If you are looking to quench your hunger pangs in an enjoyable lively atmosphere, where the food and service SHINE, I invite you to step into this locale!
I heard that Reuben's was a place I had to go to for Smoked Meat.
I had high expectations but was disappointed. The smoked meat sandwiches were not as delicious as i expected them to be.
I found out the next day that Reuben's is more known for their steak and that they don't make their own smoked meats. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.
But if you are looking for smoked meat...

Wow, the people that work here are SO nice. I came in with my young daughter and everyone was so warm and welcoming to her. Everyone was so focused on providing great service and we were so happy to chat with the servers. Such a great experience.
We ordered the smoked meat plate and it was huge and absolutely delicious....

I had the "small" sandwich, fries, slaw, pickle, and drink for $9.95 and it was delicious as well as more than I could eat in one sitting. The staff is very friendly and the service is very fast. I will definitely be back if/when I return to Montreal.
We had smoked meat for the first time and really liked it! The portions are huge and the choices are many. Very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good value for money. Inside it is very basic but clean and good atmosphere.
We ate at Reubens in Montreal recently and it was a lovely all around experience. We were starving- jet lag from London-- and so went in at 11:30 to have lunch. The staff here were the friendliest and the service was great. We were stunned at the portion sizes, (HUGE) I have to admit. But we really enjoyed ourselves and... plus
If you are in town and you did not visit this restaurant you surely missed out on a good meal!! We had the Reubens spaghetti and we enjoyed it until the last bite! As desert we had the strawberry home made cheesecake and it was magic.. So if you are in town this is the place to eat!
Easy to get to. Take the metro to Eaton Centre (McGill) and exit on St Catherine street. It's just a block away. I had the smoked turkey sandwich. Huge portion and delicious. The coleslaw was yummy and you get lots of fries. They are cut very thin so if you like a thick cut they may not be for you.... plus
I had an early appointment at the Royal Victoria hospital so we arrived in towm earlier then we thought becaise there was no traffic.

Recommended for smoked meat sandwiches so we went to check them out. The regular size sandwich was very large and the meat was very tasty. The fries were good. It was very filling and delicious. The wait staff was very attentive. Would recommend this restaurant
Maybe it's me .... we went last evening 19:00, place 3/4 full .... Server (female) was not happy to be there (we have all been there ... don't like the job...the hours are bad ..... Then JUST LEAVE THE JOB) ....

This Steak House did not disappoint for one minute. What would a visit to Montréal be without trying a famous Montréal smoked meat sandwich! With some many good restaurants to choose from, we picked one within walking distance of our hotel. It is a must stop for my wife and I every time we visit Montreal. We usually go there after a Habs game and service is great, food is totally awesome and there is never enough room for dessert!! ENJOY..
We came at 11am for a Saturday brunch. 6 kids, 6 adults. Service was fantastic, lots of patience for the kids. Food was great as well.
Will come back!
Didn't feel like making the trek to Schwartz's (or standing in line!) so we stopped in here for dinner. It was a good decision. The food was delicious. The fries were meh, but that's not what we came for. Smoked meat sandwiches stacked high. The Reuben sandwich was delicious. Service was also excellent!
The hotel staff recommended this as an affordable place to eat (which was hard to find in Montreal--unless you want fast food). The food was really good and the service was very good.
Other cities claim the honour, but Montreal does the best smoked meat sandwich. So we stopped in to Reuben's for ours. Forget that it contains more than your daily allowance of fat, and probably your weekly allowance of sodium. This sandwich hits your vacation's requirement of satisfaction, and knocks it right out of the park.
Classic deli ambiance too. Outstanding!
If you want a sandwich or a light lunch don't come here. If you want a sandwich that will change your life step right in. We had their famous smoked meat sandwich and had juice and mustard dripping off our elbows and mouths as wide as they would go. The club sandwich was big enough to feed the whole club... plus
a visit to Montreal would not be complete without trying some smoked meat! We're there for breakfast, on vacations. First, it took like 10-15 minutes just to have coffee or to come to our table to serve us. After, I ordered my eggs turned and cooked medium. I had the tuna melt which was packed with veggies and served on a toasted bun. Delicious! Homemade cheesecake for dessert. The poutine was the best I have ever had with perfect ratios of meat, gravy, and cheese curds.
I ate hear last week with my daughter and her friend. We each had a Reuben Sandwich, so there's not a lot of food to review. I was slightly disappointed because the rye bread was buttered and toasted, I'm used to just plain rye bread. It wasn't bad, though, just different from what I expected. We went by and were hungry. It didn't look very appealing but the reviews were fine so down we went.

