Kurumba Restaurant is a pretty simple place. Medium restaurant, basically clean. Spacious between tables. Polite and helpful staff. Only two persons on when I went there on a Thursday night, and therefore sometimes service was a bit slow when they were cleaning up tables. Otherwise fine, and kitchen was pretty fast considering we were a party of 7.
Although this is in Port Moody, it was...

Good spot for lunch, get the curry as the Chinese food is mediocre. Had the ginger beef with rice was 3.7/5
Great food.
I like Sri Lankan style Fried Rice and Sri Lankan style Chicken Curry. It is quite authentic and food can bit oily. I found it was at right level of spiciness to my taste buds.
Make sure to talk to restaurant owner Richard Sun. He is quite personable. I believe he personally involved in cooking aspect to keep food quality and consistency.

Great Pan-Asian food in Port Moody for Asian food other then Chinese and East Indian.
I should preface this review by saying we came in the early evening of Valentines Day without a reservation.
My partner and I were seated at 5:15, had our orders taken at 5:30, and got our food at 6:15... But all we ordered was Pad Thai and rice, yet every other table got their meal well ahead of ours. It seems incredulous that it would take 45 minutes for our orders when only 4 other tables...

This is our go to place for curry- but they have so much more! Their roti canai is amazing, so delicious. Their food is so full of flavour and spice, we have been coming here for years and there has never ever been a drop in quality. Eat in or take out Karumba's is the place to go. If you are looking for solid south east asian food- look no further!
My friend and I went to Karumba the other night for dinner as I was seriously craving me some roti canai. It was my first visit here but I had seen a few positive reviews and my friend was raving about their eggplant dish so it was a 'must try' for me.
The service was a bit slow but there were a few tables that arrived within minutes of each other so it was understandable. We ordered the roti...

Had a wonderful dinner with the family here. The appetizer platter was outstanding offering fabulous roti canai, superb calamari, crispy spicy wings and lots of other goodies. The beef rendang was hearty and spicy and nicely off-set by the nasi goreng. The Pad Thai was average but my nieces loved them. The surprise of the night was the amount of hard liquor we were given. The gin in my gin and... more
Just came back from another satisfying meal at Karumba.
I love this place and hope it never changes. Hospitable service, delicious food. They are testing the waters with a new nasi lemak dish which we did not try, since we were ordering the char hor fun again, as well as trying the Sri Lankan noodle. Both were prepared quickly, and were fresh and tasty. I love that the chef utilizes his Sri...

Awesome food and friendly service! Kotthu roti is great and have the srilankan butter chilli calamari. Hats off to the chef.
Ok! So it is time to write a review about Kurumba.
This is based on a couple of visits plus my last visit ever on Monday when both, my husband and I, actually got food poisoned.
This place has good reviews, I am not sure whether people has not been there lately or I have had really bad luck.
I am a big supporter of local businesses and unfortunately, there is no way I would go back there.

Beef Rendang was so-so, not as soft and tender as it could have been, Roti bread was fairly large portion but the dipping sauce was watery and not as thick as it should have been. Green bean dish was fairly crunchy and good spice, but here's something to watch out for.
They charge $5.00(!) for rice, and $1.50 for tea. That instantly adds $6.50 to the bill which in the end, brought our dinner...

We came to a midpoint to visit a friend that lived out near PoCo and due to her current diet she needed a place that was vegetarian friendly. I'm not the most familiar with the area so with a list to choose from of restaurants around the area we went with this place as the menu looked intriguing. We had a reservation, but on this day it wasn't that busy, the place is in a plaza, nice and... more
We have been going to Kurumba for over a year now and our dinner Friday night was just plain delicious. They offer a sort of Asian fusion menu that has elements of Thai, Chinese and Indian.
One of my favourites is the hot and sour soup but the seafood dishes and vegetarian offerings all all mouth watering.

