All is delicious ... and comforting. I have only one criticism of the Back to Basics selection: Somebody forgot the... more
What Abyssinia lacks in decor, it makes up for in friendly and quick service, and delicious authentic Ethiopian food. The doro wat was the best I've had since eating it in Ethiopia, and the veggie dishes were equally tasty, with great spice and heat. The price was only $14 for a combo platter (one meat and three veg dishes).
The best part of the meal was the service. Our server was attentive and did an excellent job. The food how ever was far from even being good. Pickled beets for the beet salad not worth $10.00 I could have stayed home and opened a jar of beets. The risotto, if you can call it that was dry and undercooked at the same time. The Chef may want to rethink her use of salt, it is not supposed to be the... more
I love this place for so many reasons. I like to get a lot of my groceries from the Italian centre and so I'm here maybe twice a week. Both the grocery store and the caffe have so much character, it's a shining example of the rich and diverse culture Edmonton has to offer.
Sat down and had an Americano, and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. What nice place, and a great set of pastries/snacks. I look forward to trying the pastries next time. Shopped next door and picked up some cheeses and chocolates.
I had breakfast here for the fifth time in the last few months yesterday. They pass every time! I ordered the cheese omelette with brown toast and hash browns. The omelette was full of cheese and mushrooms, cooked to perfection. The hash browns were nice and thick, cut from fresh potatoes, and the toast was nice and crisp. This was a $7.50 breakfast and was worth every cent. Yum.
Awesome little place on the southern edge of Little Italy. The front room is a bar/cafe (pretty simple one with TV), while the actual restaurant is the inner room. The dining room is decorated like a family room (old fashioned European style) with old photographs from former Yugoslavia and knick-knacks.
This tiramisu cup was so light and airy it didn’t feel heavy eating it at all.
A recent visit to Edmonton took us to Little Italy. On arrival in the area we decided to get a light lunch and decided to try Spinelli. We were warmly treated on the sidewalk by the locals enjoying the warm afternoon! This was a perfect start to a nice snack. Once inside it was obvious that this is a very... more
Just enjoyed an amazing, flavourful lunch here--and highly recommend it! Waitress was lovely and we had 2 mango juices, lamb tibs (lamb with onion, peppers and spices) and a combo platter which included 3 veggie dishes from a number of options and beef tibs. All served on a giant platter with the super tasty traditional injera - a spongy, slightly... more
Having been born and raised in former Yugoslavia, specifically Bosnia Herzegovina, this restaurant is dear to me for the sentimental nostalgic reasons which all immigrants can relate to.
If you are in Edmonton and a fan of Ethiopian food (and/or trying delicious new things), this restaurant is a must-try. Their doro watt is amazing (which is tough to find at restaurants), along with everything else we tried (kitfo and veggie platters) and the service was outstanding. We went there twice it was so good. Absolutely going back if... more
The store is a great place for weekend people watching. Customers can be seen hovering over peppers, fresh figs... more
I live around the corner from this restaurant and I love the fact that I can walk to a great meal with great people and feel like I've travelled half way around the world to the Rift Valley in Ethiopia. The family that runs and owns the restaurant treats you like a guest in their home. I see their friends... more
I am sad I never got to go to Santos under the previous management. I have been told the food and atmosphere where awesome. Now the staff are poorly trained, the service is quite dismal and the food ok.
I always check out the clientele in ethnic restaurants to see how authentic things are. I'm usually the only caucasian in this restaurant, they don't give you utensils unless you ask (don't). they don't turn on the air conditioner (they have ceiling fans) and they burn incense when making coffee. This is the real deal. ...and the food is 11/10. Family owned and run. You can't get any better... more
This is a hidden gem with excellent prices. The staff is extremely friendly and even offer me free extra bread. The food was delicious and I can not think of any complaints. Although it does look a little beat down from the outside. Inside its perfectly comfortable and even lists vegan options.
Was expecting a lot considering the high rating which may have led to disappointment. Food was mediocre and service was poor. Only one wine choice and it was from chile(?!), seems like they would have done better to have wine from the region - all things considered. On a lighter note, the desserts were great, all homemade and fresh tasting.
Awesome food. I had pileci uvijac (chicken roll) and it was delicious, the rice was great! My boyfriend had the Serbian steak loaded with mushrooms and vegetables and he loved it. Will be going back!