Based on reviews, we wanted to visit Reuben's to see if it lived up to the great comments and it did. Good, traditional Canadian deli food. Generous portions. Service was good and friendly. Pricing was fair. Cool underground location.
Saw other reviews on site so came upon Reuben's and decided to give it a go.
I was not disappointed, plentiful, good value and helpful staff.
My husband and I each had the simple 2 egg breakfast, one day with potatoes one day with sliced tomatoes - both surprisingly delicious. Nothing about the meal was mailed in. $15 for the two of us including coffee.
If you like frozen fries, then this is the place for you!!! I had the Reuben poutine. Tastes ok, but not very hot, and cheese was not melted at all. Gravy is good though.
We often go to the Reuben's Deli at street level and really like it so decided to try its' original namesake. Sadly we were disappointed, this ranks as my least favourite meal I've had in Montreal. I had the Santa Fe salad which looked huge but was just an enormous plate of iceberg lettuce, hardly any dressing, bland and boring.... plus
Loved this restaurant for the delicious food and the very friendly waiter. Nice decor inside also. You get a huge amount of food so if you have a large appetite this is the place to go!
Reuben sandwich is awesome, but I came to a conclusion that I like Shwartz's a bit more (doesn't mean that Reuben's wasn't super-tasty). But Reuben's room is much nicer and comfier. Some folks in my group went for $20 Entrecote dinner, which is more food and of better quality than a person deserves for $20. Cheesecake is awesome, but onion... plus
We've stopped in to Reubens on both recent trips to Montreal and haven't been disappointed yet. HUGE portions - you could comfortably split their Club sandwich platter between 2 and still have trouble finishing dessert ! Great St. Catherines Street location, good food and service, pleasant surroundings, reasonable pricing for this great old establishment. It's just a sure thing !... plus
Had lunch at this well known restaurant and had their signature Reuben sandwich. It was very tasty and delicious but not good for the waistline I'm sure. Service was prompt and friendly.
We were in town for a conference and got tickets for a conference - afterwards we felt like supper and found Reuben's on a nearby street.
Seating was delayed as the hostess was seating somebody else but when we had been seated the waiter that served us was always nearby, attentive and also charming.
Serving sizes are suited for dinner....

Traditionally this restaurant was a diner like establishment serving up smoked meat sandwiches. It's widened its menu and probably a few waistlines as well with its decadent desserts and lots of main dinner options. Good service and close to the action in downtown Montreal.
This was my first Montreal smoked meat sandwich, and I think its just not the type of meat I get excited about.
I'm a pork guy and this just seemed like a lot of meat for not a lot of satisfaction. A credit to the fact that it was a giant pile of food including a mountain of french fries and even a bowl of coleslaw with a 1/4 of a sliced pickle atop it.

A party of 5 returned to Reuben's on our recent trip to Montreal. The quality was good and the portions were generous.

