We were unimpressed by the initial contact with the restaurant. The matradee/bus boy was rude and condicending. The other staff were friendly enough, but our initial meeting was very distasteful. That uptight child should be fired before any further customers are turned off of this place. The food was okay, but better the last time I went a few years ago. Overall, I'd say to pass over this... more
We ate in the Bistro portion of Le Beaujolais. I'm not sure why the restaurant is split into two sections. There weren't many people eating here the night we had dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. It was perfect after several days of traveling and eating out. Service was good and paced very well. No rush to finish courses.... more
After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we were looking forward to eating at this French restaurant. I don't think that I am a picky eater but I can't understand the positive reviews that this restaurant has garnered.
My wife had the NY strip. Looking at the picture of it in the menu, her mouth was watering! The only thing...

This was our second time dining at Le Beaujolais and everything was beyond amazing once more. Our waiter Ted was very knowledgeable and so funny, he made our dining experience just that much better. The food here is amazing! We are definitely keeping this restaurant on our list of "regular" places to done at when visiting Banff. :D
I dined at Le Beaujolais in the early 80's and decided to go back when I visited Banff recently. It is still excellent, the food, the drink, the service and the view. From making the reservation (recommended) with Albert to the superb service provided by Neal and Laurent it was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed it so much, I went... more
I have always looked forward to eating at the superb restaurant. The location on the second floor in the main street is ideal and we had a lovely table by the window overlooking the bridge. The wine menu is spectacular in the service is very good (on the Banff scale it is excellent). as soon as you arrive your met... more
We enjoyed our dinner in the Bistro and the server was very nice. Everything was carefully prepared, well presented, and quite good. Reservations in the summer are really recommended and ask for a window seat.
Overall, the food was pretty good and would go back again, but not the most amazing French meal I've had by any means. The bread was nothing special and served with cold hard butter. Our Elk was fabulous and my steak was ok - they over-cooked it a little bit. The service was one of the best during our experience... more
French restaurant in the Rockies, Valentines Day - sounds great?
I love French food, so this was one of my surprises... and apparently is a much talked about restaurant in Banff.
Sorry guys, but you missed the mark on every single thing:
No atmosphere, it feels like tables stuck in the middle of no where with no ambience whatsoever -...

We went to the bistro for breakfast about 8:30 a.m. and had the room pretty much to ourselves. I don't know if we were early or late, but the food was good enough to create a crowd. The wait staff was friendly and astute. Though he served us cold coffee, he realized it before we called him back to the... more
Had a late breakfast this am after walking 6 miles in and around Banff, part of the walk was looking for a not so busy place for breakfast! Found the perfect spot here. It was active but not maddening. Service was great and I had the most delectable French Toast ever and I consider myself a French Toast Snob. My... more
Our waiter, Laurent Beclier was outstanding. Suggested great cocktails and wine for the meal, and was a pleasure to talk to through out the night. The Elk Osso Bucco was amazing. We'll be back every time we're in Banff. Formidable !!
Excellent restaurant in a very nice setting. Food and service outstanding. Wife had the osso buco bone marrow and veal scallopine. I had the filet Bernaise and we shared profiteroles for desert. Highly recommended.
Well, it's a pleasure to find a fine dining experience in the remoter parts of Canada.
For our first course we both chose a salmon taster dish which was absoutely superb. Beautifully prepared salmon and beautifully presented. For our main courses, OH chose a rack of lamb and I went with a pepporcorn steak (New York style). These dishes were...