Prepare for an authentic Ethiopian experience. The aroma wafting in the air is a gentle hint of what's to come. We ordered Ethiopian beer to start which was ice cold and surprising delicious! I had the vegetarian sampler and really enjoyed it. The place filled up quickly with a variety of people including many native Ethiopians (always a good sign).... more
This is your basic friendly neighbourhood hang out bar. The cevapi are excellent with the grilled bread. Get the cheese on the side. Yum!

I ordered from Sorrentino's through the dial and dine service. I ordered the "Fettucine Stephanson". (Fettuccine tossed with crumbled Italian Sausage, diced tomatoes, garlic, mushrooms, Parmigiano-Reggiano and mustard cream sauce.) There were literally 3 pieces of diced tomato, 4 mushrooms and a few pieces of an italian sausage in the whole dish. The sausage was not crumbled at all, it was...

Great, the only complaint would be some of the staff.
We're going back tonight for the fourth times... every time the food was excellent only surpass by the friendlyness of the staff.. It is not high class but a homy type of ambiance where you can hear your company talk.. and the value for your dollar is there... more
Food was quite good and the girl serving us was very friendly and helpful and efficient. Just wish there weren't so many questionable people around.
Used to love this place; had not been since the renos and decided to try it again. What a disappointment. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, my old favorite. It was gross, seriously gross. I ate maybe 5 bites and a bite of one meatball. I'm pretty sure they're sauce was prego based. Even prego is better than this. My husband was disappointed in his meal as well, but not to the same extent.... more
Our Dinner Club went to Kafana. We had 17 people there. We thought it was pretty funny that the restaurant is in the back of a pub... but once you get back there it is nice. We had very friendly service and I loved the experience in general. I had never had Serbian/Balkan/Croatian food before so it was great to get the chance to try it. The most popular items that our group had were the... more
Best pizza in edmonton including price. Freshest ingredients all for 11 bucks a pie.
Great food, very fast and fresh. Had the meatball sandwich and could finish it it was so huge! Pizza bread is amazing too and big enough for 4 to share totally.
Has BEST food From ex-yugolsavia! Reminds me food back home
Was there last week with a couple of friends. Had a couple of beer and various meals.
This place was great! The location is pretty sketchy, but the food makes up for it. Resonable prices for lots of food. Will definitely be going back.
Food was delicious! The calamari and dry ribs were unreal. And the tortellini was fantastic. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
My husband and I went there with a groupon considering the location you would assume they would have good Italian food. WRONG!!!! Worst Italian food in town, I would have been more satisfied with Chef Boyardee microwaved than this. Looks like they spent all their money on renovating instead of the menu :(
The reno's are a great improvement unfortunately they forgot to learn how to cook. I took my leftovers home and my german sherpard would not eat it
I regularly walk over to this shop with my son to get a weekend treat (me coffee and a bakery item and my son gelato). We've also ordered the sandwiches, salads and desserts, all of which are amazing. I feel very fortunate to have this gem within walking distance.
I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it left a lot to be desired. Upon entering the establishment, there is a sign on the front door stating that the staff may or may not choose to serve you and although I understand it's due to the nature of the neighbourhood, this made us question whether or not this was a safe place to dine at. The food was ok but not exceptional. The service... more
After passing this little gem dozens of time while moving, friends and I decided to check it out. Our waitress, who also happens to co-own the place, agreeably made recommendations at our request. We started with the salad, sorry can't remember the name, but it's akin to Greek only better. The feta used for this salad is truly stellar and we ended up ordering a second plate, it was that good.... more
I defy anyone to find better coffee than italian center downtown. Old style Italian coffee line up and excellent sandwiches.
I won't say that I like or dislike this place, but first impressions are mixed. The food was decently priced, and inoffensive, but definately had the air of frozen veggies and canned seafood. The service was good, but the atmosphere left somethings to be desired. Not a bad option, but could have been better.