This is a neat place and you definitely get a lot of food for the amount that you pay for. It is really spacious but the lighting is really dim... Great location. Great quality and selection of food. Good prices. Good service. If you're looking for a nice place to go that is still casual and in the heart of downtown, try this! They have any item you are loooking for. The desserts are delicious! Smoked meat and coleslaw YUMMM!
The smoked meat was delicious, so was the cheesecake, and food came very fast for dinner time . Service was good too !
We had breakfast at this restaurant on the last day of a 2 day trip to Montreal. The restaurant is located on St Catherine’s street right in the middle of the main downtown shopping area of Montreal. Visited Reuben's late on a Saturday night following a hockey game at the Bell Centre. We were quickly seated, drinks ordered and not long after that our main order was taken. This is something that can't be missed...the smoked meat sandwich is a legend and it is worth taking the time to indulge yourself. Can't think of a better place to get an original Montreal smoked meat sandwich! I had the namesake sandwich and LOVED it. Everyone loved their food, but the hit of the table was the chop-chop poutine! Classic poutine piled with smoked brisket. Gone in seconds!
No late breakfasts at either restaurant. The smoked meat and roast beef sandwiches are much better at Dunn's on Metcalf next to the Dominion Sq. Tavern. Nice atmosphere. Unpretentious.
A must visit on my trips to Montreal. I always have pizzaghetti a true Montreal staple, and a deli sandwich.
My friend had a deli club.
Dessert was a mile high carrot cake.
Fantastic value and interesting atmosphere in their subterranean setting.
I travel a lot for work and it is very hard to find healthy and yummy food on the road. I ordered a Santa fe salad at Reuben's for take out. I already know what you are thinking, who goes to a deli to order salad? While I waited I was asked twice if I wanted anything to drink which... plus
Amazing eggs and toast with home fries. Wife got pancakes and fruit. A nice change after 2 days of crepes and pizza. My go to breakfast stop in Montreal.
Was recommended by a local to eat here and was not disappointed. The portions were huge! The smoked meat was piled on the poutine. Finally if you have room or not get the strawberry cheesecake. We did, to go, and it was amazing!
Great breakfast, except the potatos, which have some weird spices. Stick to salt & pepper, you guys... Fair prices. Some eye candy too.
The only place for Montreal smoked meat in town. We hit this place as soon as we land. We love it.
Generous portions, feed is very good. We had the Reuben, and fries with gravy. The Reuben was moist and flavorful! This is a must stop if you are walking on St. Catherine's Road.
Best poutine ever!! Everything was so amazing, I wanted to cry while eating. You get the absolute best quality AND quantity for the price. I had Reubens club sandwich and I could only eat half of it. The size was massive. Despite eating so much, I didn't feel sick afterwards. Very nice and attentive staff, too. Recommended if you want to have something fresh and decent for a change.
If you want a tourist's smoked meat sandwich this is the place to go. Nothing too fancy, reminiscent of a NY diner with decent service. Had the super combo sandwich with a slice of Swiss cheese (not sure when two slices of cheese started costing $1.29) but well worth it. All in all a place to hit up if you want to partake in a Montreal food must but don't go in thinking you be light on the... plus
A disappointment. There were good points but they were out-weighed by the bad points. For the price, the fries were sub-standard. The burgers are fresh made but over cooked to the point of crispy. Also the bun was stale. The smoked meat sandwiches were nothing special. Neither bad nor especially good. The lentil soup was good. The beer selection was small and mostly domestic. The coffee smelled... plus
While not the best Montreal smoked meat I have ever eaten, it was very close! Reuben's contains a traditional delicatessen atmosphere, complete with booths, a small bar and plenty of deli meats all over the establishment. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, but the food was brilliant. Great fries, great meat, great pickles! Everything I ingested was good that evening, try out Reuben's when... plus
well if you feel like the "north american" fare, smoked meat, I guess this place is o.k.
But I know much better places on St-Catherine's a bit further west. This restaurant is dark and dated, our waitress quite rough and as I said, the food o.k.- no frills.....
I won't go back... (no beer on tap...)
0 stars! Chicken salad with mustard dressing BARFF. Cheese sticks the sauce to dip was gross. The smoked meat was nasty. Do ur selves a favor everyone is lying when they say it's good stay far far away. Go to the other Reuben's ! Not the one that goes down stairs! Terrible terrible !!! Puke nasty! Terrible
To my unrefined palette, Montreal smoked meat tastes a lot like corned beef. They aren't stingy with it - the sandwiches are packed with meat. The chicken sandwich was a bit dry and unflavored. Cole slaw was vinegar based.
Great staff and servers, open kitchen, handsome cooks.
Super Smoked Meat Sandwich.
Succulent, juicy, and full of meat! I almost wish there had been a littttttle bit more bread and mustard maybe....Portions were HUGE! I only ate half my sandwich, took the rest with me.
Club sandwich was amazing as well!
Service was decent.
We were recommended this place by a tour guide as the husband wanted to try the smoked meat but regret taking his advice. Yes the sandwiches were huge but that doesn't negate the fact that they were incredibly dry and plain. Also, while I understand the fact that Montreal is in the midst of an English/French language battle, our waitress clearly despised us for not speaking French and we... plus
This slightly over priced deli serves enormous platters and sandwiches of smoked meats in classic Montreal fashion. Desserts are huge. Avoid around Habs games if you want to eat in a prompt fashion.
Much like its sister restaurant which is above ground - Rubens offers great food and service. This Rubens reminds me of the late 80's/Early 90's in terms of decor but prices are less dear than the other location. Portions are not as generous and the meat that I had was almost as good as the other location. Judging by the lack of reviews, this location does not deserve to be treated as the red... plus
We had to try it and b'y Jesus this was the best sandwich I've ever had. The only problem is I will never be satisfied with any other smoked meat. The bar was raised. First stop next time in Montreal.
I was so disappointed with this restaurant. I am not sure why it got so many good reviews from other reviewers.
First off, if a restaurant has about 200 different items to chose from on their menu, you already know food is not going to be of good quality.
I decided to go for the smoke meat sandwich, as it is "their specialty". The meat was poorly seasoned, over salted, and whey over cooked.