After trying pub food and Mexican food, we were ready for a change. Le Beaujolais was an excellent change. My husband had the caprese salad and I had scallops and prawn tail for starters. Then we had halibut and veal in a mushroom cream sauce both accompanied by wines suggested by the head waiter. They tasted wonderful. We had to... more
My friends and I went for a late lunch and we were impressed. I had the croque Madame, my friends had the Funghi Parisienne and the goat cheese salad. Our server was attentive and efficient. We did wait 30 minutes for our food to come out but it was well worth the wait. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is situated... more
Banff has an assortment of interesting restaurants, and although a number of them looked good, the idea of French cooking was really appealing so we went to Le Beaujolais in the heart of downtown Banff. Initially I was concerned because many of the reviews on this restaurant were mixed, sort of like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Still,... more
We come here once every couple of years and it is usually special. This night was a disappointment, as both my wife and I found the food ordinary instead of special. I hope it was just an off night, as it would be a shame to lose this gem.
I ordered the 6 course surprise menu and every course had delicious flavours packed into them. Was a bit pricey, but I decided to splurge a bit and was it ever worth it. The only thing was it took quite a bit of time for each course to come out so we ended up staying in the restaurant for about... more
Unfortunately when we eat at a place once, that's what you base your experience on! Was in Banff with a work conference and a group of us went to Beaujolais for dinner. Most aspects were fine, but my tenderloin was extremely overcooked. As was my colleagues who ordered the same. And a few other examples that I cannot remember from... more
French only for the name! Too bad as the menu is interesting but does not live up to it. Food is extremely average and overpriced, the roesti were awful. Don't go there.
As a Banff local I had heard many good things about Le Beaujolais so we decided to try it tonight. Our experience was very disappointing and was absolutely not up to four diamond standards. After having dined at Eden at the Rimrock the week before, we noticed an immense drop in quality of food, presentation, and especially service. I have... more
Have ate many places in Banff over the years, but before this weekend never at Le Beaujolais. I thought it might be way too pricy or stuffy, but in fact was neither. Went on a Saturday evening with my husband for a special anniversary dinner. Greeted & sat very politely, but not "stuffy" feeling at all. Request a window table,... more
As time wears on im wondering if Le Beaujolais still has it, for me at least. The staff are good, the food is fine. Here comes the "BUT"... Im not sure that on the menu feature, where the option of 6 course wine pairing is as good as the cost would reflect. Once upon at time, when i was new to wine, I thought Le Beaujolais was the cats meow. As years pass, my knowlegde of wine has grown quite... more
The restaurant is " tired" . It needs renewing in all areas. Ambience, energy and fresh good food and presentation. It was Friday night. We did the special tasting dinner and NOTHING tasted freshly made! It truly was like having left overs .We also did the wine pairings and when we asked about the wines we were reassured they were very good. When we put one of the wines in our wine app, it came... more
Once again we had a wonderful meal at the Le Beaujolais, it is one of our favourite places and continues to delight us with terrific food, check out their Chateaubriand. Also they have a great breakfast menu for the weekends. We go often and enjoy.
We dined at Le Beaujolais for dinner and were ready for an exquisite culinary experience....did not happen. Our servers were quite pleasant and efficient;however, the service level did not meet the restaurant's marketing presentation. Example: servers asked customers to move things about the table to make room for other items, servers reached across customer's seating space. I even had a... more
We had a delicious dinner here. The staff is charming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant. We enjoyed meeting the owner!
Having dined at some high end French restaurants, unfortunately Le Beaujolais doesn't quite compete. However, considering the small town of Banff I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Chef's 6 course dinner with wine pairing. I certainly enjoyed it, but I've had better in big cities. If in Banff and looking for French food, I would recommend it.
High quality ingredients with innovative fusion cuisine make for a tasty surprise and an evening filled with anticipation for each course. 6 courses in total. Good value for an evening out exploring the finer cuisine of Alberta. Ellie provided attentive, friendly and professional service. As a walk in, we greeted warmly and accomodated with a choice table. Full marks as... more
Recently held a business get away dinner at Le Beaujolais and was an excellent meal, outstanding service, in a great atmosphere. We arrived about 6:30 and enjoyed a drink to start our evening. Great food , beautiful decor, friendly and attentive staff willing to explain the menu. This is a white tablecloth style of restaurant although they do have a bistro as well.Offered to take group photos, made good recommendations and were inquiring and humourous in their manner. While Le Beaujolais bills itself as a French restaurant, the owners, Esther and Albert Moser, are both Swiss and thus my wife and I decided to try the Veal Emincé "Zurichoise" with Rösti potatoes as this particular dish is one that separates the men from the boys where Swiss cooking is concerned. In our view, the very best Veal Emincé... more
Words can not describe this restaurant when it comes to the food, wine, and service. It is an absolute must visit! Everything from the presentation (Silver Dome Service!) to the last bite was to die for. Please if your in Banff, make sure you put this restaurant on your bucket list. We will be back many more times!
Came into the restaurant last Wednesday and enjoyed a beautiful dinner with a large birthday crowd. Everyones meal tasted great and the service was fun and helpful! If your planning a special surprise or a birthday for someone I ensure you this is the place to do it! Thanks Again and well done Beaujolais Team! We will see you again!
After spending a day of shopping in

this restaurant is one of our favourite places to be, wonderful food, great service and truly lovely experience.
I am not usually prone to over dramatic reviews but am increasingly frustrated by the appalling food I am
paying for in this resort.

Two lobster bisques lacked the depth and flavour ( not to mention being lukewarm) that makes this...

This was one of the best French restaurants I have taste. The service was great and my rib eye steak was cook to the way I like it. The atmosphere was great. Would go back again.
We had the 6 course surprise meal and i have to say it was the most creative, full of flavor, and well worth the price meal I have ever experienced!! The service was top notch and a beautiful view beside the mountains. The wine selection was incredible! We recommend this restaurant for a romantic supper in Banff !!
This is my second visit to Banff and Le Beaujolais and I will be back for more! It is wonderful restaurant in a beautiful town. Were we at the same restaurant I read about in all of the other glowing reviews? Overall impressions were that the restaurant is very romantic and the service is impeccable. We've been traveling quite a bit since November and have been away from Banff for about two months, but came back last Thursday and dined at Le Beaujolais - a favourite of ours for over 30 years. This is great place to dine with excellent service and great food and wine selection. The views of the bow river are amazing as well. This place has been around for a while and they also have a great collection of pictures from days gone by .
I first went to Le Beaujolais in 1982. I went at least twice a year for the next six years while I lived in Alberta. Every visit was a gastronomic wonder. This year I went for the first time since the 1980's. It was every bit as wonderful. Albert welcomed us, we were lead to our table and Tallulah gave... more
If you're looking for the perfect balance of fine dining quality, presentation, service, and value, then Restaurant Le Beaujolais is the right choice for you when visiting Banff.

I have been going to Alberta from BC for 3 years now on business and always stop in Banff not only for the scenery of almost fake looking mountains and trying to spot 'Vanilla Ice' but also to have an excellent experience at the Beaujolais. We've dined at this restaurant since it first opened in 1981 and must say, we've never ever had a bad meal … and last night was no exception. Years ago while I was in Banff, in the Canadian Rockies, I had a very memorable dinner at Le Beaujolais restaurant. After a couple of weeks in the USA/Canada I needed some food like home and I found this restaurant while visiting Banff. This was a very nice surprise. Consistently awarded for its ambience and fine cuisine, this long-established gem is one of the area's best. As one of the ritziest restaurants in town (and the only one with a well-enforced dress code), Le Beaujolais offers the very best in fine dining. The famous "surprise dinner," which includes six pre-selected courses... more
