Wanted to surprise my husband on his birthday and we were both disappointed. No one at the bag drop. Had to search around to find some one in the pro shop. Tee boxes were in great shape, but the rest of the course, including layout was just average for the area. Way too much advertising on the gps. Overall, we... more
I've Played here several times a year since they opened, more so in the last 3 years when weather has meant water/conditions at the course isn't an issue. It's a great layout with lots of fun shots and challenging putts. It's not a layout like Jack's Manele Bay course, and ya, I paid $120 today on a long wknd Monday,... more
We took advantage of a free round of golf for charity. The cart was not free which we knew would be the case but cost $42 (much higher than other courses we go to) and the GPS was not on for the round. Cart had to stay on the path so we found we were walking almost as much as... more
I've played this course 2 or 3 times per year for the past few years. It is one of the best public courses in the Edmonton area. Great design & lay-out, challenging without being too hard and this year the conditions have been fabulous. The golf staff are very competent, friendly & professional. Beautiful clubhouse with a great deck for... more
I've played this course three times (once per year). The previous two were terrible due to no water at the course. This year it FINALLY played as they always intended. Greens were great, fairways are lush green. Rates are more than fair, fantastic driving range and staff were great! ONLY warning is BRING LOTS OF BUG SPRAY. Not the coarses... more
THE course was very long however our group had lot of men in it which they enjoy the challenge of the course.
very well kept golfing club.
nice for visiting and taking important guests.
mayor mandel on the course?
The course is in very good shape for early conditions. It is a more expensive course than alternative venues but the after 2PM rate is affordable and comparable to others that charge more for less (Think Coloniale). I was dissappointed by the service in the pro shop and in the food and beverage area of the club house. These two... more
As two avid golfers, we were suckered in by the thought of playing a Jack Nicholas designed course. At $100 green fee, you would expect a superb layout and GOOD, if not GREAT conditions. While the greens were in decent shape, the fairways were NOT. The grass is spotted with dirt and we played "winter rules".The carts did NOT have... more
I golf at Northern Bear a few times a year through my ladies golf league - Golfaround - where we play the majority of Edmonton courses throughout the year. The course condition has improved drastically from previous years. For a number of years Northern Bear was not able to secure water rights, and combined with the low rainfall in the... more
I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews on this site.. but now I have to wonder if these people played the same course. The one near Edmonton, at Sherwood Park, AB, right???
The course layout was world class - I wouldn't expect any less from a Nicklaus Signature course.
The course condition was superb - tee boxes, fairway...

We played here inAugust and we were expected good conditions. The courses dead, green with no grass, fairways that are dirt - it is a disgrace and hard to believe that Nicklaus would put his name o this disaster!
Not worth it even if they paid you to play, instead go play in the local gravel pit.
We decided to play a few places in Edmonton and were looking forward to playing at Northern Bear. It was a huge let down! Greens were dead and fairways barely had grass on them. Not sure how they could charge full rates for a course in this condition!
I would have rated this lower but the staff was very friendly...

I've golfed here twice, the year it opened & Sept. of this year. While I'm very impressed with the layout of the course it is not what you'd expect as being advertised with Jack Nicklaus's name on it.
The bottom line is this place needs water. There's nothing they can do about it since all the water hazards where they...

Great golf course. Excellent hole designs. Great service from all staff. A definite recommend to all golfers. Escellent club hose and food facilities. Looking forward to retruning for another round.
I had an opportunity to check out the course after Mother's Day Brunch on May 11, 2003. Spectacular! While the courses official opening date is not until May 30 (because of last year's drought, they are giving the course some extra time to root), it certainly could be playable right now with mid-summer conditions. The greens are pure, fairways mint... more
Edmonton has been longing for a course like Northern Bear.Designed by argueably the greatest golfer of all time, Northern Bear is only Jack Nicklaus' second signature golf course in Canada. It is simply the best layout in Alberta, quite possibly Canada.Northern Bear is a world class facility which houses a phenomenal practice facility and an amazing clubhouse. Everyone should go out... more