I chose this place because the reviews on Yelp were decent and it was close to my hotel. I must say that I was overwhelmingly disappointed with this restaurant. Wow, I can't believe I still haven't finished my Montreal reviews. Reuben's makes a great breakfast. I had eggs with potatoes and fruit and it came with toast. Old school diner. Amazing potatoe skins. Good portions.
Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich was what I was after since I was in Montreal. Recommendations from the hotel staff were Schwartz or Reuben's. I chose Reuben's cause it was closer to the hotel. Sandwich was delicious, nothing spectacular about it though. All in all was happy with the meal, and the service was excellent.
it's pretty much a diner with their own deli on the premises.
the smoked meat (think somewhere between pastrami and corned beef) was great, and probably the best part of my breakfast. hot and tender, it mixed well with the scrambled eggs, crispy home fries, and toast. coffee was pretty good too. big, filling portions, and this whole thing costs just around 6 bucks (with coffee/tea included)!

We went in for breakfast specifically so I could try a Montreal bagel. Wanting to go all out, I got one with lox, cream cheese, and the works for $16.00. I could've done without the mountain of lettuce (see pic), but the tomato and capers were nice. Just be careful with the cofffee--our cafe au lait had a bit of a "tang" owing to their having used sour milk! (Tip: give it a smell, first!)
Dinner entrees were very god and well priced. Service was pleasant and efficient. Also went there for breakfast and the items and prices were very good. I recommend you try it.
I love their lasagna, there's cheese everywhere, very meaty and tasty.
First time I've been to the deli and not Reuben's on peel/st Catherine. Very disappointing, the sandwiches were nowhere near as good as their sister restaurant, everything was bland and presentation lacked as well as service. I would not suggest this restaurant.
I LOVE Montreal smoked meat, so when I finally got to Montreal I had to try the top 2; Schwartz's and Reuben's. When I get smoked meat (I think another poster pointed out that it's not smoked; it's brined; semantics; I don't care but maybe this should be clarified) I don't like lean meat it has to be medium because the taste is in the fat. You are already ingesting a ton of calories, what's a... plus

Decent place for lunch.
Huge obscenely large portions, big enough to share. Prices are reasonable considering the enormous portion.
French dip sandwich was $13. Skip this, roast beef was very dry.

This is my go to place for Smoked Meat as I really like their Reuben Special Sandwich. I actually prefer it over the perennial favorite Schwartz. I wish I could write a full review of Reuben's, unfortunately I can't comment on the food as I was never seated. I can, however, comment on the service.

Reuben is located on St. Catherine's amidst all the shopping and fun. Food was really good. I do not recall what it was called but it was a baguette with smoked meat and Dijon mustard. It was delicious. A friend had the French onion soup and it was average but nothing special about it.
The price was decent for the quality of food we had. I would go again for the smoked meat when I visit Montreal.
Had the Sauerkraut smoke meat sandwich and it was so yummy. THe combo was so perfect. The sandwich was huge, could not finish it by myself.
Good food, nice for a quick lunch or an informal dinner with a friend...the waitress was a bit b@!%hy...not good for seniors citizens since they have to walk downstairs and then climb back . I will go back if I have no other choice.
huge portions though - need to share is a must unless you are extremely hungry. great location on saint catherine street near all of the shops
I'm still dreaming about their Smoked meat sandwich. Their service sucked but the food was freakn amazing!
First of all, there are two restaurants named Reuben's on Sainte-Catherine. This one is across the street from Place Montreal Trust and you have to descend a flight of stairs to get to the dining area. The dinning room is dark, the booths are cramped and narrow. this place was ok.
I was in town for work and a friend suggested this place saying their smoked meat sandwiches were really good and this place was well known in Montreal.
so I went and ordered some smoked ham on a hero and it wasn't bad but it was nothing special. if you wanna stop by just because it's reubens, hey great! if you miss it? no big deal.
Really good smoked meat sandwich.
Here's my dilemma when it comes to delis...
the sandwiches are made with a ridiculous amount of meat. seriously, who eats like that? so, i always have to take some out just so i can wrap my mouth around it. but then i have a pile of useless sandwich meat begging to be eaten.

Went for breakfast and was pleasantly suprised by the large portions and reasonable prices. Standard fare of eggs and homefries delivered hot and tasty. Try the local smoked meat. Like a Denny's in the US and that's not meant in a bad way. After a long weekend of expensive and average meals this was a welcome change.
i sometimes prefer going to reubens over scwartz's - no long lines here, comfortable booths, and a lot of the times i prefer the smoked meat here - over that of schwartz's. the last few times i've been back to montreal i've noticed schwartz's smoked meat was a little dry. i think schwartz's might be a little overrated. reubens is a good deli on it's own and it's in a great location.
This place was OK. I have no real complaints, but it was sort of middle of the road. We came here the day I moved all my junk into the new apartment and we were completely tired of walking.
