This place has moved from the Union Street location to 432 Homer St just outside of Gastown. There isn't much to see, but if you're a Hendrix fan, still a few cool artifacts. Unfortunately, the original location was more interesting as it was his grandma's fried chicken restaurant on the edge of the now gone Hogan's Alley. Interestingly, I grew up only a few blocks away from his grandma! I gave... more

This place has good intentions at heart. It's cool that something like this exists in the city, however, it is severely over rated. It is free to do, however, donations are accepted. It is lovely and well kept but really not worth it for tourists to go out of their way to see. It does have rich history with a small room of pics and some records but nothing to write home about in theory.

It is a fun place, this place is privately owed and is basically built out of love. There are many memorabilia around. There is no entrance fee, he only take donations. It is located in Jimi's grandmother's fried chicken restaurant. Located not far from Chinatown and the train station.

If I have to pay, then I will not give it 4 stars. None the less, Jimi has his place in the Rock & Roll... more

Terrible

Vancouver city should hang it's head in shame for this ridiculous joke of a museum. If I was Jimi Hendrix I would be so p@!%!d off! with just a little investment the place could be a decent memorial to a great artist and the community where he came from. God love the poor man who was the 'curator', he probably... more

My husband and I walked through Chinatown and by a lot of potsmokers to get to Jimi's grandmother's cafe, now the Jimi Hendrix Shrine. We did not realize that it had closed two weeks before, but we were in luck: the owner was inside, breaking down the exhibits for the season. What a great guy! Not only did he invite... more

There are layers of history and love in this little place. I'll try to upload some photos and video that show that. I learned more from this shrine than I did at the EMP museum in Seattle. You'll see what a strong connection Hendrix had with Vancouver.

This is as good as it gets if you're looking for a free attraction. For some, it may look homemade, but someone really put a lot of thought into it. The copies of handwritten letters, the photos of the family and friends in Vancouver that were related to Jimi Hendrix. This is not only a shrine to Jimi Hendrix, but of his family and Vancouver's connection to him. The events in this town shaped... more

I was determined to visit this old part of city. My partner was sceptical but accompanied me. We walked from Gastown, through areas of the city that the guide books tell you to avoid. The loitering on street corners by colourful characters accompanied by the whiffs of interesting smells was a little out of my comfort zone. We held hands... more

My wife and I were on Vacation in Vancouver and I saw the Jimi Hendrix Shrine.

Basically it was a couple guys hanging outside and a shrine outside that described Jimi's relatives.

I was really disappointed.

This is little-known gem in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. They are closed for the Winter, but sometimes they have events and are open for special days, like for Jimi's birthday. If you visit I recommend you check out their facebook to see if they're doing something special: www.facebook.com/JimiHendrixShrineVan...
The Facebook page also provides the history of the Shrine and some... more

Closed During the Fall - But History Was Made Here
October 24, 2012

Went out of my way on a cold cloudy October day knowing that it wasn't open. Being in the same space where the greatest guitarist of all time lived, made the trip worth it.
RIP Jimi and thanks for all the music.

If you're a Hendrix fan this place is well worth the trip. Though it's a run down little house with a cloth mock-up of the actual Hendrix shrine in Seattle it's an interesting piece of rock n' roll history. The shrine is actually the kitchen of Jimi's grandmother's fried chicken restaurant. Inside you find the typical Hendrix images and stuff and also some family photos and very cool... more

The restaurant on this site used to belong to Nora Rose Moore Hendrix, who was Jimi Hendrix's grandmother. Jimi lived by here for a while while he was in primary school.

There's a lovely, well-kept shrine here that needs more respectful attention.

Nora was a leading light in the local black community called "Hogan's Alley" which used to be here before the viaduct went in.

Near the train... more
