Went to Kaffa just yesterday, I was starving and remembered from going a few years back that it was good food in a fun location. I ordered the Green Chili bowl, which was disgusting. Half of the bowl was crushed nacho chips, the other half was some sort of bean reheated mush which looked like it had gas station nacho cheese on top. This bowl of garbage plus a plain old earl grey tea came to... more
Went here last night & ordered the chicken burrito & the beef Jamaican patty. They used a microwave to prepare the food. Not worth the $23 I paid.
I lived in Mardaloop in the late '90's and loved coming to this place. I have only been back a few times over the years and one of those times was this week. Not Impressed. Nothing has really been done to this place, it hasn't really been renovated, I am not sure how they can justify their prices. I have always thought starbucks was way too expensive, but this is worse.
Met a friend here for coffee. Very funky and cool. Varied food menu, lots of teas and flavoured syrup for steamed milk/lattee's. And, they have almond milk (a rarity in Calgary)!Yes, was a little pricey ($5.50 for my small steamed almond milk) but not anything crazy - maybe $1 more than I'd pay elsewhere.Staff were nice and helpful.Somewhere I wouldn't go every day, just because of the price,... more
My daughter and I met for coffee this past Sunday. Cute little patio was attractive and the shop very rustic cute BUT when we decided to have breakfast - I did not know I was about to get ripped off. NO DEBIT but they take Cheques??? The ATM (I only had enough cash for coffee) charges $2.50!! WTH - is this a CASINO???THen after my daughter order - no prices - I went to pay with my newly BOUGHT... more
I stopped in at the Kaffa at lunch today to order an americano for take away. The girls were super nice and fast BUT that is not going to make up for my coffee. I ordered a double and I wanted a splash of soy in it. You better believe I got charged 50 cents for soy. (WTF?) I can understand a SOY latte having a 50 cent additional charge, but for a TBSP? Come on!?! Also what is with the cheap,... more
I too have a nostalgic soft spot for Kaffa having spent hours of my youth there back in the smoking days. When I was in high school main coffee holes were Robins Donuts, Timmy's and the like, Starbucks was barely making inroads and there were very few good never mind original coffee shops around. Kaffa seemed like the epitome of unique with the cool house the artwork and great tea. Now it's... more
I remember going to this place back in '93 and thinking that Calgary had taken the corner. A cool coffee shop that would fit in Seattle, Vancouver, or San Fran. We've lived away from Calgary for a decade only to discover that the gem Kaffa once was is losing ground. High prices, lousy coffee, lame duck staff all contribute to the decline of this place. "Cash only" sign is the death knell. My... more
Only voted "like it" out of loyalty for the coffee shop I remember from my childhood. It has been going down hill for quite some time. Please change your ways quickly Kaffa! I would hate to see you go under for such silly miss-management.
I've seen them pre-grind something like a full pound of beans at a time to get nice and stale in the hopper because they are too STUPID to figure out how to grind to order. This is no way to make espresso. Phil and Sebastian are opening across the street which will spell the death knell for this place, stuck in the 90s.
A small cup of ordinary coffee for $2.50? Are they nuts? Even Starbucks 2 blocks away is mucho cheaper which probably explains why it's also busier there. Kaffa's food prices are ridiculous and the portions are small. The food is nothing special (ie: I wouldn't drive across town for it). The Mexican "pizza" for $14.00 is nothing more than a few spicy grocery store items on a small pita bread... more
Are you kidding? 3.15 for tea? This is not Paris!
There can not be many coffee-houses in Calgary that are more comfortable than the Kaffa Coffee & Salsa House. Located in a renovated house in hip Marda Loop, this cafe is a perfect place to while away the hours over a "cup of joe." The wooden patio is especially inviting, as are the home-made soups and salsas. You can even check your e-mail on the online computer while the kids run amok in a... more