We found out they deliver so ordered last night..had steak bites, the veal on a bun with cesar salad and lasagna... And all were absolutely delicious!!! Will definately be ordering again and trying the other items on the menu. And will definately try going to sit down in the restaurant for dinner as well.. Highly recommend by us for sure!! ;)
Amazing doesn't even begin to describe this little restaraunt. With the remarkable hospitality, home style European food not to mention the welcoming decor it's no wonder this place has a steady flow of regulars who are made to feel at home here. I don't know what to recommend as everything is so good but if your in the neighborhood on a Friday you might be lucky enough to grab a bowl of Amies... more
Love the renovations, food and service was incredible, highly recommend the calamari, can't wait to dine again.
I was amazed, seeing the changes at Santo's on 95th Street in Little Italy. The atmosphere is modern and comfortable, the food was just fantastic, and I loved the cozy atmosphere created in the new space. It's an amazing transition, and now feels upscale, yet comfortable and approachable.
What a place! I recently visited with my family, woow what an improvement. The service and food was wonderful, and the great warm welcome from the owner at the door was a great first view. The staff was amazing and i'd definitely recommend it to my friends. Can't wait to visit again!
I recently went to Lil Italy and ended up in Santo's on 95st. Expecting the same old grimy smelly spot. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!. All the way from the servers to the managment, the cooks the characters in the resturaunt/bar To say they facelift that has occured is an understatment.Great atmospher and above GREAT FOOD. And if you feel luck bet on an horse.
Used to be a family restaurant in Little Italy. Now it's just a bar and gambling pit. Yet another nail in the coffin of 95 street.
Visited this restaurant in two occasions this month and I want to return this coming weekend! I especially loved the meats, lentils, and vegetables on top of that bread and large plate. Touching the food with my hands was also nice and everybody was doing the same here. The staff is very friendly and enjoys spending time with the costumers... more
Granted, I love the food. But ehat's with the service? I swear it's getting more surly with each passing day. I can deal without a friendly, "Hi" or "How can I help?". Last time my sandwich ordered to go enjoyed a long messy drop into a box courtesy a clearly disaffected employee with a half hearted sigh and a complete disregard for any attempt at service. When i asked for soup, i waited 5... more

This place is a hidden gem and not only because of it's authentic European fare but also because of the amazing athmosphere and dedicated service. Don't be fooled by it's location and exterior look the inside is clean cozy and will make you comfy while you enjoy a fantastic meal. The daily specials are so good but the traditaional beef sausages also known as cevapis are my absolute favorite.... more
Very friendly service with great dishes that bring you back to some good quality homemade cooking, The hamburgers are massive and done proper with grilled veggies. Cevapi, beef kabobs get the small it's hard to finish the big portions but they are very tasty.

i love their italian sub with very full flavors. and their calzone is really yummy. I think it's a luxury watching out of the glass to see the relaxing community and park while enjoying my good brunch.
I can't believe this was my first time eating at sorrentino's, my sister and I went friday night in Little Italy. The outside of this restaurant does not look like the typical Sorrentino's, this looked like a 'hole in the wall' type place, but it was charming.
We loved this place. A delicious exotic aroma greets you before you even enter this wonderful hidden gem. Next you are greeted by the owner, who is friendly and knowlegable without being overbearing. Then there is the delicious food. This is not just a resturaunt it is an intimate experience where you are made to feel as if you are family. Can't wait to visit again.
I thought I seen a sign on the door saying Spinellis the last time I was here. The coffee and sandwich place nest to the grocer. So I'm going to call it Spinellis.
The lattes in the adjoining coffee shop to the italian centre are very tasty! They are usually hot, good quality and half the price of other going lattes ($2.75 for a lrge late). And if you like it a little sweeter, with some flavour- Add a splash of cocoa and about tsp and 1/2 of their raw sugar, and stir it up good. It makes for a nice treat.
Zocalo is not your average cafe. Rather than paintings of local artists or photographs that adorn the walls of typical coffee houses, Zocalo is as much of a greenhouse as it is a cafe, housing towers of colorful and fragrant flowers in charming Little Italy. All of the drinks from the espresso bar come with a piece of chocolate as an added bonus. Many of the plants and pottery are also for sale.
Italian Centre Shop Ltd offers these services: grocers, grocerie store, grocery store.
Zocalo offers these services: florist, flowers, flower shop, garden centre.
Fresh-cut flowers, indoor & garden pots & plants, decorative vases & tabletop, eclectic décor items, and genuine espresso bar
