My real experience with Mary

My mother went to Mary's driving school 12 years ago. She enjoyed her experience, and trained with Mary all the way until she got her G licence. End of last year I needed practise for my G2, and despite what others may have told me, I trusted the positive review my mother had told me. I heard horror stories, but I learned they were all not true. I enjoyed every lesson with Mary, and there were no problems that I can think of. The in-class was informative, and the in-car lessons taught me many things that I will use for the rest of my life as a driver. For example, I was terrified to learn how to parallel and back pack as they are the most difficult things to learn for a new driver. With Mary's techniques, and teaching me step by step I can proudly say that I finally was able to do it. Importantly, the techniques I learned from Mary will keep me safe on the road as a defensive driver forever. Thank you Mary for helping me to obtain my licence. With the decades of experience that Mary holds, I will strongly recommend Mary's Driving School to all of my friends and family.

Mary's Driving School Is A BIG LIE!

Mary is a bloody greedy w@!%!r who doesn't care about students at all. In class, she always went off topic and laughed for her stupid jokes. She was late for the in-car lessons and cancelled appointments without notification. One time I saw her yelling at another student on cellphone. She kept telling me that my driving school was bad and I need to more private lessons later while she was teaching me nothing !

Avoid at all costs

This was our worst business experience ever. After two days of classes we were told we owed an additional $99.00 more than the advertised price. She would not drop off or pick up at our home, but expected us to drive our daughter to the testing center or her school for in car lessons. She was unprofessional, rude and dishonest in her business practices. Think about it, if she wants more money from you all she has to do is say you don't pass and demand that you pay an additional $80.00. You want to find an honest driving school. This one has several complaints filed against them with the local Better Business Bureau. Be careful of fake reviews and go for the ones that have the facts.

Very Dishonest, You Will Regret Going Here

Check the rating on the Better Business Bureau and avoid this business. You will regret going here. Not worth the savings. The owner is mean and she will try any means necessary to get more money out of you including telling you after the course has started that the tax and cost of the workbook wasn't included in the advertised price, accusing you of missing appointments and failing you at your last lesson so you have to pay for more in car sessions to get your certificate. There are lots of reviews out there that point out these tricks that she has pulled on other clients. Appointments for in car sessions are hard to get as she is the only in car instructor for the entire company. Learning materials are outdated and she can't respond to questions for clarification. You could end up failing your in car test because her instruction is so ineffective. Look elsewhere my friend!! Notice all of the good reviews are basically done on the same day with the same spelling errors? Could it be she is doing them herself?? Her ad says she is the oldest driving school in K-W but Young Driver's has been around since the 80's, that is more than 20 years!

Mary is a wonderful driving instructor and thanks to her I’m finally driving at age 64 and passed my G2 on the first try
I’m new in Kitchener and found Mary’s Driving School online, I booked my first lesson and I really liked Mary’s teaching method. She was always on time and even some times she was five to ten minutes early, and she always made sure that I had a full two hours plus a few minutes lesson. I had never driven before in my life as I had a fear of driving and lacked the confidence in myself, my husband was no help and always discouraged me that it was too late and that I would never be able to drive. For years I had dreamed of being independent and able to drive myself wherever and whenever I wanted to go but I had a real fear of getting behind the wheel. On my first lesson with Mary she politely asked me that if I was ever to cancel a lesson to give her 48 hours’ notice so that she could put another student on my spot; which I respected fully and it is the standard requested cancellation notice in Canada. Mary had the skill to make me feel at ease at the same time she was a firm teacher and very honest with me as to what was required of me to pass the Ministry G2 test. When the time came to learn parallel parking and backing in parking ‘reverse parking’ that was the most difficult skill for me and I thought that I would never be able learn it. Mary was very patient and went through the process with me until I finally learned it. Thanks to Mary I passed my G2 driving test on the first try. I’m a very good defensive driver and every day I follow the defensive skills that Mary thought me. Thanks to Mary, I’m extremely happy now that I’m finally fully independent and no longer have to depend on my husband or anyone else to take me places.
Many thanks to Mary for her patience in teaching me how to drive, I strongly recommend her to anyone. Mary is the very best!

