Meh- fully expected a 5 star experience...it was interesting....the majority the 'courses' (small plates) WERE good, but I do believe people are getting caught up in the local, artisanal hype of this restaurant and maybe feel like they HAVE to think it's fabulous and if not than it's an indication that you just don't know food? Love the ambition of the place, esp. here in Nova Scotia, but am... more
It sounds like there's two experiences to be had here. One at the shop and one at the restaurant.
I can only speak to the shop, and I speak well of it. Their selection of fine cheeses, cured meats, and housemade pâté is probably unmatched in Halifax.
The employee there knew her stuff, and helped curate a selection of items for my party.
The quality and selection of items is of highest...

I am unable to comment on the food or the table at Ratinaud's restaurant (The Kitchen Table) service as we never made it into the restaurant.
Our visits to the chaucuterie at the front of Ratinaud have been a delight. Excellent food, great counter service. And so we have always wanted to try the restaurant in the back.
My family is coming to Halifax from across Canada for the holidays and...

This is the most exceptional dining experience I have ever had. My partner and I have been here a handful of times and each time we have been surprised all over again with how absolutely exquisite chef Joe's creations have been. If the Michelin Guide ever comes to Canada, I would confidently wager that The Kitchen Table will easily earn a star.
Ratinaud raises the bar in just about every category for restauranteurs in NS. The best service by far, the highest skill level, and the highest quality product in NS. I would be surprised if you can find a better shop of this style anywhere else in Canada. This is one of those places in NS you can recommend to a tourist without hesitation.
The sausages are to die for!
This charcuturie has such an amazing assortment of wonderful delicacies I don't know where to begin. Most of their products (excepting cheeses, fine vinegars and olive oil) are hand made on location. They have a breathtaking assortment of fine pates; cured meats, duck, goose and salmon; breads; rilette; cheeses from the Maritimes, Quebec and Europe; sausages; chutneys and jams...the list goes... more
I suppose if you are willing to put up with terrible service (4 people behind the counter, only one of them serving customers in whatever order he feels like) and mocking snobbery (the server unabashedly laughed at me for asking what, to him, was a dumb question), then the goods in the deli may very well be worthwhile. They are certainly unique in Halifax. But there are enough little... more
The kitchen table is an absolute revelation. Frederic and his team are doing something never before done in this city. They have created an experience that is delicious, adventurous and exciting all at once. My partner and I had been to The Kitchen Table in Ratinaud's previous space. We had heard a great deal of hype and the entire evening far exceeded our high expectations. Needless to say we... more
The Kitchen Table and its delicious menu is a must try for your taste buds! We arrived shortly after 7PM on Saturday and after some minor confusion as to seating arrangements (a party of 8 were seated at the beautifully crafted 12 person table and wished to remain there, leaving 4 seats to share at the table and 8 at the bar), the staff quickly accommodated us by making more space at the bar... more
I fully expected an experience worthy of five stars when I arranged for eight of us to dine here last night. And the unique food, the fabulous design of the new space, and the servers who didn't miss a beat, would have made it so. Unfortunately, an awkward run-in with the chef coloured the whole experience for us...
Upon paying our deposit over the phone last September, I mentioned the seating...
