The largest and most interesting selection of children's literature in the city also has an amazing collection of puppets, games, and toys, and holds regular readings.
Okay kids, if you’re quiet, Ms. Simon will let you buy a book. The co-owner of the Fourth Avenue bookstore was once a public librarian. No doubt she has access to a wider range of newer books now—and all the staff are as passionate about matching the right bit of child lit with the right reader. A resource centre for the classics, and the newest crop of titles (including those from local... more
This is a cut store with so many kids books and study materials.
We went to this store to buy some gifts. The store staff was very helpful. She even suggested her favorite kids books.
We were able to find very nice books as gifts. Thank you so much-!
I love hanging out at Kidsbooks as much as my two daughters. It's my go-to place for kids' gifts. Their selection of books is fantastic for kids of all ages, and so are their toys! I get aggravated by shops selling useless, blinged-up toys, and happily Kidsbooks has none of those.
As a French speaker, I wish Kidsbooks had a more extensive francophone selection. It's so hard to find good French...

Great place to find books and games for kids of all ages. Highly recommended!
The staff is very knowledgeable, and can make great recommendations.
They also have an extensive French language book collection, such as Tintin books.
If you have children, Kidsbooks is a must-visit!
Lovely store for gifts, or your own kids.
Get lost in a sea of books. They have classics here and I love the selection and the fact that they keep their stock in great condition.
For as long as I remember, this store has been around (and let me tell you, I have been around since the 80s)! Bring the books back. Throw aside that iPad or tablet. Ok?
As a children's writer and as a teacher, this is my favourite place to buy children's books. The staff is helpful, enthusiastic, and friendly, and the books themselves are excellently curated, with all the timeless classics you already know and all of the up-and-coming books you'll want to know.
I'm happy they stock a healthy poetry section, and fairy tales, with great alternatives to the...

I love this store but was really annoyed when a very pushy staff member with short gray hair wanted to know who I was buying for , after telling her then saying I was happy to browse she insisted on walking around the store " what about this " "what about this " "she will love this " it went on and on and on and on...I ended up buying a book with a puppet I felt forced into buying and haven't... more
This is where I go, when I need suggestions for my own kids, or when I want to buy a special book as a gift for a friend's child. The staff are exceptional, and I've discovered a number of terrific new authors thanks to their suggestions.
The selection is terrific if you are looking for current books, and the pricing is reasonable considering the location, the advice, and the selection.

Found staff to be informative and helpful but not pushy- just the way you want it in a bookstore. Tons of selections for young girls ages 8-12. Next time I go I think I'll bring my daughter...and my credit card. The prices are competitive too! This is a must for any young family in Vancouver.
Really like this store. My son and I often go there for a quick browse. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.
They have a decent play and read area for Kids, and of course a great selection of books and toys.
They also don't mind dogs going in either, on leash of course.
I've been going here for years to buy books for nieces, nephews, neighbors and kids that I used to nanny for. Unlike Chapters that has a portioned section dedicated to kids books, this whole store is full of kids books. There are so many books of different genres that it makes it fun for parents to browse for books that they may want to read their children and encouraging for kids to pick up a... more
First off, if i'm in the area, I WILL go into this store. Regardless of if I have a gift to buy. It's just a given.
It's well laid out, has an AMAZING selection and they let you play with the unicorn puppets.
A really fun store that will induce countless nostalgic fuzzy feelings. But this past week, I was on a mission for a few pending friend babies that are due to pop any day, which as we as...

I love Kidsbooks. Books Books Books soooo fantastic.
I wish I could have spent more time in here browsing, but I was on a mission. The first staff member I spotted helped me find the "Humphrey the Hamster" books, barely blinking an eye and walking straight toward the correct...

Incredible book store for kids - full of wonderful and knowledgeable staff!
The assortment of books is incredible.. its like a candy store but with books!
I have never been unhappy with any of the recommendations from the staff!
Yeah, this place deserves its 5 stars. Incredibly thoughtful purchasing and merchandising - all-around a quality place to buy, especially for clueless aunts who don't know what kids of a certain age would be interested in! The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what they do.
I've spent a bit of time in the baby section lately, and they have quite a few great soft toys...

Bottom Line: You will find excellent recommendations for both kids and adults that are thoughtful and unique with a deep inventory to choose from. Better than a chain store because the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about helping you find just the right book. Add in the incredible events they bring...and you can't miss, whether you have children or love children's literature... more
As a parent of a small child and a teacher this is the place to get books! Yes, you may pay a little more then you would at Chapters or Amazon, but this staff knows their books! You can literally approach a staff member and ask, " do you have that book about the....?" and they will lead you directly to said book.
Their teacher resources are amazing and if they don't have something, they will...

Absolutely love this place for the variety of quality kids' books, the knowledgeable staff (which in many cases have determined whether I bought the novel or not), and of course their annual sales (my time to stock up!). I always end up reading many of my kids' picks before they get a chance to break the bindings.
My only wish is that they open one up in East Van; I'd be there every week :)
Remember the days when reading a book entailed opening up an ACTUAL book and reading it??? **GASP**
Enter Kidsbooks. If I were a young, snot-nosed kid, I'd be spending part of my weekends here, playing with their toys and curled up with a copy of the latest and greatest kids book.
I walked into the shop over the weekend, searching for something to give a 3 year old boy. I wandered around the...

What kind of sign is it when the people who work in a store love reading even more than I do? A very, *very* good one. As a person with a soft-spot for children's literature who also happens to have a few nieces, a couple 'o nephews, and a fairy godson (don't ask), I can't think of a better store to find just the right gift for the wee critters in my life.
Think it's just another bookstore?...

I love the written word and am of the opinion that reading to small children and encouraging them to read themselves is one of the greatest gifts that you can give to them. This makes Kidsbooks a no-brainer as a source for me for gifts for the little ones in my life. This also makes me only slightly more popular to these kids than the person who gifts them clothes, ya whatever!

"Mabel Murple's house was purple" "I like my red shoes, I like my red shoes, I like my red shoes, I like my red shoes." Those are just a couple of lines from recent rad books I've found through these magical doors.

My two toddlers LOVE coming to Kidsbooks on Broadway. The layout of the store is stroller-friendly. There is a great activity station with huge leather chairs where the kids can play and read while I browse. The sections are very well thought out by age range. Great selection of books for children of all ages. I liked the atmosphere, but the store is a lot smaller on the inside than it looks on the outside (I know...weird).
I suppose that many of you haven't read a kid's book in years, maybe verging on decades. You'd be surprised at some of the stuff out there- and how good it is. One author I love, Mo Williams, makes books with simple stories but the illustrations are so much fun. It's a blend of cartoony characters on top of black and white photography. Love it.
For me, a picture book lover, Kidsbooks is an...

This location has recently been renovated. Now there's even more kid's books and fun for those special short people. The day I visited looking for a gift for a youngster, there were a lot of people working in the shop. It was no problem to get some help, even though many of the staff members were busy reorganizing after the renovations.
They do book launches and host authors in the store, so...

This is THE bookstore to go to when shopping for books for children of all ages.