Mary's Driving School is excellent - don't take my word for it, ask to see the score sheets of previous students

The internet has been an incredible boon to the unfettered exchange of information globally, unfortunately like any form of free exchange of ideas; it is prone to abuse by a minority of society. In this particular case, it seems to me that 1 to 3 former students of Mary's Driving School, who have obviously failed the driving test at G1, G2, or G levels, now find it necessary to blame their woes on their teacher. I took Mary's full course going from a G1 to a G, and passed my final road test with a perfect score. And, I am not alone, the overwhelming majority of Mary's students pass in the highest percentile. Mary has the score sheets of her previous students to show those who failed (each sheet has the notes of the examiner advising why the given score was achieved) and those who passed.

Mary has the most inexpensive program in the area. And, although she provides students with ample in-class and on the road instruction, she makes it abundantly clear that each individual must study and read the materials on their own time and each student must practice driving a minimum of 50 hours or more on their own with a parent or guardian.

As for the cancellation of lessons, clearly, none of us likes to pay for cancelled lessons. However, it is a common business practice among medical services, dentists, and yes, even businesses that if you do not cancel within a reasonable time, you will be billed.

I am simply appalled by the racist and slanderous language used by the aforementioned former students not to mention the threat of violence.

Unfortunately, some individuals are simply not able to properly use the freedom afforded to them by the internet.

I will close by simply saying this, you are a consumer, so, note that you are saving a lot of money by going to Mary's Driving School, and you are being taught by someone with 30 years experience. Ask to see the results of the road tests of previous students, ask to know the details of the cancellation policy, and finally ask for a discussion on what you .are expected to do on your own time for both the classroom and road training portions of the course. Then ask others schools and compare, I know that I have been more than satisfied, and I am certain you will be as well.

There is a litany of reasons anyone could fail the testing, but not doing the work and then blaming the teacher is both intellectually as well as factually flawed.

Good luck

Ehhhh

Completed the lessons a few months ago and here is my full
experience with Mary’s Driving school.

Pros –

1.) Easy in-class work, although painfully repetitive.

2.) She’s been friendly with me.

3.) Low costs. You get what you pay for.

Cons – oh dear... let me list them.

1.) you get five “two” hour lessons. If you’re lucky. She’ll sometimes show up late,
stall writing long notes, make you read outdated notes, etc. What was supposed
to be a two hour lesson can easily become a 1.5 hour driving lesson. She makes
you sign off your time at the beginning, so if you didn’t get your two hours
you’re out of luck.

2.) VERY outdated work and video material. Be prepared to step into the late eighties,
early 90’s when you go in-class. Some of the sheets look like they were taken
from an old sunken pirate ship.

3.) stories, and gossip. Of course, anyone likes to hear stories and gossip,
but within good taste. Be prepared to hear long talks about the latest gossip
on past or current students that really should be kept private. You’ll hear
this during driving lessons, where it doesn’t teach you squat about driving. Do
not tell her anything about your private life, because she will most likely
tell someone else.

4.) She has a large ego. It’s great to have pride in yourself, but to put down
other driving schools and people is really in bad taste as a person and unprofessional
as a business.

5.) Fake online reviews by the same person. I spent one night(after I finished my course), curious on
what the reviews were for this school. I noticed the 5-star rating reviews
(which most seem to be posted in November so far) have common spelling errors,
double spacing, overuse of caps, and so on. Meaning it’s all done by the same
person. This can be checked by anyone online.

6.) She will push you to get through your driving courses as fast as possible
whether you like it or not. She’ll complain that she can’t pay her bills if you
cancel. Forgetting this is a common thing with business’ that deal with clients.
If I cancel a Dentist appointment, they’d never complain in such a poor manner.
Considering how the classroom hasn’t been updated in decades, I highly doubt
she has trouble with her bills.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this is helpful for someone wanting to find
a serious driving school. No driving school is perfect, but there may be better
choices. I went with another driving school for extra lessons to get my G2 and
I’m soooo grateful I did. It was more teaching and less wasting time.