This is the best place for what we Cantonese call Kong Foo Chow ... Slect the seafood version...some people call it Singapore style char kwea tiow. Best in this part of the world...better than Penang Cafe.
The Rendang is awesome as well.
Been here numerous times! One of my favourite places.
My favourite place to get Thai green curry or any curry for that matter. The food tastes delicious, fresh and is very reasonably priced. Stop in for their lunch menu, many plates under 8 bucks and there is a discount for take out.
I recently came here on a Friday night. We were seated and given menus. We waited for the servers to come and take our order, however no one came. They passed by us, several times without a glance in our direction. Our menus were closed and at the edge of our table--still no response. After 14 minutes, we were SO... more
Some like it "Hot". There food is very authentic and wakes up your culinary senses. Really enjoyed exploring this dining experience. Be prepared to give your taste buds a workout. Be venturesome but it's not for everyone especially those with a bland palate.
The decor is very stark and somewhat barren but the food is great!
Came here specifically due to the high ratings from Yelp and left completely disappointed! We were a party of four and ordered the following:
Appy plate for 24 bucks...came in a big plate but was short on flavor and quantity! Kinda getting a big wedding present from your Aunt only to open it up filled with paper and plastic bubble wraps protecting a set of Corning ware from the 1950s.

We dined here a couple of months ago and I also got take out from here. The prawn spring rolls are divine. The roti canai came with very spicy sauce. My wife could barely eat it even though the size of the roti was very big,
Their curries are very spicy too. I took out the Sri Lankan beef curry...

Food was delicious, prepared quickly, very attentive staff, also offers take-out. We'll be back!!
We checked out the place after reading the raving reviews here. $70 for four got us three items from the menu. The $24 appy plate was not worth the price...bland and less than generous amount! Chicken curry with bone in looked a d tasted like it has been sitting for a week as the meat was dry and the curry... more
The food here is fantastic! Everything my husband and I have tried has tasted fresh with tons of flavour. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Kurumba specializes in Asian cuisine from China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. We have been to Kurumba a few times now and each time we have come, we have tried new dishes. All have been quite delish. However, a few can be quite spicy too. Kurumba is a great place for small groups who want to experience all of the different cuisine's and share. After-all sharing is caring!

Came here for lunch with my cousin, after reading reviews I'm always looking for restaurants in the lower mainland so I added it to my bookmark.

I've only dined in once, and am definitely wanting to go back!
The food we ordered was so delicious, and huge portions. Perfect for a group so you can order many dishes and not get to full.
While we were the only people in the restaurant for a time, there was almost a constant stream of people getting take-out, which was promising.

DINNER:
Because I was such a huge fan of their lunch, I came back multiple times for dinner. Each time bringing different company. Since I don't want to be remembered as the girl who always comes here to eat alone :P

This chef is amazing! He does it all. He has a fusion of Malaysian, Thai, Chinese and puts together a diverse, affordable, fresh and delicious menu that anyone will enjoy. Also, if you like hot-spicy food his menu is king! Try the chili fish!!
Ok I have to update. I have been back many times and I swear the dishes I go back for get better each time.
The Sri Lankan FIsh has become my new favorite.
If you like all different Asian styles (Thai, Chinese. Indian) available in a single clean and quite place visit Kurumba. I'm a regular since they opened.
Delicious! That's what I told the server when she asked how our meal was. Not every restaurant knows how to season a dish. Kurumba does. The calamari was seasoned and prepared exceptionally. Our other three dishes, Bean Sprout Chop Suey on Crispy Noodles, FriedTofu with Vegetable, and Kotthu Roti, complimented each other nicely.
The portions were larger enough to share.
I would agree that...

The food was pretty good, decent portions also. The owner was super friendly and recommended us different ways to eat the things we ordered. The curries may be too spicy for some.
A hidden gem in Port Moody. Everything about this place was great! There is no reason to dock stars, so 5 it is. My husband saw a previous review and wanted to give it a try...and we're glad we did. Very reasonable prices. We spent under $40 for two people, but ordered enough for at least four.
The menu had a good mix of Thai, Malay, and Sri Lankan items. We had the Roti Canai which was huge!...

I have been coming to the this restaurant for the past two years, and each time has been a delight. The food is delicious and the service is great. Delightful Pan-Asian cuisine in this relatively new little gem in Port Moody. The chow mein is fantastic, the owners/operators very friendly, the prices reasonable, and the atmosphere has a beautiful simplicity. Definitely recommended.
