First time here, but had heard it was good. Perfectly done eggs, nice fresh bread and a spot on Americano fresh brewed coffee. Service quick and friendly. Great value.. top notch breakfast!!
Great little restaurant. Fantastic breads. Very organic. Ask the owner and she can wax philosophic about how most places are killing flour. :-)
Great hot chocolate and coffee. Very friendly staff. Plenty of room. We didn't get dessert pastries but wanted to.
There are actually several excellent spots to eat in this six block area of Olde Town Nanaimo, a downtown core that has been totally re-gentrified, re-thought and re-purposed as a safe, tiny cosmopolitan oasis....a wonderful refuge from Nanaimo's brightly lit, predictably boring chain-store malls. Badly in need of a satisfying coffee and light lunch, we discovered we had made a... more
We love going to to this place for breakfast. They cook and bake everything from scratch right there where you can see it. Their cappichinos are excellent and the croissants incredible. My favorite is their pecan triangles. Take some home for sure. They have a small breakfast menu. And I'm sure lunch but we just go for breakfast.
Great food.
Great service.
Good value (not expensive).
Nice environment with a smile always at the ready by the owner and servers.
The service was excellent as was the food. Their fresh-baked croissants and breads were superb, as were the lunch sandwiches and the chicken pot pie that was worth a return visit for a second lunch. My only disappointment was the Napoleon, which had tough pastry, though the filling was excellent.
While wandering around from the cruise ship on a day was rainy and foggy, we could smell fresh baked goods and followed our noses and found Mon Petit Choux. Upon entering we were challenged with what to order because everything looked and smelled so good. We were told by a friend that we had to try a Nanaimo bar. When... more
As to the rest of Mon Petit Choux I cannot attest, however, the Nanaimo bar here is in the running for the best. The chocolate was delicious, atop a wonderful cream center. The grain at the bottom made into a delectable bed. All of this made for one of the best (I am still on a journey) Nanaimo bars in... more
We have eaten lunch at Mon Petit during previous trips to Nanaimo and again today we had an excellent lunch.
An acquaintance on Gabriola Island recommended this place and its Tomato Tarte made with puff pastry and asiago cheese (about $7.50) served with lightly dressed salad greens. It was excellent! Also tried the interesting Carrot Ginger Soup ($2.50/cup) and an Americano which were both very well done. Interesting menu and customers ranged from old men reading the newspaper to young... more
There is now a good reason for me to breakfast in Downtown Nanaimo. I had an absolutely delicious breakfast plate. I don't often order scrambled eggs out because I am normally disappointed, but the topping of smoked salmon, whipped cream cheese and capers sounded interesting, so I thought what the heck. I was not disappointed. They were beautifully cooked, moist... more
A fantastic spot for coffee and a treat with friends or a light lunch. Lovely pastries and breads. Bright airy space and attentive staff
I have eaten all my life, never loved French cuisine So when I started the Nanaimo bar trail I was apprehensive about this one.
It was light and airy with serious taste and contrast. it was everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. Best Nanaimo bar in a Town called Nanaimo
Simple fresh food fast with a fresh French flair. My favourite meal is the scrambled eggs with creme fraiche & lox, hashbrowns, fresh fruit, and a piece of baguette. And a caramel latte.
We traveled to Nanaimo, BC in search of a highly rated breakfast place that looked like a dump. So we opted for this place. What a surprise. Food is always freshly made and from the best ingredients. The bakery goods are to die for. price was very reasonable and we loved it so much that we returned the next day... more
Had a fabulous lunch, their own bread, and the treats are not to be missed so arrive hungry. Great place for a working lunch.
I stopped into Mon Petit Choux while visiting Nanaimo for a coffee and, of course, a Nanaimo Bar. The coffee was great and the Nanaimo Bar was the best that we had during our visit. While we did not try every place on the Nanaimo Bar Trail, we did visit quite a few and sampled each of the top ranked... more
Honestly these guys make the best focaccia bread around. It's authentic. None of this thick white bread with dried rosemary. It's thin, chewy, loaded with olive oil and a fine fleur de sel. It's amazing. They also keep stock up throughout the day, unlike most bakeries that have the motto of "once it's gone, it's gone". So you can drop... more
A Special place, seving wonderful home made soups, freshly made bread, made on site, great coffee's and pastries
If you are looking for a tasty sandwich, bowl of soup or pastry for lunch, this is definitely a great place to stop. My husband and I shared a delicious turkey sandwich with a cappuccino to wash it down. On a nice day, you have the option to sit out on their sidewalk patio. I would definitely go back and... more
we met our niece and her baby here for lunch the other day. we had a delicious bowl of roasted veggie soup and shared a tuna sandwich, all good. busy as always, even at the early hour of 11:00. all ages. big windows to let the light in. on a busy street. there is an outdoor patio for the warmer... more
this restaurant in old downtown Nanaimo can always be relied on for good food, great service and an ambience that provides warmth and good feelings. The food offered provides something for every palatte and desire and the coffee is consistent. A variety of seating gives options for a short "cuppa" or a long conversation with friends. The owner/operator is more... more
Everything is made fresh and to order. the bakery supplies the restaurant so you know it is FRESH. the smells from the kitchen are so enticing you want to order everything on the menu.
I simply love the fact that when I'm having a rough morning I can come here and they take care of me. With an atmosphere that is unimaginably un-Nanaimo Mon Petite Choux transports the best of Western Europe within walking distance of the harbor front. Every trip down town should at least have a coffee here, and really whoever is... more
We chose this spot for a light lunch by recommendation of a colleague. My girlfriends and I arrived and seated ourselves as no one paid any attention to us. But it would appear that "seat yourself" was the intended outcome anyway.
We sat and waited, finally a young blonde woman came by showing complete disinterest in us and obviously how...