I will repost this to other review
sites.

Jackpot! This is the one.

Was told I wouldn't never be able to drive. After fighting for approval I tried a driving school in a conveinent location. I was taught wrong and failed my test. I was directed to Mary's Driving School, and against all odds I passed on the first try. Although she told me I needed extra help i didn't mind. I knew I needed to be properly trained to pass, and I wasn't before. Mary is THE BEST!!! because she teaches from the ministry manual and CARES ABOUT YOUR SAFETY TODAY AND TOMORROW. I WOULD HIGHLY RECCOMEND MARY TO ANYONE. SHE IS A SURE THING IF YOU ARE WILLING TO BE TAUGHT! I am now the only driver in my household, and my family lives far away. I needed this more than i needed to be concerned with cost. SHE HAS MADE MY LIFE SO MUCH EASIER. I THANK GOD THAT I FOUND HER! THANKS MARY you are THE BEST.

I passed both my G2 and G exam with high marks

I came from another country while being a driver for many years. Thinking that nothing could go wrong since I know how to drive, I attempted for a full G license and failed. I was referred to Mary by a friend that had also come from another country who had to undergo the same procedure. Ms. Mary pin pointed all the things I needed to remember in order to pass the test but also improve my driving habits, while being not only a teacher but a friend! I ended up passing both the G2 and G exam on first attempt with high marks! I strongly recommend her! Thank you very much, Ms. Mary, it was a pleasure to get to know you!

Great experience

I had a great learning experience at Mary’s driving school.
Mary is reliable, hard working, dedicated and very experienced teacher. I was registered in other driving school but it was not a good experience. I joined Mary’s driving school and learnt safe driving and got my license.
I would recommend Mary’s driving school to anyone.

Do not go to this school!!!

As some folks said, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL. Mary Maglicic is a big liar. At first, she told me that the tuition was $450 but charged me $490 at the end. I got anything useful in class but just wasting time. she always goes off the topic, tells her awkward jokes, and laughs for no reason. She canceled my lessons for no reason as well. What is worse, I finished my courses and paid for it but I still could not get my certificate.

The worst driving school ever

Honestly do not go to this school and her owner Mary. Actually, Mary is very greedy. On their web site, you will find the course price is 450$. In the first day, she will require deposit of 200$. Two days later, she will tell you, you have to get a ministry booklet (a big lay) of extra 40$. So, now it's 490$. To use the car in the exam, you have to pay extra $100 plus tax (tax to use the car, can't imagine). The total price = 605$ which was in the beginning 450$. She will try to convince you that you need more lessons even after the course, of course to get more money from you. She --- intentionally --- tells lies about her self to prove how she is professional. She is very rude. She tries to convince the students that during the exam, she will help them and get nice examiner for the student and she has relationship with them (big liar). Supposedly, she was responsible to book the road test for me, and she told me that she booked me an appointment. On the test day, we (I and she) went to the test center, and the appointment was cancelled. I had to wait (3- 4 hours), just in case if any chance could happen and take the test that day. She left me alone in the test center and in the center they told me that there is no guarantee that I can take the test on that day, and if I would like to wait , it's Ok. I waited for more that 3 hours.

Honestly, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL TO SAVE YOUR SELF AND MONEY

Worst experience ever!

Stay away from her! She decides how many lessons you need to squeeze more money, because "you need to pass HER test in order to get certificate"! I still didn't get the certificate from her even though paid for it. When I told her that I'm not going to use her car for the test she changed my booked time because she knows all the information necessary to do it. I lost all my confidence with her.
I was lucky to find really professional and honest instructor -David- from Conestoga Driving school- who saved me and my ability to drive. I strongly recommend him!

Just one day before my exam and already after 18 hours of practice with Mary, I was told that price for taking her car to the driving test changed, it went up from 100 for car+ one hour lesson, tax included to 100 +tax just for a car, lesson cost additional money. And because it was just one day before exam I didn't have a choice.
Talks too much off topic, often rude. No drop off\pick up.
