We were greeted and seated quickly. The server was excellent. The drinks were brought quickly. I ordered a Caesar salad and Oscar. I would give the salad 3 stars. It would have been better with a bit more dressing. The Oscar is steak with scallops and prawns. The seafood was good but there was less of it compared to other kegs I went too. I asked for medium well. The steak was more on the blue... more
Have not had great experiences at two different kegs lately but had gift cards so off we went.Service was prompt and knowledgeable. The bread and brie appy were excellenThen the mains came.....wife had overcooked salmon and my chicken and ribs(usually get prime or steak but have not had good luck so i thought id change it up)was also over cooked. No grill... more
Returning to the keg after about 5years I ordered the sirloin steak with mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, oh so good, and veggies cooked to perfection, the caesar salad was large and very good as well. the steak was so tasty, perfectly cooked and seasoned there was not a speck left on my plate. I give my meal a 10 plus,... more
We always enjoy the Keg. Not sure why other people have had bad experiences. We never have. Most recently, we went on a Saturday night around 6 (no reservation) and were seated right away. Both our classic steak choices, including the potatoes and veggies were smokin' hot and cooked to perfection. The salad portion was huge and I love their... more
We went to the Keg in Nanaimo on Valentine’s Day, for our 25th Anniversary Dinner. We knew it would be busy, so we arrived just after the 4 pm opening, and were seated in the bar area. This seating arrangement was not ideal, but it was fine. Overall, the food was acceptable, but barely. Onion Soup was very generic, Calamari... more
Only reason I went back was because I had a gift card , this time was worse ! They once again can't seem to make a steak medium rare! Crab cakes were also very very bad smelling not good at all
The keg is a classic. The food is always good and so is the service. If you are looking for a nice meal on a great environment this is the place for you. Every time we go we all have a great time and leave happy.
It was very crowded so this could have been an off night but service was slow for the drinkers and my escargot was microwaved!! Yes..cheese burnt on outside of dish but cold portions.Steak was good (better be!) but our party of 10 was having thoughts about going back.
My husband loves steak so my sister, her husband and I took him to The Keg for his birthday. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I don't usually eat steak but decided to try one and I found my filet mignon very tasty and cooked just right. They had a decent selection of wines too. All in all we had... more
Wife phoned to make a reservation for two for eight pm Sept 21st, the person was told this was a special occasion as it was my 60th birthday and asked for a window booth on the upper level, the lady confirmed the time and date of the reservation and guaranteed everything would be ready for eight pm, on our arrival... more
The keg is always the same, which is a good thing! The service, the food and the atmosphere.
There are no surprises here it is always the same, the steak serves just as you ordered it good service, and meals that come out quickly.
A couple of pieces of advice, order appies first, then order dinner, or they come out...

The wife and I have recently moved to Alberta where we thought we would find the Alberta beef so much better. We found the best steak is in BC at the Keg. A generous portion of lobster also accompanied the near perfect meal.
The courteous server and good company saved this dining experience. The New York steak was tasteless and overdone; mixed vegetables were bland and lacked seasoning. The baked potato was returned to the kitchen as it was grey and must have sat for a few hours under warming lights.
For what this meal costs, there should be more care and flair...

Walked in off the street, not able to locate the restaurant we were really looking for. Waited on and served resonably quickly and well. But considering the average piece of meat costs over $30, I was somewhat underwhelmed, both with the size and the quality of my meal. It wasn't terrrible, just not that great.
June 24th being our 25th Anniversary was spent at The Keg. This is our 4th different Keg restaurant. 2 in Toronto, 1 in Niagara Falls and this one in Nanaimo. I must say that the Nanaimo Keg is as good as the rest. No complaints whatsoever. The wait staff were very quick and it took no longer than any other... more
A group of 8 friends all in possession of Keg Gift Card decided to go out at the same time. The restaurant is large but considering we we there at prime time Thursday night, the place was surprisingly empty.
Serving steak primarily is not brain surgery in the restaurant business. It requires quality raw product, specific cooking temperature and service....

Two of us plus a toddler. It was 6pm when we arrived. Busy, but seated right away in the lounge. That was fine. Server didn't bring cutlery or side plates, we got up and got them ourselves. Food took forever. An hour. Pretty frustrating with a toddler. We did appreciate the kids snack plate. Server was friendly and attentive without... more
Had our company dinner at the restaurant this last Christmas. Not sure the final tally for staff but would guess around 40....and we hardly made a dent in the restaurant and lounge area. This place has plenty of room for any size gathering. Standard Keg menu and good taste. Drinks are always checked and topped up before you need them.... more
I hear people talk about how much they like the Keg and after going there with a gift certificate I really wonder why its still open here. The steak was tough (New York strip loin). I have eaten alot of steak over the years and the Keg Steak was like something that was delivered from a Chinese food resteraunt at... more
The front girls looked at my family like we had the plague... Sorry but customer service like that we will never be returning.
The keg in Nanaimo was 45 minutes late when they seated us. Standing and no courtesy and honesty to tell us that they overbooked the place . Apologies for the delay in sitting us and no offer of drinks at least.
The food was over cooked and potatoes were burnt and served very late. It was a night mare

Saturday Jan12 , 2013. Reservation for 7:30. We are seated with repeated apologies of the delay at 8:10 standing waiting....waiting......almost leaving.
Place is packed with seated people waiting for their meals.
Advised that kitchen is backed up, delayed food service, and not to order Prime Rib, as all gone. It is still mid-shift.Hmm ! Specialty of the house and none...

