tried twice - nice patio but food is barely edible

I love middle eastern food. This city has a vast selection of excellent places for middle eastern cuisine. Few have a nicer patio. Unfortunately, the food at Momo's is well below mediocre. While the lentil soup was pretty good, the hummus was very bland, the chicken was far too fatty, and even the pita and zatar was disappointing. (How does one mess up zatar and pita?) I really wanted to like this charming, neighbourhood joint; I even went back after a disappointing first visit. In the future, I will walk the extra block to Bloor - where one can find a range of excellent middle eastern options.

My favourite 'anytime' dining spot!

I love the laidback atmosphere, the amazing value, and the great staff! Whether you're meeting friends for dinner, or having a quick lunch by yourself, it's a great choice. And the wine is actually reasonablly priced! Hard to come by these days!

Thanks!

Great services and delicious food.
At least once a month I come here to relax and enjoy the food.

MoMo's is a casual, sub-level restaurant at the corner of Harbord and Robert which cooks up simple but tasty Middle Eastern food.

- The food is nothing special, you can buy the same food or at much lower price in the same area. My waitress refused accept my coupon because simply she could not process because she did not have access to interenet and she was afraid of calling her manager (it's 10PM on Friday night).

amazingly delicious. Their kifta is a MUST have. Their lentil soup is to die for! Must try their home made pita as well and their goodies in the bakery are amazing and made fresh by the owner himself. Definitely in My top 5 fav spots in Toronto!

I often do not write bad reviews but I feel compelled to do so in this case. On a Saturday afternoon, I waited an hour to be served a salad and an additional half hour for a burger. An hour and half to be served in total ...hmmm.. It was not a packed house nor did we even have to be waited to be seated. Maybe ten people in total on the terrace. The waitress was kind but the service was totally... more

I ate here for a weekday dinner, and had a shwarma plate. The meat was good - none of the pieces of inedible fat and gristle that other shwarma places often include - but there wasn't very much of it for the $15 price. The salad dressing tasted like it was just lemon juice, without oil, vinegar, spices, or any other ingredients. The pita (I think it was baked on-site that day) was delicious,... more

- Last Tuesday, me and my friend ordered a Falafel plate it was the most mouth watering experience we have ever had at a restaurant, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for anyone who would like to try middle eastern food.

Read the review of the Lebanese expat below "absolute travesty" --He is right. The food is mediocre at best. I ate there last night. My friend had a lamb curry and hated it. I had kafta and it was mediocre. The lentil soup was very good and the waitress brought me some excellent rice at no charge. But this restaurant's survival is testament to the lack of taste of pretentious Torontonians.

- The food looks good, but it's not really what you would expect. The service was weird. We ordered appetizer's but never got them. The waitress forgot to place the order. How does that happen when you write down our order, I'll never know but somehow, she missed it.The grilled chicken breast was dry, so be warned. Just cause it reads well on paper, doesn't make it a good dish. Hummus was... more

Being a Lebanese expatriate, having had grown up in the middle east eating this food all my life, I have to say that I was extremely excited when I found out about Momo's. Unfortunately, that's where the positivity of this review ends! To cut directly to the chase, if you are looking for delicious, authentic middle eastern cuisine, this is NOT the place to go. Their kafta is dry, bland, lacking... more

The food here is excellent and very reasonably priced. I ordered the rack of lamb, and it was so well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I also ordered the spinach pie, which was fresh and moist, as well as a side of grilled shrimp. Everything was so well cooked. I wanted to try this place with the $10 Groupon coupon so my friend called to order the Seafood Platter before going there. He was told it'd be $20.28. When he came back he realized $15.95 plus tax was $18.02. He called the place and the girl said they did not have time to adjust price on website but they,d tell everyone the new price. So disappointing. We were looking forward to spinach pie somewhere in our 'hood...I have to say everything was sub par:- tomato salad was not fresh; veggies were tired and soggy- flat bread tasted like it had been sitting at the back of a spice store for way too long -- took all night to get the horrible taste out of my mouth- olives had a funny aftertaste- red wine was warm (ew)- spinach pie... more

This was just about the worst middle east food I've had. I ordered a chicken shwarma. The chicken was third rate leftover bits of meat, fried two or three times. The salad accompanying the dish was done in some kind of oil that was definitely not appropriate for salad, certainly not olive oil. The olives in the main dish and the appetizer tasted like a can. The appetizer of fava beans also... more

I like this place.  Great patio. Good food.  The inside is kind of blah, but the staff is friendly, and I always have a good time here.  I recommend the vegetarian combination plate or the spinach pie plate.  Warning, it's a TON of food.  The plates often start off with a lentil soup, then you get a huge salad plus whatever you ordered, so go here hungry.  One thing is that I'm pretty sure... more

We had the fattoush salad to start - it was not bad, the crisp pita chips is a nice addition. I had the rack of lamb and my boyfriend had the beef shish kebab. My rack of lamb has good flavour but it is too thinly cut (like a starved lamb) and the meat is not as juicy as I would like. However the accompanying sides including the lentil soup, tabouleh, hummus and the lentil rice rounds out the... more

I had lunch here today: a bowl of lentil soup & a tomato salad. Both were good, but very simple.  The lentil soup was pureed and mildly spiced, with a lemon wedge on the side.  The salad consisted of chopped tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, and onion, with 2 black olives.  Nice light lunch, but there is no reason  a small and simple lunch like this should come to $13 with tax and tip. ... more

Came in to Momo's because... well, to tell you the truth, I was a bit tipsy following an open bar at an early evening cocktail event, and I needed something to fill up my stomach before continuing on with my night's activities (lest I be falling down drunk before 9pm like some sort of amateur). Omg I had the best shawarma at momo's and in the summer it's the nicest patio in the city of Toronto, I have not yet seen a patio in Toronto that is as nice as momo's . What makes it soo beautiful is the grape vines over the whole patio and the smell of the fresh mint from the garden. It's one of those restaurants once you eat there, you will good back . Ps. The service was excellent

Momos would be 3 star except every place with a kick-a@s patio gets +1 from me just because I love patios. My enjoyment of Momo's goes back many years. As with many guests, the comfortable location in the U of T campus location gives it a friendly, campusy feel. Mostly you'll see students, professors, and alumni.Fare-wise, the dishes are usually good, but not stellar. Avoid the shawarma and go for more "full meat" (lamb, chicken breast) or vegetarian options. The quality of the extras like salads,... more

It's not hard to find Middle Eastern food in the UofT area, yet for some reason I'd always come back to Momo's.  It's closer to the campus than Ghazale, much more authentic than Pita Pit, and a nice enough place to go with a group.I always got the hummus - whether I'd accompany it with falafel or salad or just have it in a sandwich.  The hummus isn't the *best* I've had (okay, well, I grew up... more

Momo's is a great neighborhood destination for a quick lunch or fuss-free dinner. The lentil soup is definitely something to "write home about" and the momo burger is succulent and carefully flavored. It's nice to relax on the Momo's patio with a glass of wine on a warm evening.

I love to dine, and try new things. My biggest pet peeves is when my business is not appreciated. Most of Momo’s returning clientele are local University of Toronto students sneaking a late snack or comforting meal. From shawarma to falafel this student-frequented spot costs around $25 for two people. The licensed patio can seat up to 30.
