
Super cheap sushi and food! Service is also very good, my green tea was always kept full! We could not believe how reasonable and cheap the prices were! Such a bargain! We went here twice in our week vacation!
Phew talk about huge portions with good prices. This place was full when I visited with my friends. It was Saturday night around 8pm so definitely understandable. Food was tasty and the service was good even though my friends had to run out and put more money for the parking meter. So we waited for them for about 15 minutes after food came out and they didn't give us a hard time about it.
I'm...

Loved this place when I went a month ago delicious sushi and friendly staff, was a great find during my visit to Vancouver
I like this place a lot. Every time I go there I get their tuna and salmon sashimi which comes in nice, American-sized chunks. It's delicious and fair-priced.
The wait staff is mediocre and the hot food is alright but this is the place to come for some nice sushi.
BEST JAPANESE FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! The food was incredible, the bill was reasonable, and the service was great.
During my vacation in Vancouver, I had dinner at Samurai with a large group, Everyone loved their experience. The place was very busy, yet we received our food quickly. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and patient with us. As a vegetarian, I appreciated the variety of...

I wish I could give samurai 4 stars but I find my experience there to be very uneven. Some days the service is quick, the portions are large, the fish is fresh and I leave completely satisfied. Other days the service takes ages even though they are empty and the sushi is below average. It's frustrating that it is hit or miss.
I like that they are open late and the people who work there are...

Time for an update!
The lunch and dinner box/combo prices have gone up (approx. $1.00) since last year, but I still drop in now and then for a meal.
The sushi rolls remain the largest in town! I quite enjoy the way everything is served. The sashimi comes in nice, thick slices. As I've mentioned, the sushi rolls are easily double the size of regular sushi rolls elsewhere. The ingredients used...

Loved this place. The food was really good, especially their maki's and sushi. The tempura was OK, and their teriyaki chicken was pretty tasty. It's very good price and fast and friendly service. If you are not THAT hungry order maki or sushi, the combo meals are good, but too much food I wasn't able to finish! (not a bad thing). The service was amazing, the servers were super friendly!
Not good at all. I was recommended this place from my hotel front desk since we were visiting from out of town. sushi roll is nothing more than a large ball of rice and a very small piece of fish and i mean very small.
If you work or live in the area, the place is great for a quick bite. Good prices and large portions. The salmon bento box was good.
The food here is above average but not great. Service was excellent.
yum yum yum. my favourite sushi place. always fresh. huge rolls. fast take out service.
This place is usually packed and I can understand why! You get a lot of food for the price and their are a lot of food options. What I like about it the most is how many different food combinations there are... I'd be surprised if someone didn't find a combination that they like. I went for the sushi and teriyaki combo, which came with a roll, chicken teriyaki, vegetables, rice, and miso soup.... more
Boring, tasteless and oversized. Too much rice. With the selection of amazing sushi this city has, I've really no idea how anyone could rate this place 5 stars. It tastes like the pre-made stuff from Safeway. :(
I thoroughly enjoy turning their food into poo. Trust me, they give you a LOT of food to do this.
Awesome sushi on Davie with great prices.
Service can be hit or miss sometimes, but overall, it's one of the best sushi joints on Davie.
Just a heads up, this place definitely gets the lunch dinner rush, so if you're heading there around peak times, you might have to wait in line.
The portions here are very generous! Which is awesome! The sushi is good, not the absolute best but definitely the best bang for your buck! The service is pretty good; my tea was filled up several times during my meal here! I have gone back several times now and am a regular. I am a big fan of Samurai sushi!
No.....just no. Awful service, terrible rolls, I left hungry because I couldn't physically eat my rolls and I left angry because our server was so ridiculously rude.
When I'm in town this is the place I go for sushi! The cuts of fish are huge especially for sashimi. All the hot items are freshly made to order. Its super affordable and its a better value than any AYCE in Vancity. The service is excellent! It is simply one of the best sushi joints period - not just Vancouver but any place I've been. Chicken Karrage is excellent as is the the tempura but my... more
The price is very reasonable for the portion and the quality. When it's busy, the wait isn't too bad. Great eat out all year round. I order their Salmon and Tuna Sashimi everytime I go.
A good lunch spot. Portions were huge and the price was very reasonable.
great deal on sushi, although the rolls consist of a LOT of rice. STill, it's a great place to try a bunch of different rolls without rolling out your bank account
yes this place is very affordable
the the size of the meals are huge
taste is good to ok but worth the money for sure
highly recommend this place for those on a budget
If you want huge cheap rolls and nigiri sushi go here. If you want quality tasty sushi don't go here...especially with so many tasty sushi joints in Vancouver. I've never tried the hot food so no comment. My recommendation is to head across the stream to Kadoya.
My sushi place when I go to work - one order of whatever sushi roll can fill anyone up so be warned! My favorite things to order are: salmon and tuna sashimi, house roll, and gomae (hit and miss sometimes the sauce but generally good). The rice bowls are quite nice too, especially on rainy days and need a reason to go back to work days... more
My absolute favourite sushi place in Vancouver! Portions are huge and you definitely get the bang for your buck here. I haven't had anything I didn't like here.
Try not going during peak times to avoid a wait, could be said about any place but just saying.
On a rainy fall night after having watched a movie at Scotia Theatre we ventured out to Davie street in search of comfort food. Walking by this place looked packed so decided to give it a try.
The decor is just like your typical Sushi joint anywhere in Vancouver so we figured the food must be good to draw that many people on such a miserable night.
The service was fast and good, they have a...