Stopped in after a walk along the waterfront, looking for a latte and some patries. Was surprised with the luke warm lattes. Ham and cheese croissant was burnt but their version of pizza was delicious. Bill came to over $40 with 2 lattees, 2 lunch items, a hot chocolate and 3 desserts.
My husband and I went there oct 2011 because I lOVE treats and thought it would be nice . The staff after walking by like 7 times told us we could sit down, no menus were given. When finally I went up to ask for one the counter staff looked at me like I was a moron and some girl... more
This is my favourite Nanaimo coffee shop / bakery / quick lunch or breakfast spot. The cappuccino is on par with anything in Vancouver; the sandwiches are always fresh and delicious - the Nicoise being my favourite. The breakfast options are great; the quiche so reliable. There is really nothing on the menu I don't like or haven't tried. The... more
Can't go wrong with breakfast, lunch or just coffee in this little Nanaimo gem. I heart independent business and this one gets everything right from the staff, service and quality of food and coffee. Thanks for raising the bar and quality casual in Nanaimo.
I get the roast beef sandwich every time I go ! ! You have to find your own seat and when it's busy things and service seem chaotic. But the servers are very nice and polite You have to walk up to the till to pay.
Not your run of the mill coffee/lunch spot. Lovely sandwiches, unusual soupsl Service can be disorganized at times, but the food is great!
Attractive cafe, but with only average baked goods and food. A bit higher priced than warranted in my opinion. A decent place for a cup of coffee, but not a top choice otherwise.
My eggs were perfectly scrambled--silky soft and tasty. The baguette that accompanied them had the texture and taste of homemade bread. There was a very nice berry compote to spoon on the bread. Yes, it was a very tasty breakfast. I do wish I'd taken a few of the baked goods with me for sampling later on, but was traveling... more
To What a joke, the word choux is not an error, but the plural of chou, which usually means, literally, cauliflower, but is also used as an endearment. In the context of this restaurant, though, it obviously alludes as well to the less common meaning of chou, a kind of pastry. So there's a bit of punning going on here... more
i went with a friend to eat at mon petit chou after seeing that it was said to be "a little corner of france ' . i was extremely dissapointed . there is nothing french about it.
even the name has a error in it ,there is no x in chou. there was nothing french , not the decoration ,...

A tad over priced and not the greatest service. If I order a ham sandwich and I get 3 small triangles of food. I end up leaving the restaurant hungry.
Superb French countryside fare with hearty soups and breads in addition to exquisite pasteries and decadent coffee drinks. Electic chairs and petite tables are quaint but slightly uncomfortable. Busy at lunch weekdays and weekends.
Stopped in for a quick breakfast. Had a tomato feta tart, croissant with house jam and split a chocolatine to finish up. The latte and americano were just as delicious as the food. I think we will go there again before we head out tomorrow am
Excellent sandwiches and quiche with soup and salad, bread baked on premises and wonderful owner, Linda, who always greets you with a smile. The portions are more than adequate for a healthy lunch. If you judge cuisine by its size, got to MacDonalds and ask for the super size. Then tell me how it's better than what you get at... more
We had a lovely time at this cute bakery downtown. Nicely decorated terrace !
Menu is limited...setting is great...always bustling. Butter is rock hard every time. Service is ok.
For the best coffee and espresso in Nanaimo, Mon Petit Choux is your first choice. Other features you will enjoy are the patio overlooking the Library plaza, and the pastries and breads made onsite fresh daily. Moreover, the convenient downtown location on Commercial Street is surrounded by several interesting stores. A good place for a light lunch and a latte,... more
Overated with baguettes that shred your mouth and service disorganised
Mon Petiti Choux produces wonderful breads, cinnamon buns and
croissants that are as good as any thing you will find outside
Paris. All the food is organic--For lunch try the daily soup or
the tomato tart and one of the decadent pastries
Came here for a quick bite to eat after getting off the ferry before the 2+ hour drive to Ucluelet.
We ordered a latte and mocha. They were good, but not great. It could have been a smidge hotter, the coffee stronger, and the mocha could have had a stronger chocolate taste.
Food wise, we ordered the roasted chicken on...

For great coffee, unique breakfasts or a quick lunch. A favorite of mine during the work day or for a special breakfast on the weekend. My kids love their "epi" bread and cakes. A downtown conversation spot.
This is one of my favorite bakeries, and what luck it's in downtown Nanaimo, so close to the Coast Hotel and Downtown Convention Centre. Delicious desserts and French-inspired baking, and tasty coffees and lattes too! A gem.
I frequent here for lunch. I love their Roast Beef Sandwich and they have a great turkey one as well. The setting is very casual but friendly. Their daily soup specials are usually wonderful as well.
I wish that I could enjoy more at this bakery but I have to limit my wheat intake. Still I love the not wheat options.
You get what you pay for here, and though the prices seem a bit on the high side, the quality is excellent and the breads are fantastic, you can tell their baking is made with love .