One huge reason to go to this fairly large restaurant is for the Billy Miner pie dessert! This is an ice cream pie concoction and ends any meal at The Keg in the very best - if high calorie - way! The rest of the food is good, service is friendly, and prices are reasonable.
I was surprised to find just average food in this Keg restraunt. I have come to expect more from them over the years.
went with 9 people, all had excellent meals. The server was friendly and the drinks and over;; ex[perience was great. We would go back anytime we can. Look forward to the next time we go.
If you want to know what you are going to get, then the Keg is the perfect place. Once you are inside, you could be in almost any Keg in the country - over priced and limited selection.
The service is okay and the food is average. I find the acoustics to be bad, once the place starts to fill up the noise level increases as well. For the price of the meals I would expect to be able to talk to those I am with.
I like the Keg, staff is always attentive and friendly. The decor warm and inviting. Good wine selection and ofcourse the Prime rib is always excellent. My personal favorite. Sure do miss Kelly from kitchen his ceasar salads were the best in town, but the shrimp cocktail is hugh and is a nice alternative. Save room for thier pastries Yummy
Every time I'm at the Keg, the food is great and staff is always very attentive. I always splurg and get a steak with garlic shrimp... oh and the twice baked potato - it is just too yummy for words! Don't be intimidated by the atmosphere = it's great for couples or a family. It's a treat to get to... more
OK as I'm writing this I realize that we haven't been there in a bit and it's such a great place to go with friends. A little out of the way to locate, the room is quite large and can accommodate larger parties.
My weakness is good prime rib and boy they know how to do it! Nice side of...

The Keg has been a stand out restaurant for our family for more than 30 years. My first date was in a Keg! The Nanaimo Keg is a great property with consistently good food and super service. Stopping for just a snack or a special occasion, the Keg has it all.
Upscale for Nanaimo but no Ruth Criss or Mortons. Still good steaks cooked as ordered with friendly staff. Can't really go wrong here
The food was hot and delicious, you can't beat their steaks and baked potatoes.
Food served just warm - certainly won't go back - very disappointed and so was my friend
I reserved for 8, we arrived with 12. Not a problem. The staff went above and beyond to accomodate us.Our waitress was superb. Her taking care of us and our orders went flawlessley.I cannot say enough about the food. It was varried and not one bad review. I had the lobster tail and it was cooked to perfection. What a Great steak house!!!!
Food was "perfect" and done the way I loved it.
Will always go back there when in Nanaimo, BC
I am rich so I don't mine the overpiced food. They do make a good steak. The place is clean and the staff is keen But hey its the Keg they are all the same.
hit and miss, sometimes exceptional sometimes not very good at all.not great value.
Our dinner was great however when I opened the menu I was shocked at how high the prices were. Needless to say I won't be going back anytime soon for that reason. You can get a great steak just as good at other restaurants in nanaimo.
Not deserving of The Keg label. Over priced and under delivered. Wish they had over promised. At least the wine was good.
The food is excellent. The unlimited free bread is amazing! You don't seem to get much with your dinner (meat and a veggie) but I find myself full after. Parking is a nightmare. And I dread the bill at the end of the evening, but you do get a quality meal.
Love the Lobster during fest time also like there prime rib
staff go the extra mile for you!!!
MMMMmmmmmm, makes my mouth water thinking about their blue cheese and garlic crusted tenderloin steak that I seem to always order. I just can't consider anything else since I first tried it!
I prefer to eat at non-chain or franchise restaurants, however you really can't get a good classic (or different) steak than the one you'll get at the Keg....

We had a reservation and arrived on time. There were 4 hostesses at the door entry and we had to wait for them to finish their internal conversation to acknowledge us. Enjoyed all around. Food was good, but the really impressive part was our friendly, efficient waitress. Location and parking would not get top marks from me, but ok.
went with my girlfriend and three friends, i ordered a 16 oz beef rib steak (whatever the 16oz menu steak is)
it was decent and the seasoning was ok, and the garlic mashed potatoes were good, and it came with some semi stale onion crisps and some sauteed mushrooms.
the mushrooms had the best flavour out of everything i got...

Dined here recently, as a birthday celebration for my brother. Service was just excellent, kudos to our waitress and certainly enjoyed the meal. It was a great evening and a packed house that night.
Family dinner for my dad's birthday. We reserved a table the night prior and got exactly what we asked for. Thank you!
Service and food was great. Thank god The Keg at least includes some sides now with the entree. I stopped going years ago after having to add veggies to my meal.

The server told me the kitchen did not want to make me dinner. And she was right the plate she brought me was not edible. I don't know what ruined her day, but she was set to ruin my dinner.
Boys night out and my buddies pick the Keg. I reluctantly went and despite my best efforts had a great meal and time.
The Keg was busy. It was loud. The steak and dungeness crab special was awesome. Steak was perfect as was the crab. Wine list was fairly good. Our server put up a good humoured approach to 3...

Little pricey for the portions, but the flavour in the teriyaki steak is SO AMAZING. It is the only thing that I order when I go there and I have yet to be disappointed. Staff does a pretty good job of making your dinner enjoyable most of the time.
I ate there recently with my family which two of them are cooks in restaurants, one of them also being a self proclaimed food critic. He absolutely raved about his steak dinner finding absolutely nothing to complain about. (I think that was a first) If you're vegetarian you can still get a decent salad, baked potato (make sure they allow you to top your own tater) and nicely prepared... more
Delicious Food. I love everything on the menu. The staff is wonderful.
What can one say about the Keg other than bring on the steak and lobster. Crab cakes here are better than either of the 2 Kegs in Victoria for some reason!
If you want an over priced steak you can get any cut and for a price add every thing to you plate. It is a chain and therefor give it credit for thier consistancy.
Keg Steakhouse & Bar The offers these services: restaurant.