the way of the sushi
This was my first meal out after moving to Vancouver. I took a necessary lunch break with my sister last weekend and she brought me here.
Now, don't we west coasters know that at baseline, sushi in Vancouver is good. It's fresh and it's affordable. Samurai is no different. I would say it's like they say - best bang for your buck.
It's an easy drop-in restaurant that...

Holy enormous slices of sashimi, Batman!
Ok I'm sorry about that one, but for some reason that comment has been replaying in my head for the past few days. Seriously, it's almost two weeks later and that sashimi is still giving me taste flashbacks. It was sliced huge and thick, and boy did it taste delicious (I think I've made that pretty obvious). On our way out, I witnessed the...

its a good bang for your buck!
Samurai sushi has large portions and reasonable prices.
The sushi quality overall is quiet good aswell. Its pretty tasty and they have quiet the variety in sushi to expand your choices of what you could try!
over all I was impressed with Samurai sushi, def worth trying out!
Samurai Japanese Resturant was a place that I decided to dine at on my last night in the city. I didn't want to travel a long distance since I wanted to stay near my hotel and was craving sashimi.
I was seated quickly and scanned through the menu for sashimi and sushi until I saw my weakness.......tonkatsu. The food that I would eat on my last day on earth was served here. I am a tonkatsu snob...

When it comes to healthy food you can't argue with Sushi. One of my favorite places to go when I get the sushi craves is Samuria Japanese resturent on davie street.
Always fresh!! Delicious salmon sashimi! Friendly service!
I recommend them.
Yes the portions are big. No the quality is not suspect. Yes the service is rushed. No it isn't the cleanest place in town. Yes it is good value. No I do not own a Samurai t-Shirt. Yes I will go there again. No I do not think that the sushi bars mentioned in other reviews are better. Yes the staff are Japanese.
That may be a tad generous but for its longevity in this ultra-competitive market, what the hay.
Good prices, good portions, just not so sure if it really ranks against the Sushi Town, Sushi Garden, etc.
At least i can trust this name in this hood. It's quite the rush-rush ambience here, these workers quite impressive.
One thing I do consistently order is their tamago! Truly is one of the...

Yay for massive sushi with tons of sashimi for under $4!
OK, so if you're into delicately-served high-end haute cuisine sushi this probably won't be your cup of sake, but this place is bona-fide delicious no matter what I order and cheap as chips. My big faves are the crunchy tuna roll or the vancouver roll. MMMM.
Staff are awesome despite being seriously overworked due to the popularity of...

Every time I am in Vancouver or I am driving through, I ALWAYS stop to eat here.
The sushi here is very fresh and they serve enormous pieces. I always order sashimi and one piece takes me three bites to eat. The rolls are also very big and delicious. The house roll is literally the size on my palm.
The place itself is very small and there is almost always a wait. Service is fast. The prices...

I've been going to Samurai for something like 15 years. It was on point then and it's on point now. Generous fresh rolls and good service. My personal faves are the Crunchy Roll, Dynamite and Agadashi Tofu [spicy version is great.]
